I used this mandoline slicer on a weekly basis for 8 years and it stayed nice and sharp that entire time and just recently broke - the red plastic next to the blade cracked. My main complaint about it was the finger guard. It cracked soon after purchase but I had a spare from the julienne slicer that I still use with frustration. The guard needs better guides so it doesn't slip all over the place and needs a better way to grip the produce. I think I'm going to upgrade and get a stainless steel mandoline with interchangeable blades so I don't have to have two slicers in the drawer and won't risk it cracking.

This item has a good blade which is nice and sharp, the problem with it is it is so cheaply made, very flimsy and I am sure if you put any pressure on it, it would easily break. Also the blade is so small and the item is not very wide so it isn't any good for doing cabbage etc as way too skinny for this. Works well for tomato but you need to use the holder or will end up cutting yourself more than the tomato. All in all for the price a very cheaply made poor quality product that I would not recommend.
I wanted to love this mandoline, especially since I had already returned the first one I got. Sadly, it just didn't happen. It wasn't substantial enough for me. It felt like it was going to fall apart any time I would slice an onion or potato. It also tore up one of my tomatoes.I let my mom borrow it while she had a cast on her wrist, then I just never bothered to take it back. I'm not terribly upset about not having it.
The paring knife and peeler combo is my second set. Really handy and works VERY well.The individual peeler was PRECISELY what I expected. KUDOS!!!I have yet to use the “Mandolin” slicer but I am positive it will be a great kitchen tool.
Simple to use and easy to clean and store. The finger guard is only moderately useful with softer foods the teeth of the guard can sink into.A week into using the mandoline, I sliced off the top edge of my thumb. A friend recommends using cut-resistant gloves, but I’ll probably just try to be more careful.
I have no idea how this slicer got such high ratings. I researched many slicers and finally decided on this. It makes very thin slices even on the largest of 4 settings. It is also awkward to use. I am so sorry that I wasted my money.
I have 3 of these and love them. It's nice to slice a mushroom and have it very thin for salad toppings....they look great. Also have the one that shreds and use it to make homemade slaw. Can't say enough about these but be very careful....they have a very sharp blade and, since I've had one for 4 years, stays very sharp.
I have used this product for a number of years having first purchased it from a rack in a boutique. A friend visited and he loved it so much I gave it to him....he's happy. I slice everything from mushrooms to potatoes and it works beautifully. I have lost the protector top and wonder how I can get another. Any advice?
