If I could give this no stars I would. The perfume fragrance was pretty strong when applying the product but I didn’t think much of it. I would equate the smell to something like a dusty “old lady”rose perfume kind of odor. Normally products fade in intensity once the hair is dry but the smell of this one intensified to the point where I became nauseated and brought on a migraine headache. I had to lather, rinse, and repeat 5 times with a quality clarifying shampoo followed by a deep conditioning hair mask just to get the smell out and even then it was still faintly present. The smell also transferred to my bonnet that I sleep in, my pillow case, and my scrunchie which all had to be washed in the washing machine in super hot water before they smelled normal again. Long story short, make sure you REALLY like the way this product smells before putting it in your hair because it sticks around and is harder to get rid of than a crazy ex partner that hasn’t accepted the break up.

Disappointing change in formulation and fragrance.

I used several tubes of this in the years preceding the Covid lockdown, tapered off as I didn’t need to wash my hair as often when working from home; and styling cream made it look dirty faster. My fine (but a lot of it), wavy hair really liked it when applied after a volumizing spray from a higher-end line; and the fragrance was light, warm, and pleasant. I bought a new tube a couple of weeks ago as I’m back to more in-person activities. I can’t find any description nor reviews reflecting that this has clearly been reformulated in the last few years, the texture and fragrance have changed, both in terrible ways. It does nothing for my hair at all except possibly adding to frizz and decreasing shine; and the fragrance now is just terribly strong and perfumey, and it ... MoreI used several tubes of this in the years preceding the Covid lockdown, tapered off as I didn’t need to wash my hair as often when working from home; and styling cream made it look dirty faster. Very disappointed.

I had been layering mousse and gel and was sturuggling to get the definition I wanted. My hair is FINE and most products weight it sown so I had never tried a cream before. I like this! I raked this cream into very wet hair, used a denman brush to section/clump and then scrunched in kinky curly custard to provide a cast. My curls were smooth and defined with ample volume. I'm confident this product, combined with the custard, would provide a few days of nice looking curls with little refresh. Unfortunatly, I was out in the humidity washday and had a lot of frizz. This product did not help with that but I have yet to fond a product that does so I won't take stars off for that. Side note: I also use the Kristen Ess "The One" shampoo and conditioner and love them.

Meh

The texture of my hair recently changed to wavy, so this was the first curl defining cream I tried. I gave this the old college try and finished the whole tube. After using it for many months, I can say I know now there just has to be something better out there. It works *okay,* but it doesn’t really do what it’s named for—defining. It also leaves hair feeling slightly greasy and dirty. I think the only positive for me was it helped me be able to brush through my hair for the first time in a long time without many tangles. Will not purchase again.

[Rewarded Review] Best product I’ve used for curls
28 January 2023

love the way my hair feels when I use this product. The good part is, it doesn’t take a lot of product to cover your hair, even thick hair. Nice product. It doesn’t irritate my scalp, nor weigh down my fine hair like other curl products. A dab goes a long way. No need to use much at all.Did I forget to mention it smells great too ! Perfect for air drying hair! I’m speaking from personal experience My hair has a natural wave that begins to straighten as my hair gets longer. This product adds fullness and keeps the wave. It does not stiffen your hair. You'll love it.so my final thoughts on this product is yes I would definitely recommend it to anyone that has curls waves are human. [Rewarded Review] Fantastic

Kristen Ess has a totally revolutionary way of caring for hair! Her Sea Salt Air Dry Mousse that has ‘zip up’ technology in it. ‘Zip Up ‘ refers to the formula that helps seal split ends and smooth damaged cuticles. I love this mousse because I always have only ever air dried my hair. There has never been a blow dryer in my bathroom but there are surprisingly no products for air dry only and this is REVOLUTIONARY. The ingredients are vegan, not tested on animals and it WORKS. It inhibits the waves and curls in my hair and it always has an on point look when ever I use it, which lately is always! Also it’s a pump mousse. It smells fantastic but not overpowering. It’s my holy hair grail!

[Rewarded Review] Gorgeous final result!!
28 February 2023

I am obsessed with everything about this product: for starters, there is a no-mess flip cap. It's virtually impossible to waste even the tiniest drop, and there will never be a crusty portion that hardens that accidentally winds up in your hair. The smell -- heaven :)And last, and most importantly. it's works so well. My hair is wavy/frizzy, so anything too heavy makes it looks like it's soaking wet with gel from the 90's. This provides a great balance and leaves an incredible finish. I'm in love!

This stuff works great! My son and I both love it! Not only is it so easy to use, which is great for someone like me who doesn't like to spend a lot of time on my hair, but also works great in my sons hair which already has some texture. First of all I love the fact that it's paraben and sulfate free as I feel there is enough junk in my other products, but it also is cruelty free! As I mentioned earlier it is so simple to use. I wash my hair like normal, get our of the shower and scrunch a small amount into my damp hair leaving it to continue to air dry after. It adds some texture that I don't have otherwise! My son puts a small amount into his hair that has some curl to it and it makes his hair look amazing! Definitely worth it if you don't have time to fix your ... MoreThis stuff works great! [Rewarded Review] Smells and Works Great
3 September 2023

After a couple of progressively worse haircuts, my daughter has an absolute mess going on on top of her head. It’s short and long and just bad all over — but Kristin Ess Air Dy Mousse makes it a little better. The mousse adds a ton of texture, which helps breathe some life into the really and haircut. With a lot of product, time and patience, it almost looks even. The mousse doesn’t make her hair stiff. It smells wonderful and it doesn’t leave any greasy residue behind. It’s easy to use and there’s no such thing as using too much. One of the best mousses we tried and the only one that can kind of make sense of the horrible haircut. Dare I say it’s a miracle worker?

[Rewarded Review] Soft waves
11 September 2023

I have wavy to curly (2c-3a) high porosity hair and generally style with curly cream and gel. When I want a softer wave pattern I like to use a mousse, and I was excited to try this one because I love many other Kristen Ess products. I found that the mousse alone wasn't strong enough to contain my frizz, but when I added a tough of curl cream on top it helped a lot. My favorite thing about this mousse is that it leaves my hair very soft - no stiffness, stickiness, or crunch. It smells great too. I only detected one start because I wish it had just a little more hold to tame my frizz without additional products. I'm going to keep this in my routine for casual wavy days!
