(my Unifi doorbell has it and i love it) reason being it would illuminate the door threshold, and i have step into my house so it does make it a little safer. again if this is really their high end product i would expect something light that in it. and be able to controlled in the app setting (on and off, and time delay) My experience - bought one, and it never was able to be controlled via the app unless you were on the same wifi, or connect via Bluetooth. meaning if you weren't home you wouldn't get live updates on the lock status(who is opening and closing). after 3 support calls over a couple months they shipped me out a new one. because of the lifetime warranty on the product. i set this new one up on a different door to test it before disassembling my other. and using my Unifi Networking solution. i was able to see the device on my network and Unifi identified it as a Smart halo lock. and i have no issues with this new lock. *note i tried swapping the internal side of the lock and the issue persisted on my broken lock so it appears the WIFI NIC or control board is actually on the exterior side under the keypad? support has no idea and wouldn't provide me a diagram. :( now here is my BIG issue with this lock. the app features BLOW. if you drill into the lock settings and click info it doesn't give you the MAC address or the IP address. WTF?!?! (literally a basic setting in any IOT device mind you) this makes it a huge PITA to static the IP or trouble shoot or identify the device in a network ( have a ton of IOT devices). Support literally told me to reset the lock and connect it to a hot spot. to get the IP. LMFAO what???? when i connect it back to my actual network the IP will change, but at least i can get the MAC Address doing that. imagine being out of the house and your family, guest etc, cant get in all of a sudden. yes there is the manual key. but are you going to store that outside somewhere, that defeats the purpose of the keypad. the app has no feature to remote reboot the lock. so if the lock is acting funny or you want to cycle the IP if using DHCP , you cant sorry turkey. i again asked support about this and asked to talk to an engineer and was met with BS responses. I asked support if its possible to SSH into the device or connect remotely in any way to troubleshoot because i was trying to identify the issue with my broken lock. i mean it never looses network connection but cant talk to kwiksets portal. so that makes no sense. I can verify all traffic in my Unifi firewall and network. never drops. full connectivity, direct line of site toa Unifi pro HD AC The app only has preset times for relocking of the device, up to 30 minutes. this is just a poor design and should have more options or a user selected option. Another MASSIVE oversight. your codes to the lock are ONLY for the lock. meaning if you buy the same lock or even another kwikset smart lock that users the app. you CANNOT SAVE OR TRANSFER your codes. in my case getting the new lock i had to manually reenter 20 Freaking Codes and names and schedules. then when EVERYTIME I FACTORY RESET i had to do it AGAIN. TERRIBLE DESIGN FLAW. this needs to be an option, ideally kwikset can stop being cheap and set up cloud storage for their users to save their lock profiles (and home profiles maybe?) all in all, decent lock if you are only buying one. have a limit number of codes. and aren't Tech savvy or a tinkering person.

JUNK!! JUNK!! JUNK!!

I purchased this lock in December for a vacation home. I liked that it allows you to set codes that expire so that we could allow service workers to enter the house and not have the same code after it was used. It would be a nice feature IF the batteries lasted longer than 10 to 12 days; this thing EATS them like there is no tomorrow. I have installed every kind of battery, and it makes ZERO difference. I have probably put as much money in batteries through the lock as I paid for the lock. Batteries aren't the only issue. The instructions say it needs a particular brand of Wi-Fi router to operate on, so I changed it to match one on the "list." Additional money was spent to want to like this lock and make it function correctly. Let me tell you that was also a waste; if the wind blows in the wrong direction for even a split second, this lock will disconnect, and the only way to reset it is to reset the lock and start the programming process again. Get it all reset and back up and running, 10 minutes later it disconnects again.I have always used Kwikset locks, which are an absolute waste of money. To top it all off, I am now stuck with them because the store I purchased this piece of junk from won't even exchange it for another lock.I now have a $200 paperweight.Do yourself a HUGE favor, and do NOT purchase this piece of absolute JUNK!!Kwikset, you need to do the right thing for anyone who purchased these locks. Looking at the reviews on here and other websites, I can not believe you are even still trying to market or sell them. There is clearly a major issue with them.

Kwik Set is Stealing from Us
1 April 2024

Kwikset is stealing money from consumers. Next step should be a class action lawsuit. The amount money I have had to spend on batteries with no help and to tell me I need to add a Wifi extender so it is directly in front of the lock by support is hilarious. BTW the router is closer to the lock then the extender would be. I expect my money back as this lock does not work. Probably deserve hundreds of dollars in battery replacement costs as well. Don't trust this company there wifi electronic products do not work. This is the absolute worst wifi enabled product I have bought in my life. Such a joke.I like many have had the motor replaced and no different. The door seats correctly there is no jamming this product is just built poorly aka lemon law this Junk.

Kwikset? More Like KwikFAIL – Halo Has Fallen

I purchased the Kwikset Halo Touchscreen from Best Buy, and it has been nothing short of a nightmare. I received the lock on July 8th, and it was defective out of the box. After hours of troubleshooting, I called for a replacement, which was sent on July 10th. Unfortunately, the problems didn’t end there.Since installing the new lock, I've had to change the batteries **10 TIMES**. Yes, 10 times in just a couple of months! The lock drains roughly 10% battery a day and stops working anywhere between 40% and 15% battery life. And when I say "stops working," I mean the lock either jams or just ceases to function entirely, leaving my home **unlocked** without my knowledge. The "low battery" alerts I set up only worked once. It’s infuriating and dangerous.By the time I realized this product was completely faulty and untrustworthy, Best Buy's **new 2-week return policy** had passed. Had I been aware of this policy (which now requires a membership for the usual 30-day return window), I would have returned the lock on July 23rd. Now I’m stuck with a useless product that keeps draining batteries like candy, even though I’ve tried every brand of batteries and repositioned my extender multiple times to no avail.I contacted Kwikset in early September, hoping for a solution, only to encounter the rudest customer service rep I’ve ever spoken to. She implied that the issues were my fault, which is absurd given that my neighbor has a similar Kwikset lock (without the touchscreen), on a larger house, with no problems. They use the same internet, no extender, and have none of the headaches I’ve been dealing with.Kwikset eventually sent a new motor, which was supposed to take **8 weeks to arrive** but did arrive in 3. I found out when I called to let them know I couldn't keep going through batteries for the remaining 5 weeks. But it was arriving that day and the rep shared the tracking information which had not been sent prior. After installing it last night, guess what? It’s already down 10% battery today. This is clearly a product defect, as I've now seen multiple complaints about battery drainage on Kwikset's website, but this information was conveniently **missing** from Best Buy’s significantly higher-than-average reviews for the product. In fact, the number of reviews and the overall rating on Best Buy's site is vastly different from other retailers—something that, in hindsight, raises a lot of red flags. Even worse, I posted a review on Best Buy’s site last month, and it never appeared. Why?This whole experience has soured me on both Kwikset and Best Buy. The lock costs $200, plus the added expense of 10 sets of brand-name AA batteries. When I contacted Kwikset again, their rep basically told me if this motor didn’t fix it, there was nothing more they could do. How is it acceptable for a company to sell such a flawed product and then wash their hands of the issue?Save yourself the headache and money. Avoid this lock and, frankly, rethink trusting Best Buy’s reviews.

Kwikset? More Like KwikFAIL – Halo Has Fallen!
29 September 2024

I purchased the Kwikset Halo Touchscreen from Best Buy, and it has been nothing short of a nightmare. I received the lock on July 8th, and it was defective out of the box. After hours of troubleshooting, I called for a replacement, which was sent on July 10th. Unfortunately, the problems didn’t end there.Since installing the new lock, I've had to change the batteries 10 TIMES. Yes, 10 times in just a couple of months! The lock drains roughly 10% battery a day and stops working anywhere between 40% and 15% battery life. And when I say "stops working," I mean the lock either jams or just ceases to function entirely, leaving my home unlocked without my knowledge. The "low battery" alerts I set up only worked once. It’s infuriating and dangerous.By the time I ... MoreI purchased the Kwikset Halo Touchscreen from Best Buy, and it has been nothing short of a nightmare. And when I say "stops working," I mean the lock either jams or just ceases to function entirely, leaving my home unlocked without my knowledge. The "low battery" alerts I set up only worked once. It’s infuriating and dangerous.By the time I realized this product was completely faulty and untrustworthy, Best Buy's new 2-week return policy had passed. They use the same internet, no extender, and have none of the headaches I’ve been dealing with.Kwikset eventually sent a new motor, which took 8 weeks to arrive with no notification, and after installing it last night, guess what? It’s already down 10% battery today. This is clearly a product defect, as I've now seen multiple complaints about battery drainage on Kwikset's website, but this information was conveniently missing from Best Buy’s significantly higher-than-average reviews for the product. Very Simple Install
5 June 2024

Very easy to install. Only took about 30 minutes. Found that the supplied striker for the door jamb is a lot smaller than the one I had. After taking out the screws from jamb (very hard to do) I found that the supplied striker was a lot smaller (hole same size) and had the screw holes in different spots. I did not need to replace that. That took the longest time since it was really hard to get the long screws out of jamb. Other than that the install was very simple and easy to follow instructions. The family loves the lock as now we don't need to worry about if door is locked or unlocked. Push of a button and it is open or closed. Also the kids love creating their own special code that they can easily remember. It is also great that we can give access to others who ... MoreVery easy to install. Only took about 30 minutes. Found that the supplied striker for the door jamb is a lot smaller than the one I had. Worthless for what it's designed for
14 February 2024

I regret purchasing this lock too.The four AA Duracell batteries that came with the lock were 100% when they were installed. I watched them die on the app in 5 days: 80%, 60%, 40%, 20%, 0%. Then I bought another brand new pack of Duracell AA batteries and installed them. The same thing happened: All four dead in 5 days. The lock is not out of alignment because the batteries die when no one is living there and the bolt is not even being turned. The only issue that makes sense is the router. But guess what? That's my problem. When I called the Kwikset "Support" line--that should be available 24/7 with all the issues I see below--the person who answered had nothing to tell me about my router. But guess what? That's my problem. When I called the Kwikset "Support" line--that should be available 24/7 with all the issues I see below--the person who answered had nothing to tell me about my router. Kwikset's website includes a list of a "battery friendly" routers to buy, but the support person couldn't even tell me what "Battery friendly" meant. She mentioned 5G vs. 2.5G router communication, but diving into that is all on me.It's stunning that Kwikset would sell a Smartlock that must communicate via a router, and then have people on the Support line who have no knowledge about routers. There's a detailed installation guide, but I still cannot find a complete manual for the lock. The Support pages provide answer to their list of questions, but if your question isn't listed, there's no answer for you. This lock is on our rental property, which is in a different state than my home. That is the entire reason for purchasing this smartlock.I'm out of time this trip so I'll have to continue working on this odyssey the next time I'm out here. The name "KWIKSET" stays lit on the panel. I don't remember seeing that before, and since there's no manual to explain that and no question about that on the Support page, I wonder if that is also draining the batteries.I fly out tonight. So I'll have to power off the router this time as a troubleshooting test to see if it still drains the batteries--if that's the problem--and try to resume the troubleshooting next trip. Of course, with the router shut down, I will no be able to manipulate or even monitor the lock remotely so we're going dark until next time.If I can't figure it out between talking to Kwikset again; and talking to Linksys, the maker of our router; and talking to our Internet provider, than I'm going to have to pay a locksmith a second time (another $300) to remove this chunk of crap and install a lock built by a company that doesn't have these simple battery issues. I can't believe it's this difficult.By the way, I can return the lock for a refund, but according to the Support person at Kwikset, I'm on the hook for the $600 worth of locksmith bills.-JD
