Bought the extra large kong, fill it with all sorts of dog treats our lab/pitbull enjoys peanut butter, yams and dog food mix sometimes with shredded carrots and or apples. This kong is long lasting but for awhile the extra large was hard to find. Really needed the extra large for her. It keeps her busy sometimes for most of an afternoon, especially when left home alone. Helps to use up her enegry. She usually chews up her toys no matter the type in a few minutes. Yak bones only last about half hour. This has lasted for over a year so far, bought another one for our new pit bull puppy. Helps keep teeth clean. Will continue to buy kong products. Washes up nice in dishwasher. It does smell when first get it so a cycle in the dishwasher takes care of it.

I have a BIG dog-American Bully XL. Black Kongs last for years in my house. The trick to keeping the dog interested for more than a few minutes is to FREEZE the contents. I mix a tablespoon of peanut butter or Cheex Wiz in some prepared instant mashed potato, microwave it, stuff the Kong, and then freeze it. It takes the dogs at least 15 minutes (smaller dog, an hour) to finish. These are easy to clean with a baby bottle brush (try the dollar aisle at the grocery store for that) and the dishwasher. I recommend having two per dog - one in the freezer and one to play with. I prepare a container full of mix and keep it in the fridge for refills. You can also mix in other ingredients like baby carrots, green beans, chopped apple, dog biscuits, etc. for variety.

I have a 7.5 month old golden retriever. I have never met a dog who can destroy a toy in less than a day but my sweet Honey is the exception. I have purchased toys made of wood, rubber, nylon, silicone, you name it, I've tried it. With her toy basket looking slim, my husband turned to his K-9 training friend and asked what he recommended trying; without hesitation he said "KONG." My husband immediately placed the order. Since receiving the toy, my Honey, is constantly entertained. The toy can be filled with treats for reward / brain challenge, its fun to fetch and has a super bounce as it hits the ground, but most of all, it is indestructible. I have a 7 year old 70lb pit who has been destroying all toys since he was a puppy. As you can imagine, it's hard to find what he cannot destroy. This Kong comes in multiple sizes and is not truly indestructible, but it's the best one and takes him the longest to destroy. I still have to monitor him with my it when it starts getting torn up, and you can see from the pic that this one is close to needing replacing. All of the other black Kong toys do not last with him. I've tried the XL bone / ball / ring / frisbee / tire. He loves the bone and ball but I had a blockage scare with him due to eating pieces that he got off while I wasn't looking. So it's sad I can't give those to him. I think the shape and thickness of this toy are the reasons for it lasting longer. ... MoreI have a 7 year old 70lb pit who has been destroying all toys since he was a puppy. So it's sad I can't give those to him. I think the shape and thickness of this toy are the reasons for it lasting longer. One downfall is that I feel like these used to be made better as they do seem to diminish quicker than they used to and my dog is getting older, so you'd think it would be the other way around. Nonetheless, I will continue to buy this one, just wish it held up like it used to. So if you have a toy-destroyer like me, this is likely one of the best options, but still requires monitoring.
I bought a smallest kong initially for my cocker spaniel puppy (who was at the time only 10 lbs) to keep his curious and active mind. Then we quickly found out the small kong wasn't cutting it. After some researching, I decided to get him the biggest one so we could use it not only for treats but also for his meals so he would utilize the time to exercise his mind. He's now 21 lbs at 9 months old and a very curious pup who loves playing with toys and works for his treats and food. We've been stuffing the kong with dry food, wet food, peanut butter, a variety of snacks, yogurt, etc. in combination to keep feed and keep him busy and he seems to be enjoying it. He licks the stuff out of the toy first and starts rolling/tossing it around to get the rest of the kibbles ... MoreI bought a smallest kong initially for my cocker spaniel puppy (who was at the time only 10 lbs) to keep his curious and active mind. He licks the stuff out of the toy first and starts rolling/tossing it around to get the rest of the kibbles out until he gets all the goodies out of it. He's a tenatious one who will sit there and work until all is gone. He's also a big time chewer for a small pup who has destroyed a lot of other toys, and yet the kong has endured the abuse from his powerful teeth quite well. It definitely shows the wear and some teeth marks but no tear so far. The other pro is that it's dish washer safe. I toss it in the washer and comes out clean, no fuss. The only issue I had is that the packaging instruction could be better at helping people choose the right size of the toy. I bought the smallest one solely based on my pup size only to find it pretty much useless and I was stuck with it. I recommend getting to know your pup a bit better before you choose the appropriate size of this toy that best suits his/her needs. This is completely useless for my chihuahua who has absolutely zero interest in working for treats. Also, if your pup is like my cocker spaniel, consider getting a bigger size so it can be used to feed meals. I also freeze the toy with stuffing to make it more challenging and stretch out the effort level.
Bought the black Kong size large to replace my dogs torn up, dirty, red one we’d thrown out. We bought the original one in stores and I wasn’t paying attention to what size it was labeled as. So when choosing the size here I went with large cause she’s a 60lbs pittie mix and that seemed appropriate. When it arrived it was definitely smaller than the other one we had gotten rid of. Not small enough that it seems like a hazard but I wouldn’t have chosen this size if it was in stores. It’s held up well (and better than the red one) we’ve had it for 4 months and it’s just now really showing tooth marks (at the 4mo mark the red one already had small chunks missing). She’s not the Most Extreme of chewers but she’s definitely hardcore and I’m pleased with how it’s held up. ... MoreBought the black Kong size large to replace my dogs torn up, dirty, red one we’d thrown out. When I open this toy, I was first surprised thinking it was so small. I bought the large. I checked online to make sure I got the right size and I did. My girl love this thing!!! It was the perfect size for her mouth. She's about 50 lb, a shorty, an itty bitty pittie power chewer. She's had this for two or three weeks and she's not even put a dent in it. She brings it to me while I'm working from home and I put a treat or two in it and she carries it off. Cleans the treats out and brings it back again. Sometimes I spray some foam whip down in the grooves and that keeps her busy a while. This is one of the best toys I've ever bought for her. It's extremely durable. And she's using it in creative ways. She throws it and catches it she tosses it to me and she uses it ... MoreWhen I open this toy, I was first surprised thinking it was so small. I bought the large. Even if you have a power chewer. Hannah has shredded some of the most durable toys on the market made for power chewers. I expect this one to hold up for a long long time.
I just wanted to express my displeasure with this last set of Kong toys that I purchased. My dog gets a frozen stuffed Kong every night to settle her down and give us some dinner peace and quiet. She has for going on three years. I have four Kongs which I keep filled and in the freezer ready to go. She’s not a super chewer but definitely gives them a workout. Without fail they have lasted about a year before they need to be replaced. The last bunch I bought have not held up as well. I’ve already had to throw one away and it hasn’t been six months yet. I can only assume that the manufacturing has changed and they are being made more cheaply They pretty consistently seem to be splitting at a seam. I’m really disappointed in this. My Doberman has always enjoyed his chew toys, since he was a puppy (he’s now almost 9 yrs old). However, trying to find a toy that would last longer than 5 minutes with him was surprisingly challenging. And, yes, that included toys rated “extreme chewers.” I just happen to run into a man while I was at the vet, who suggested I try the Kong Tire, which worked for his Husky. Yes, the tire may seem smaller than you would expect a size large to be, but it holds up amazingly well. My dobie literally chews on it for extended periods literally every single day, and it typically lasts him about a year before it begins to show any signs of wear (as in a single small puncture in the sidewall of the tire). So I was just reordering him his next tire for Christmas (for the 8th ... MoreMy Doberman has always enjoyed his chew toys, since he was a puppy (he’s now almost 9 yrs old). My dog lives to shred rubber toys. She's demolished more toys than I can count in the year I've had her. I got this tire when it was cheap on sale expecting it to maybe last a half hour (how long it took her to cut a medium Kong Extreme Bone in half). It amazingly survived her chewing and is still in one piece almost a month later! She mostly just wants to pick at the "treads" on the sides, which is probably why it's not in pieces. It's made with VERY THIN rubber, so wouldn't take long to slice through if she put it between her molars like she did with the bone. I also really wish they would make this in a larger size. This is barely big enough for my 60lb pittie mix, definitely not suitable for any larger dog. Sort-of recommended, but not for power chewers or large ... MoreMy dog lives to shred rubber toys.
