A brilliant moisturiser for anyone of any age prone to spots. The Effaclar H range has worked wonders on my skin for many years (I use the cleanser every day regardless of what happens to the rest of my routine) and it has yet to let me down. This cream is designed to soothe the effects of acne-targeted drying products and is non-comedogenic (this means it won’t clog your pores — a key label to look for). I use it generously at this time of year. It’s not as rich as other moisturisers, but it seeps into my face beautifully and provides light protection without compromising. It’s also small enough to fit into your handbag, if you want to top up during the day. This was recommended by my dermatologist while taking medication for acne. It’s so lightweight but very moisturising, and doesn’t leave my skin greasy or oily. I use it twice per day it works well under makeup. The smell is gentle and not overpowering. Highly recommend for anyone with sensitive skin like mine.

I dont often leave reviews but this one 100% warrants it. I never EVER used to wear moisturizers as I have kinda oily skin and found they used to make me extra oily. Recently Ive been looking into skin care more and discovered I was getting extra oily because my skin barrier was damaged which was creating more oil. It didnt help that I would use products for oily skin stripping my skin barrier damaging it further and then not apply moisturizer. I've started using other products niamidacide to help with skin barrier and oil production but feel like this has also been a hero product for me. After using this my skin barrier is SO much healthier meaning I'm not half as oily as what I was before. Best moisturiser ever!
17 May 2020

I bought this last week as I have started a long course of antibiotics and a retinoid (Adapalene) for stubborn acne. I have always have combination skin on the more oily side, but since I started the new medication my skin has completely dried out. I did a lot of research into the best products to use while treating my acne as the original products I was using irritated my new skin type and caused a burning sensation. I purchased this along with the hydrating cleansing cream and I have notice such an improvement! My skin doesn’t burn when I apply it, nor does it go red and blotchy! It soothes and calms my skin, restores the hydration and dryness and doesn’t irritate my acne. I am 22 and have had fluctuating acne since I was 11/12 and nothing has helped my skin as ... MoreI bought this last week as I have started a long course of antibiotics and a retinoid (Adapalene) for stubborn acne. Would definitely recommend - I’ve been out to purchase back ups while they are still on offer!!

Best moisturiser!
26 May 2020

I bought this moisturiser just over a month ago - having been stuck at home, my face broke out and I was in desperate need for something to help. I have combination skin, but more on the oily side. This moisturiser in combination with the Thermal Water saved me after years of spots and blemishes. I replaced my previous toner with the Thermal Water, and after spraying a fine mist and keeping it on for 30 second, I then apply the moisturiser. My skin feels more hidrated and it now has cleared out.The only extra bit I'd say that you need to make sure you wear sunscreen after you put this cream on. I realised that I got freckles after being in the sun (shorly after applying the moisturiser) and not adding sunscreen (but that's my fault!).Overall, I am very impressed ... MoreI bought this moisturiser just over a month ago - having been stuck at home, my face broke out and I was in desperate need for something to help. Fab for replenishing barrier post harsh treatments
26 September 2018

I have had moderately severe acne for 10+ years and have recently begun to exfoliate with AHA and BHAs. I also occasionally spot treat with benzoyl peroxide and retinoids. While these products are fab for keeping cystic acne at bay and drying up whiteheads, I find they make me so dry and sore to the point that I have to discontinue even sparing use of them – no moisturiser seemed to replenish the barrier they'd depleted so I could not use them effectively. THEN CAME EFFACLAR H. I pop this on once my BHA has sunk in and wake up with no flaking or soreness whatsoever; it's super moisturising, doesn't aggravate existing acne (even though it does leave an oily sheen) and seems to leave my pores looking tighter and my skin generally clearer than the BHA alone (probably ... MoreI have had moderately severe acne for 10+ years and have recently begun to exfoliate with AHA and BHAs. Yep, it's expensive, but a little goes a long way and it's become my holy grail after just a couple of weeks. I will continue to repurchase. Still remember, however, if you're using acids and retinoids that you will need sunscreen – whilst otherwise a miracle, this product doesn't have SPF.

Most amazing thing ever
29 September 2021

I’ve always struggled with moisturizers. Everyday I get told by dermatologists, friends family and people with amazing skin that moisturizer is an essential but I’ve tried nearly every single company (from drugstore to expensive) and none of them gave benefits/ made my skin worse. This is the most amazing, lightweight moisturizer and works perfect with the la roche cleanser. My acne has cleared and redness is going leavinf me with glowy skin. I ran out about a week ago and stopped using and my skin slowly went back to bad, so I am certain it’s these products that makes my skin amazing

Only thing that works for my dehydrated skin!
20 March 2018

My skin type is combination and I have always had dehydrated skin anyway, but I used benzoyl peroxide (acne treatment) which further worsened my dry skin. All other moisturisers I tried still left my skin not feeling properly hydrated, this DID! And I think it helped clear up my scaly skin on forehead. I used cerave before and although very hydrating it broke me out and I feel like this one does a better job anyway. The only drawbacks are it does leave your face with a SLIGHT shine but without having these properties it wouldn’t lock the moisture in so I can forgive this. I tend to mix it with a lighter moisturiser for day time / under make up and use it properly at night time and have no problems. Having combination skin, this sounds scary but it honestly doesn’t ... MoreMy skin type is combination and I have always had dehydrated skin anyway, but I used benzoyl peroxide (acne treatment) which further worsened my dry skin. I’m also using it in conjunction with the ordinary niacinamide serum and I really feel like the serum stops me breaking out from heavier creams. (It closes pores) It does feel light on the skin but you can also tell it’s heavy if that makes sense. A long paragraph but hope that is useful! Really the best moisturiser I hve found and it has really helped my skin, I feel my fine lines are reduced and my skin is finally looking less dull. On my second tube :) a bit more than I’d like to pay but so worth it!

Unpleasant fragrance and not moisturising enough
10 January 2022

I was recommended this moisturiser by my dermatologist for use in my skincare routine because I've started using Tretinoin. I had high hopes because I like other products by La Roche-Posay, but sadly I will not be repurchasing this. I'm usually not bothered by fragrance in skincare, in fact, I quite like it. However, the fragrance in this product I find to be deeply, deeply unpleasant. Like dead flowers and alcohol. I actually hate using it, the smell is so vile. And it LINGERS. I can smell it for ages after use. Yuck. I could possibly get past the fragrance if it worked well as a moisturiser for me, but I don't find it to be nearly moisturising enough. It doesn't seem to absorb well and my skin still feels a bit tight after use. It doesn't seem to absorb well and my skin still feels a bit tight after use. It seems to just sit on my skin in a greasy film, smelling horrible. If it wasn't for the fragrance and the greasy feeling I'd think I'd forgotten to actually use a moisturiser after my cleanser. Overall, a very unfortunate purchase and I'm sorely tempted to bin it before it's finished.

I never write reviews unless I really believe the product is worth it, and WOW is it worth it.I went out on a limb and thought I would give this product a go after lots of online research.I have acne prone skin, which is also dry in places, and I use prescription Retin-A which makes my skin so hard to treat. After years of searching and hundreds of pounds down the drain, I can hands down say that the Effaclar H is the only morning moisturiser I use now. It has no fragrance, which is great for sensitive skin, it doesn't leave you oily or pasty and a little bit goes a long way. I swear by L-R-P's products. If my skin is feeling extra dry at night (especially after a full day face-mask chaffing) I go in with a bit of their Cicaplast Baum B5 which is thick, but ... MoreI never write reviews unless I really believe the product is worth it, and WOW is it worth it.I went out on a limb and thought I would give this product a go after lots of online research.I have acne prone skin, which is also dry in places, and I use prescription Retin-A which makes my skin so hard to treat. Also because my face is now well moisturised, I am getting less clogged pores and less cystic breakouts which is a huge win.Love the product, would recommend to you, your mum, your distant uncle Frank and even your dog.
