I bought this on recommendation from Kyocera, but am quite disappointed. I was anxious to put to good use on my dull ceramic knife but found it "bogs" down when pulling the knife through. Perhaps if it used direct current it would be much stronger than with 4 batteries, but I would not recommend very disappointing results

The sharpener is designed for Kyocera ceramic knives. For the Kyocera knives I have it works great. If you try to sharpen any old knive that it is not designed for, it does not work very well. It is for Kyocera and that works great.
I wanted a sharpener for Japanese knives, it works very well I now have ultra sharp knives. The delivery was amazing especially with the present problems. Door to door 6 days, Japan to UK 6 days well done.
This is an expansive product. it's a shame it doesn't sharp the whole knife because the way it designed And you need skills to use it, if you hold the blade too close to the disk the engine stops working, it requires a very steady hands. If i knew that before I bought it- i wouldn't.
Was very disappointed in this purchase. It is quite hard to use and does not work with the ceramic knife I have. The regular knifes are hard to get good results with.Would not make this purchase again
Strangely, 'not firmly set' mechanism making it difficult know if and when one's sharpening properly or not. Only tried steel knives so far. VERY wary about using it to sharpen my ceramics. Very good price from this (Japanese) source, though, and doesn't look like a knock off.
It works and does a great job on ceramic knives which most shops cannot do.
