Best natural blonde dye out there

I used to pay a lot to have my hair bleached and toned in a salon but, like many people these days, I’m cutting back on expenditure. Since the first lockdown I’ve been bleaching my hair at home and trying out different dyes to go over it (let’s face it, the bleach yellow isn’t a nice colour and at-home toners don’t do anything). This dye is the best one I’ve found and works well for me. The colour comes out even and looks very natural - not yellow or too silver. Of course, the result depends on you following the instructions properly, and if you have medium-dark brown hair you’ll need to lighten it with bleach first. The bad reviews are from people who clearly didn’t lighten their hair first. I’d recommend.

Dark brown NOT black

Yes, this colour is very dark. For someone who has had jet black hair for 14yrs, went copper and then decided she missed her dark side, I can confirm it’s DARKEST brown exactly like the box. Give it 2-3washes before you decide. It’s quite runny, but I’ve 90% grey hair(and I’m only 33 lol) and this covers every single sparkle! I’ve tried nice n easy, doesn’t cover the grey unless black. Same with Schwarzkopf live unless black. I’ve tried them all. But I swear, this, I hope they never stop making it. It’s perfect! The treatments however that come with it, USELESS.

It was looking yellow and dull and I felt horrible. I read the reviews, glad I did, left the 8.1 Natural Ash blonde on for only 10 minutes as my hair is porous and I was scared of it going too dark. It turned out darker than I thought it would for a 8.1 and for only 10 minutes development time. So glad I didn’t leave it for longer or it would have been really dark! My hair looks a nice dark ash blonde which I’m sure will fade after a few washes, it feels in nice condition and has a shine to it. It easy to use and eliminated the brassy yellow tones. Overall I’m happy with it! I do recommend, but if you are looking to tone down light hair, be aware that any longer than 15 minutes may make it darker. And if you have darker hair this will not lighten it to the colour on the box, it will just tone down any red/orange tones to ash.

Disappointed
1 May 2022

I used L’Oréal Excellence 9.1 light ash blond for many years with great results. Amazing long lasting light ash blonde colour. I only colour my roots. For the past few months I used the same colour and my roots are yellow with a light orange tinge. You can see a big difference between my approximately 5cm regrowth and previously coloured hair. The “new “ improved formula doesn’t deliver. Very sad as it has been my favourite colour. Unfortunately my light ash blonde hair is not ash anymore …

Disappointing
24 August 2022

I used the natural ash blonde 8.1. I originally had naturally medium brown hair with the ends being lighter from the sun. I didn't expect my hair to go the colour on the box but just wanted to lighten my hair up a bit. I put the dye on the ends first as I wanted these to be lighter and after 20 mins moved up to my roots. I ended up with gingery roots and dark ends! This dye actually darkened my hair. How? I only use natural shampoo bars on my hair so maybe this has something to do with it. I wouldn't recommend using this unless you already have lightened hair. I also found the smell to be very strong even in a ventilated room.

Excellence Pearl blonde
7 January 2023

I have used Age Perfect Rose Blonde for many years with excellent results. I have very resistant grey, but just loved the cover Age Perfect provided. When I went to buy, was informed it was no longer available and was recommended Exellence pearl blonde!! I am just so disappointed with results!! Coverage was very poor and my hair felt so much drier, I had to use Argan oil !! Will you be bringing Age Perfect back , if not,,I will have to change brands, which I am reluctant to do, as I have never found as good as product as Age Perfect to suit my hair, I am of “mature age” and don’t like changes!!!! Hoping for favourable reply, regards from Lorraine Deshon

Life changing!
11 November 2021

I have been a box dye snob for years, spending a fortune on highlights and root touch ups. I’m naturally medium brunette with a lot of greys for my age, salt and pepper with white above my ears. I had brassy highlights since a hairdresser wrecked them trying to take me to a dark blond (which cost me $280!). For years I’ve had hairdressers mock home colour, talk about the disasters and “don’t do it” and now I know why. For $20 I now have hair that looks better than what any senior hairdresser at an expensive salon has been able to achieve. I went for the 8.1 ash blonde, after some careful consideration between that and the 7.1 medium ash blonde. I’m glad I did. I am going to be sticking to this colour from now on, lockdown or not. I am kicking myself for not trying this out years and years ago - instead of paying to get my roots done (often badly) every three or four weeks.

Unhappy with this product
19 June 2022

There was trouble from the start: it was difficult to squeeze the colourant into the bottle before mixing. Also, the product is advertised as non-drip, yet it did drip, and stained a towel. These are minor matters, however; the end result was not as I expected. The colour was nothing like the photo on the packet; it came out much darker, duller and browner (my hair colour previously was light golden blonde, and I only really needed to cover grey roots). Such a disappointment - and right before attending a long-awaited social event!

Very good
25 March 2023

I bleach my hair first 20% peroxide do the roots only each time, i will check after rinse shampooed, any missed places, or yellow i lift again, better to do twice than over fry first time. So i am getting a good lift, my real hair dark brown, added grey. Bleaching done after 24/48 hours later I then use this colour as a toner, leave in 40 mins. I am very happy - better than salon, like a warm icy blonde (not the exact solided white). I don't like yellow, nor ash - I say its like a baby blond colour. Either have a natural white hair, or treat as a toner after bleach for the likeness to box picture. Next day rinse out, and i have extremely soft hair. Shampoo is nice too. It's a pity not sold in big bottles too - because I will go at times 3 months before re dying hair. When life not chaotic normally every 3 - 4 weeks re do hair. I hope this gives a little clarity how to get the best out this product. Been using loreal 40 + years.

Will buy again
17 February 2023

I usually use another L'Oreal Excellence creme hair colour which made my hair look slightly yellow at the roots, so tried this for a change. No irritation when applied and I like the comb attachment to the apllicator bottle as it helps with more even distribution. Applied to the roots first, then went back through the mid-length. I knew the risk of putting it on the much lighter ends but I had some left so applied it for the last 10-15 minutes and of course, I ended up with slighty grey tones. That wasn't a problem for me as I've had much worse in the past and knew it was a risk, and it came out gradually with each wash - i think it was gone after 2 or 3 washes. It won't put me off buying it again.
