The size of the instrument was perfect, right on, from the drum head to the multiple sounds you can demand, fitting on any snare drum stand was paramount. The color, blue was also a double ++ not a vibrant one making it perfect and blended very will with my drum kit. A soothing color, soft on the eyes. All in all I felt I could not have been more pleased. If fact I have been placing funds aside to purchase a second Korg Wave Drum. Thank you AMS for my purchase and thank you salesperson for knowing a plethora of ideas and uses for the instrument. A unique and Special Drum

I played some interesting drums in my time especially during my school days, but I have never seen anything like this. This is one very special little drum. First the drum's appearance is handsome, it's unique. All of the controls are at your fingertips (very well placed). The rim is solid and can take a pounding; considering it has sounds as well. I played everything the drum had and loved the fact I can play it with my hands sticks, or mallets. I checked out other electronic Drums like Roland, Yamaha, and Alesis; and even though the Roland was really cool, it didn't feel like the Wavedrum. What people don't understand is it uses a REAL drum head, not a rubber like pad. And Yes the drum head is adjustable and brings a key same as a regular drum. So it's like playing a real drum. Before buying it you should check it out on Youtube. you can see the original, the oriental, and the global. Korg Representatives have a few videos of them and you can hear the unique sounds. Trust me Once you see it, you'll buy it. And, you won't regret it. Oh, and one last thing, if you're thinking about the Wavedrum Mini, I have one and I love it. It doesn't have the real drum head or the many sounds of the Wavedrum, but it's great to play along with anything. The clip on device is the best. Read about it, I use it on practice pads or clip it on to my shoe for the base drum. The sounds are really cool.

Absolutely should have had one already

The sounds are amazing. The playability is amazing. The controls are very nice. The build quality is very sturdy. Connectivity is ok but loses a star, imo, for the lack of usb or midi option.

Looping or Live its an amazing tool

I already have a Roland handsonic 10 and as useful and versatile as the Roland is the Wavedrum is easily its equal. The sound are deep and rich multi layered and dripping with texture. I use them to make beats for my looper and the handsonic is an invaluable tool for base layer drum track. The Wavedrum is nice for specialty sounds and I really find it most useful behind the drum kit for specialty percussion is a live jamming environments. Ive only scratched the surface on the capabilities and my mind is blown.

This little drum is going to make my life a bit easier. I play at many different venues and am used to carrying a bit of my space-hogging world percussion instrument collection with me. I felt a little silly jingling with every step and being weighted down like a pack-mule, but, what are ya gonna do... I was hoping I'd be able to lighten the load with this little device, and indeed I will be able to. Right out of the box, this drum impressed me. From realism to the bizarre (but fun). There are some sounds by themselves I would never be able to use in a live setting, but, plenty others I would be able to. The sounds are very real, very high quality. That being said, the nice thing is the editing (or rather, the ability TO edit). The editing system is very deep, and once you get used to it, very powerful. You can create practically any sound you want with enough time and tweaking. However, as you may have read on other sites, it's not the easiest thing to edit. No USB port, no MIDI, no anything. This drum is this drum, that is all. It would have been nice to have a software interface, but, alas, no such luck. However, the editing is not that difficult. It looks much more intimidating than it actually is. So, despite that drawback, I still rate it 5 stars. This isn't your every day electronic drum.

Satisfied The Drummer in the Family

I'm writing this review on behalf of my partner--the person who received the Wave Drum as a gift. He has been playing drums since he was 12 or 13. The only other electronic drum he had expresssed interest in was a set that was $ plus. Well that ISN'T happening in our household. I wanted to find something to substitute for the ugly drum set that he keeps threatening to set again. We had it up in our old house and he rarely played it.I think we have a winner in this item! He set it up Christmas night and immediately started banging away. I made sure to have him watch a few videos on Youtube that featured professional drummers using the Wave Drum. That convinced him it would OK for him to use it. Anyway, he has used the drum now with and without headphones. Imagine LIKING the sound of incessant banging way. I'm really not knocking you drummers out there, but it can get bit old after a while when there isn't anymusic involved. My partner seems motivated to continue learning his new toy. We also have a KORG KOASILATOR so the next project is going to be figuring out how to hook them both up for LIVE drum/electronic noise.

This is a really unique product from Korg. The variety of built-in sounds and the breadth of expression that you can achieve with it are amazing. I use drum machines a lot but I always missed the ability to play along on a responsive surface in real-time. You can play with your fingers, palms, use brushes, sticks, mallets, beaters or whatever you like. You can play it like a snare, a tabla, a bodhran, your choices are not limited, the WaveDrum gives you that ability. You can change the skin when it wears out or try out different surfaces and tune them like a traditional drum head. It is a shame that there is no midi capability which means you can not trigger the sounds from other gear nor can you record in midi your performances for tweaking and replaying later. So this limits the WaveDrum to a real-time performance tool, each performance you make will be unique, just like playing any non-midi instrument like a guitar or piano. Compared to the earlier WaveDrums, this Global Edition has an improved in-built amplifier, you get a better signal from it for use with headphones. If you like the idea of hands-on percussion then I would highly recommend you try the WaveDrum out before they get too scarce.

Very interesting drum

This drum is very interesting in many ways. I do like a variety of the sounds. Some of these sounds I believe can be used in conjunction with recording alongside other instruments, some sounds however are more standalone. There seems to be different genres of sounds. The outer side of the drum has different sounds when tapping it than the drum head. I have not changed out the drum head just yet and in fact I probably wont for the time being. Great product overall.
