Comfort & Versatility

This was the first time I purchased this brand and I was not disappointed. This style has snaps so one has the option to roll them up, if desired. The absence of zippers in the legs gave these hiking pants a bit of a more polished appearance, which made they useful for travel as well as hiking. They take incredibly little suitcase space and weight hardly anything so I was able to pack several pair for my September England trip, which included hiking a portion of Hadrian's Wall. (I packed REI silk long johns for warmpth.) I am 5'5" and weigh 135; size 8 fit great.

Comfortable and Stylish pants.

Comfortable hicking pants for hot/warm/cool conditions. I liked being able to roll up at the ankles when it was hot. They fit nicely and are stylish. The light gray color also looks good and pairs nicely with any top. Could ever wear them out somewhere. The only downside is the size of the pockets. I wish the side pockets were a little bigger. I was able to squeeze my cellphone into it, but I don't have a big case and it was tight to snap the pocket shut. If you have a bulky case, it won't fit. I ended up also buying other designs of freeflex pants from kuhl, all of which are comfortable and have some type of adjustment at the ankles. Dash pants have a bigger pocket for a cellphone, but it does not close. Pluses and minuses everywhere.

These run super tiny. Not sure if the other reviews calling them true to size (or even running big) are for a previous version, but the version REI is selling in winter 2024 ran very small for me. I am a 4 in the Prana Halles and had to go up to a 10 in these for them to fit comfortably. Couldn't even get the 6 on, and the 8 was way too tight in the waist and hips to be comfortable for even a minute (and looked atrocious on). Sz 10 was perfect. I would advise you to try a few sizes, as these pants are worth it. They're super lightweight and flattering and very comfortable, once you find the right size for you.

Good fit and good for the tropics

Love these pants! I wore them for fieldwork in Monteverde Costa Rica at the start of the wet season and they were super comfy, even without a belt. They leave ample room for your curves and aren’t baggy after a few hours of wear. They also dry quickly and I get compliments on them every time I wear them. Quite a fear for hiking pants!I hate it when hiking pants get baggy and snag on stuff, and these definitely have been great (no snags). They also dry quickly and are comfortable up into the 80s temp-wise. I also tried them rolled up for a hike in West Virginia and it was like 100 degrees out so I switched into cotton shorts. But for high temps up into the 80s I think they’d work.

Great for moderate temperatures and quick drying
19 July 2024

I wore these on a 25 mile, 4-day backpack trip in the Cascades in WA state in July.Pros: Lightweight, fit well overall, cargo pockets are handy, dried very quickly, roll up option was niceCons: Not as breathable as I expected, snaps for the roll up feature were weak and kept coming undone, extra tie inside the waist band was too stretchy to actually help hold the pants up after losing some weight on the trail. After only 4 days of backpacking, I already have 2 small holes from rubbing up against rocks on the trail.I think I'll keep these for spring/fall hiking or light backpacking, but won't use for summer or more serious backpacking again.

Highly recommend! Field tested, I approve.

Great pants! Lightweight but durable. Breathable too. They also have a good amount of stretch to them. I wear them on a construction site as a monitor so I'm frequently climbing embankments, stepping over logs, and walking a lot in the heat. I'm 5'7 and 160 lbs. Normally I wear a size 10 in jeans and other brands but for Kuhls I wear a size 12 reg. If you're debating sizes, I recommend going with the bigger size. You can always use the built in elastic band if they are a little big to tighten them. I have purchased these pants in three colors and then went and purchase another two pair to have enough to get me through the work week. I'd say I'd buy them again, but because they are Kuhls they will probably last forever. My old kuhls are still going strong after years ... MoreGreat pants! Lightweight but durable. Breathable too. Highly recommend.

I would definitely purchase again!

I think these pants are great. I purchased three pair for a trip to Iceland. They were comfortable and stretchy for hiking and horseback riding yet cute to wear sightseeing and into restaurants. They are light weight so I purchased slight loose fitting so I could wear thermals when needed. I am taking them to Costa Rica and I suspect they will be perfect in warmer weather as well. They didn't wrinkle and still looked and felt great after many days of continuous wearing.I wish I had selected different colors. The kohl and black are too similar in color and the Ganache is more brown than Burgundy.I will definitely buy again.

Love these pants!!
24 January 2024

I ordered these in pavement camo as tactical pants for both the firearms classes I teach and also the leagues that I shoot in. They are so soft and comfortable. Sizing seems to be true to size on the size chart. I am a weightlifter and competitive athlete with bigger thighs and worried they would be tight in the legs for me. They fit perfectly and weren't too tight. Probably the best fitting cargo style pants I have found. For reference, I am 5'2" tall and weigh 135lb. I ordered the size 4 with a 30" inseam and the length and fit were great. I will be ordered more!

MAKE POCKETS THAT FIT TODAY’S PHONES!!!
14 January 2024

MAKE POCKETS THAT FIT TODAY’S PHONES!!!Am just dumbfounded that companies are still making hiking pants pockets that don’t fit a modern large cell phone. This is a dealbreaker for me. The snaps on these are especially stupid. Use a zipper, activewear pockets need to be totally secure. Too bad…loved these pants otherwise. Have seen many other reviews about these and other hiking/active pants which mention the lack of phone sized pockets, ESPECIALLY FOR WOMEN. When will companies learn?!? Hello?…anyone paying attention?

very comfortable
16 November 2023

I tried on at least 20 pairs of pants in the store and this pair I kept going back to. Very comfortable!!! I wore them on trail and when we started the day it was 35 degrees out, when we ended it was about 61 and I was comfortable the whole time! The snaps on the ankle cuffs were not used on our hike but I can definitely see how they would be useful when crossing streams or in very hot areas. We did go climbing through some cave systems as well and they held up good through constant walking on knees, sliding on gravel, and bending up and down. I would say for the price they are well worth it. I am relatively new to hiking and exploring and this is my first pair of true hiking pants and I will NEVER go back.
