Been climbing in these for a month now. Typically wear size US 8 street, got these in EU 38, and they were initially an aggressive, tight fit. These took about 2-3 sessions to break in. There were hot spots on the big toe, however tolerable, it was no longer an issue after about 2-3 weeks. I have a wide foot and small heel, and these fit better than any shoe I have (~10 different pairs from Sportiva, Evolv, Tenaya, and 5.10). The rubber is really soft and sensitive throughout, yet the edge on the toe is stiff and performs great on small feet. The heel is solid and never moves or deform during heel hooks. This is happening to both mine and my friend's Theory. Regardless, we both love them and they've become our #1 go to for bouldering. Will definitely buy another pair in the future, and probably downsize to EU 37.5.

Easily my favourite LaSport shoe. They managed to take everything I liked from all their past shoes (solution toe, futura heel, skwama closure strap, no-edge on the sides) and put it all into one shoe. Definitely painful at first, but after 3 or so sessions it goes from only being able to wear it for 15 minutes to feeling like a perfect fit. My go-to shoe for projects both indoors and out ever since they discontinued the 5.10 team.

I’ve been climbing in the Theory since it came out and have absolutely loved every second of it. The shoe is soft, sticky, fits my foot perfectly, and does nearly everything I want it to. By far my favorite gym shoe and the first shoe I will put on when I’m outside. With the shoe being on the softer side, I’ve found that they break in over the course of the first 2-3 sessions and then are at peak performance for the next while. Towards the end of their life, they become a little too soft and the shoe begins to lose its edge. For comp climbers, I would give an 11 out of 10 recommendation... and for everyone else, a 10/10 haha.

Early days but….
1 February 2022

Bought these the same size as previous solutions and futuras and that worked well. (For comparison that’s 39 in all the sportiva shoes and I am a 40 in Drago LV) They are very tight as expected but are easing quickly.Fitted my Sportiva shaped feet superbly well. They look a bit odd with the small edge at the front and masses of “no edge” and toe box rubber but seem to perform really well.Incredibly sensitive and very precise but also extremely forgiving of some lazy/sloppy foot placement.I was initially worried about the yellow heel rubber because I hated the red on the Genius I had a few years ago, I know it says Grip 2 but on the Genius it was Grip nothing!Pleased to report heel hooking in Theory is a much happier experience! All round and after only five ... MoreBought these the same size as previous solutions and futuras and that worked well. Great indoor bouldering shoe
17 September 2022

Bought these because I liked the amount of rubber on the toes and read good things about the heel hooks. They perform well! These are great for overhanging routes. They are less durable than other shoes, so I would add these to your arsenal but not use them as an everyday/full-session shoe. More-so for harder sends or when the toe or heel hook just isn't sticking with your other shoes. I'd say go same size as your skwamas or solutions.

Great shoes
18 December 2022

Soft sticky rubber. Greatly improved grip compared to my old shoes. The fit is a little weird in the heels. There is extra space from side to side even though it's a tight fit from heel to toe. When climbing, if I hook my heel on a grip, there is terrible feel because my heel always slides around inside the shoe. 4/5, got them on sale on blackfriday and don't regret it. Looking at the full price and knowing what I know now, I would pick something else.

Great shoes
15 April 2023

I’ve only used these for about a month now, but they broke in quickly and have a very snug feel with a tension-y type fit from the toes and wrapping around the heel. I have a narrow foot and these are the first that the heel feels like it stays put. Also these feel very “sticky” on any big volumes or holds. Definitely a great shoe for indoor climbing (haven’t tried them outside yet).

Not Just a Theory
31 October 2020

I was super excited to try out the Theory as soon as I heard about the shoe. After climbing in them for a month, the Theory has really impressed me with its performance! It is designed for competition bouldering but it is also amazing on outdoor rock, particularly steep and roof terrain where a variety of advanced foot tricks are useful. I find the Theory comfortable enough to wear on long sport climbs, although it took me a few sessions to break the shoes in initially. The shoe is covered in rubber allowing any part of the foot to help grab the wall facilitating scumming and other innovative foot tricks. Toe hooks in particular stand out as a major advantage of this shoe. I feel like I've been spoiled toe hooking in the Theory as no other shoe feels quite as secure ... MoreI was super excited to try out the Theory as soon as I heard about the shoe. The Theory comes with the P3 system to retain the original shape of the shoe over time.

Not as good as I hoped
30 December 2021

I started out really liking the theories, but now that I'm at the end of my second pair I'm going back to the skwamas. These shoes are great for their niche which is smearing on volumes, and the toes are good as long as the edges don't get too small. However as a daily shoe it really fails on a lot of points, the heel rubber is not soft enough to stick on smeary heelhooks, the toe edge rounds quickly and once it does you won't be toeing down on any small foot jibs on a board or outdoors, and lastly the rubber is just too thin to be at all durable. After two and a half months climbing in my latest pair, there is now a hole forming both on the tip and on the knuckle of the big toe.I'm not looking to spend ÂŁ500+ on climbing shoes per year so these are a no for me.

Tricky to size but very worth the hassle

I read just about every review of these that exist online, of which there aren’t all that many compared to other shoes.I love these shoes. The fit throughout and especially the heel has been a game changer, and the xsGrip2 is a noticeable step up for indoor bouldering compared to the xsEdge. Compared to Miuras they are not as good at edging, but that’s to be expected and I’ve found them capable. A very welcome performance boost has been while on kilterboard because they are great at gripping everything, and also working out cave problems the toe and heel hooking has been great.SIZING:I believe that my feet are a little bit on the wider side, so my Miuras for example felt a bit tight in the toe box. That was also true for these (unsurprising since many say La Sportiva tend to run narrow), however I’d say they are not as narrow as the Miuras.I tried sizing down initially and I either couldn’t get my foot physically in the shoes, or they were terribly painful. I got a pair in my size and they were very tight (particularly the toe box), but I wore them around the house, over a heater, sat wearing them with Sox, and after about 2 climbing sessions they felt right, and the fight is absolutely wonderful. They are very snug in most places, and actually I do have a little bit of of space that develops after about an hour of climbing after my feet start sweating, which for me I actually am grateful for. They still fit exactly as I’d like, they’re just more of a comfort fit, so if you have feet a touch in the wide side and want a very tight fit, I’d say you could go a half (EU) size down. If you have regular or narrow feet you may be able to go down one or more (EU) sizes down.I like to wear my shoes for at least an hour without taking them off when bouldering in a gym, so that could influence your sizing decision as well. Also mentioned, I did exchange the shoes twice, and the process was super simple, just a quick online chat and everything was settled just fine, although I’d warn that if you use PayPal you will have to do either a traditional send and wait exchange, or do a new purchase to expedite the process, but the Moosejaw staff were very helpful in getting the prices to match with the discounts etc.
