I purchased La Roche-Posay Effaclar Duo Plus after reading a blog review. I suffer from consistent breakouts of cystic acne and with sensitive skin needed a gentle solution. It has a very light consistency gel-cream texture and a subtle scent. It quickly absorbs into the skin without feeling sticky or oily. It is easy to apply. You can use for the entire face morning and evening, after cleansing and even provides a great base for make-up. Or as I prefer only to use the Effaclar Duo on areas where I have problems, directly on clean skin. It does not eliminate acne, but it prevents acne from forming. It has definitely helped in clearing out and improving my skin texture. New breakouts have also reduced as well as blemishes from previous marks.\nWhile it took ... MoreI purchased La Roche-Posay Effaclar Duo Plus after reading a blog review. This is now one of my holy grail acne treatments. \n\nPros - \n\n• Affordable\n• Reduces redness.\n• Works great as a spot treatment.\n• Does not turn skin oily.\n\nCons -\n• Can sting at first \n• No SPF.\n• Not a suitable as a standalone moisturizer \n\nI would recommend this product to anyone who is trying to fight spots, acne or clogged skin. It is also fantastic for improving scars or as a spot treatment for breakouts.\n

I finally bought into the Effaclar hype earlier this year when my acne just wouldn't settle down with new zits popping up every few days. Sadly, this turned out not to be the answer to my skin's problems.\n\nMY SKIN: Sensitive, acne-prone, not oily. Keeping acne at bay and healing post-inflammatory hyperpigmentation (PIH) are my main concerns.\n\nPRODUCT PACKAGING: An opaque 40mL tube with a very slim nozzle which is perfect for dispensing just the right amount of product while also maintaining the integrity of the ingredients. \n\nNOTABLE INGREDIENTS: So many! More than the hype, it was the incredible ingredients that I couldn't resist, and I finally bit the bullet and purchased a tube. Niacinamide to reduce and soothe inflammation as well as to improve skin texture; Zinc PCA to regulate oil secretion; LHA, which is a milder derivative of BHA (salicylic acid) to slough off dead skin cells, helping prevent clogged pores; prebiotics to rebalance the skin's microbiome; a proprietary ceramide that prevents PIH. How could I not be drawn to this product?\n\nTEXTURE & CONSISTENCY: Ultra light and very cosmetically elegant, it spreads easily and evenly, drying down to a matte, unfortunately veering towards drying, finish. It defies all pre-conceived notions of what an acne treatment looks like - except for the drying aspect.\n\nSCENT: Unfortunately, this is not fragrance-free, so it's not the best option for those with very sensitive skin. However, the scent is very mild, and rather than a cosmetic fragrance, it smells more like a chemical-masking fragrance.\n\nPERFORMANCE: In the first month, I minimised my routine to just four products: a cleanser, a night serum, a sunscreen, and this. They recommend that you apply the product all over your face one to three times a day, so I used it as my moisturiser twice a day. The first few times I applied it, there was a slight stinging sensation, and throughout the day my skin felt mildly itchy, but nothing unbearable or distracting. Thankfully, these issues subsided after a few days.\n\nThe other thing I noticed immediately was how un-moisturised, my skin felt using this. I used a moisturising sunscreen, which helped during the day, but at night, my skin really craved extra moisture. My skin was not a dry, cracked mess, but it didn't feel comfortable. And throughout all this, my skin didn't clear. I don't know if I'm too clouded by wishful thinking or if I'm being objective, but during this temperamental period, prior to using the Effaclar Duo [+], I'd get a couple of new zits every few days, but adding this might have reduced the number, but not the frequency.\n\nWhen I could see no improvement, I started incorporating products back into my routine. My skin felt better with the added moisture, but again, the zits would not stay away. Any hope I had that I was going through a purging period was quashed by the end of eight weeks and I had to accept that it just wasn't working for me.\n\nRECOMMEND?: Those ingredients still make me swoon even though the product didn't work for me, so maybe give it a try if you have mild to moderate acne (LRP's recommendation) but especially if your acne is accompanied by oily skin. Otherwise, if it's adult acne that doesn't have anything to do with excessive oil production, I'd go for a retinol-based treatment.

There are very few non prescription acne products that I've tried that have really wowed me and the LRP effaclar duo plus is definitely one of them. Acne had never really been a struggle of mind when I was a teenager but when I got to my 20's it appeared and it stayed for good! Not only did it leave me with blemishes but it also left behind horrible pigmentation which really bothered me to the point where I would have to wear makeup to cover it up all the time. Acne had never really been a struggle of mind when I was a teenager but when I got to my 20's it appeared and it stayed for good! Not only did it leave me with blemishes but it also left behind horrible pigmentation which really bothered me to the point where I would have to wear makeup to cover it up all the time. I wanted to have fresh, even and acne free skin for once and this was the product that got me closer to what I had so desperately wanted.\n\nThe Product: The LRP duo plus is a product with a serum/cream consistency that would help not only with controlling acne and blemishes but it would also help with minimising pores, exfoliating and balancing out the skin and reducing pigmentation. \n\nWho is it for: This product is something I would recommend for those who have oily and acne prone skin. It's also good for those who suffer from pigmentation, congested skin and large pores. It has a cocktail of amazing ingredients that work to fight all of these issues without leaving your skin feeling dry or tight\n\nHow to use it: I would generally use this product at night before bed after I finished washing my face. I would dab a little bit of the product all over and then rub it in gently until it was fully absorbed. It would soak right in very quickly and because the consistency was like a serum it didn't leave any residue behind nor did it make my skin feel oily. You can use it in the morning just make sure to wear SPF as the ingredients can make your skin sensitive if exposed to sunlight. I would sometimes use this before wearing makeup as a primer because it would create such a great canvas by reducing any oil and allowing my makeup to really stay put without sliding off. \n\nThe Price: It is $30 for a bottle of the product which can be seen as being expensive but for what the product does and how little of it I need to use I found it to be a good deal. I only needed to use a little bit to actually see results and the product would last me quite awhile. Not to mention you can always pick this up from the chemist which always has promotions and sales so that's always an option! \n\nResults: I think this has to be one of very small list of products that I've tried where I could see results by the next day. I remember having several different blemishes on my face and using this cream/serum. Come morning I had seen that my blemishes had immediately shrunk in size and they were barely noticeable. The pores around my cheeks and nose can get very congested and after using it I could see that it had almost gone away. My skin didn't feel as rough as before, my once very oily skin was not matte and shine free. The pigmentation and acne marks that I had on my cheeks were fading away. In fact some parts it actually started to flake off and once I would wash my face the pigmentation had become much lighter. It was truly a god send! \n\nOverall thoughts: I was very impressed with this product and ended up running out to get more for myself and convinced my sister to get some as well to help with her acne struggles. It became the only acne clearing product that I would turn to, especially if I needed to clear my skin ASAP for an occasion (not that I wouldn't want it to be cleared as soon as possible anyway). I found that if I would use it too often my skin would start to sting a bit so I would try to use it every other day to give my skin some rest. My skin is normally not that sensitive so I was fine with it but others may have issues so make sure to do a patch test first before using it all over your face. I would definitely recommend this product as it has made such a huge improvement to clarity and overall texture of my skin. I can now finally leave the house without wearing makeup as my skin looks so much better than before. There's minimal redness, my pores aren't as congested, my oily skin is tamed and my acne has been eliminated. It's a product I will never stop using! \n

Although I am well and truly past my teenage years, I unfortunately still tend to get acne and breakouts, particularly on my cheeks and chin. I purchased Effaclar Duo Plus as it sounded very promising, as it claims it's designed to reduce breakouts, minimise the size of pores, as well as redness and post-acne marks/scars. Firstly the positives are that the product does come in a squeezable tube and this makes it more hygienic and stable, plus it's great if you're travelling etc. The tube size is 40ml which is pretty generous for under $30 and it gave me the chance to really try out this treatment for several weeks to see if it worked for me. The product is also fragrance-free and suitable for somewhat sensitive skin types, although it does contain salicylic acid. ... MoreAlthough I am well and truly past my teenage years, I unfortunately still tend to get acne and breakouts, particularly on my cheeks and chin. The product is also fragrance-free and suitable for somewhat sensitive skin types, although it does contain salicylic acid. However, I used this treatment as recommended on the packing at least twice a day for just over 2 months, and unfortunately I didn't find it did much to minimise or treat my existing breakouts, nor did not prevent new ones from forming on my cheeks and chin. I don't have very large pores so I can't comment on how effective it is in reducing the look of my pores, but the formula is pretty light and not too heavy or thick so it does absorb well. There is no greasy feel or stickiness, and I think it would be best for oilier skin types. The light texture does also create a smooth base for makeup application. \n\nThe product claims to be designed for mild to moderate acne, which I do have, but I haven't noticed any improvement with my breakouts, so I am a little disappointed with this acne treatment. I also didn't see any reduction or improvement with my acne scars and I have a few visible ones on my cheeks, which still appear to be the same as before I used this product. This product didn't cause any significant irritation, dryness or redness like most acne treatments and my skin could easily tolerate 2 to 3 applications a day without discomfort or flakiness. It also does provide very mild exfoliation so my skin feels smoother than before, but nothing too amazing. \n\nOverall, although this treatment sounded great, unfortunately it didn't do much to treat my breakouts. I won't be repurchasing this product, but I think the texture and lightweight formula is suitable for anyone with oily skin who wants gentle exfoliation and light hydration. \n

This product was recommended to me to minimise pores which had become more noticeable as iv aged and I was quite self conscious about it. The cream really works. After just a few weeks my pores were less noticeable and my skin looked smoother. I also have an oily tzone and the lightweight cream controls the oil and shine and helps prevent the odd breakout I still get. It feels light to wear and is a silky consistence that spreads easily and sinks right into my skin. It’s perfect for anyone with sensitive skin as it never irritates and a little goes a long way so it’s quite economical, it lasts for ages. I have also given a tube of this to my teenage niece who suffers breakouts and she loves it, so it’s suitable for all age groups. I've been using this for the past month or with their foaming gel to help with my adult acne, and anyone who suffers from acne knows how much of an impact it can have on your wellbeing. OMG! It has been incredible! Similarly to the foaming gel, it won't get rid of any acne you already have, but it will sooth it and prevent anymore from showing up. Now, my skin has become much clearer, the redness is almost all gone, it's gentle on my sensitive skin and makes my skin feel really soft after use. I'm never using anything else again.

Cleared my skin
7 August 2022

I've been using for about 6 to 7 weeks with the effaclar serum and foaming dmface wash and my skin has literally never looked so good. I was apprehensive at first as together they add up $$. Didn't see any results for first 4 weeks but then I started to see results and now my skin is blemish free. I use as directed. Would definitely recommend.I didn't have very bad acne But I had spots, white heads and small black heads around my chin, head and some Small ones on cheeks. I am Delighted I found this and finally found something that actually worked

Didn't notice much change over a year

In terms of irritation, the effacular duo plus is great. I have not experienced any irritable redness or skin peeling during my use of this product, and it feels normal on the skin, just like a moisturising cream. It's worth noting that this treatment is meant to dry out your face to treat it, especially if you apply it over your whole face. I am on my second tube of this product, but the main reason why was because I hoped to keep using it for longer incase it was time to produced noticeable results. Plus, with their high reputation and high end prices, you expect noticeable results and benefits. However, I started using this during around mid 2020 as a spot treatment and sometimes the whole face, and I have not noticed ground breaking results.

Great for my dry sensitive skin

I have very sensitive skin but I now use this every night. It smoothes out rough texture on my skin but doesn’t leave it feeling dry. I don’t suffer from acne but I was getting small pimples around the bottom of my face often. It’s been 4 weeks and now I barely have any! As my skin is typically dry I just use another moisturiser after using Effaclar duo and that seems to work great and I have no irritation
