I was a bit worried they would be fakes because of the price but they are not. These are an absolutely outstanding pair of approach shoes! I normally wear a US 11 so that would be an EU 44.5 but I am glad I ordered the 45 because even if my feet swell at altitude or I have to wear thicker socks these are great. They are a bit loose in the heal but I have very narrow feet and it is nothing that readjusting the lacing cannot improve. The delivery was so fast as well!!’

Just bought my second pair!Comfortable, stable, grippy, and I dig the colors! Thought i'd need a second pair when i send the first to be resoled.I've work the first pair probably 100+miles so far, from scrambling granite/quartzite, long hikes, and even around the town. They've held up remarkably well.

This is my first pair of approach shoe, so take it with a grain of salt. These are exactly what I figured that they be. I fluctuate between size 10-10.5 for footwear and went with size 10.5 as they initially felt tight in the store. The leather has stretched more than I expected and whenever I need to replace these I will likely go with size 10. Colour scheme is also fun and gets lots fo comments. These also fit quite different to TX4's (which surprised me)

Bought the the TX4 R shoes last month and recently used them on a long approach and descent over rocky and loose terrain. They were immediately comfortable and confidence inspiring. I have uses trail running shoes for climbing approaches in the past, but the TX4s are far more stable and supportive. Also, I love the retro colors, the asymmetrical lacing, and especially that these TX4 Rs are designed to be resoled. In this regard, the R version seems to be a significant upgrade over the other TX4 series shoes.I initially tried on several of the other versions of the Sportiva TX series of shoes in size 44½ (US 11) which is my normal size, but they were all too short. I ended up going up one-half size (EU 45/US 11½ ). I've had these for a couple longer days out and am loving them thus far. Went up a half size from my tighter fit standard TX4's since these are a touch narrower and I wanted them to be comfy for longer hikes and swollen feet at the end of the day, but they still climb well due to the stiffer build and slightly more streamlined shape. On their second day getting worn, I had them on for 9 hours straight, led a 4 pitch .8+ in them and they preformed wonderfully and felt totally broken in by the end of the day. Still comfy while hiking, I prefer the diamond tread over the classic dots, and the build quality feels solid, I fully expect to get tons of mileage out of them and am hoping that finding someone to resole them wont be too hard.
I happened to be shown these in a store when trying some scarpas. They didn’t have my size so I ordered here.I have owned TX4 and never liked them. Too soft to edge (they would just roll off) or protect the front of my feet from pokey rocks on long descents. The reviews never matched my experience. I have used TX guide leather for the past two seasons. They climb great, but a long day of mountaineering in them kills my toes. Too narrow and not enough height above my toes. The laces eventually make their presence known. These TX4R are a totally different shoe… kind of a hybrid. They have the wonderful toe room and shape of the TX4, edge and climb at 90% of the ability of the TX guide, and hike pretty good (certainly not a cushy as a trail runner but better than a ... MoreI happened to be shown these in a store when trying some scarpas. The sole is not just resoleable, it’s totally different. Stiffer for edging , a bit thicker and more protective, and a better tread pattern. They are my new low 5th class mountaineering with a long hike in and out shoes.I’m a 9.5 street shoe and the 42.5 is perfect. The 42 had my first and third toe grazing the end.
i love the tx4 for mountain climbing in the summer so why not try the "R"?worn these on 4 moderate Colorado hikes and moderately happy with them.PROS:- great sole, grippy!- light and comfortable- laces stay tied pretty well- not too narrow on the forefoot- cool colorsCONS:- rubber around balls of feet is peeling away from the shoe already- sportiva kept the stupid weak laces they've had for the last 4ish years- toes are cold in them more so than the TX-4-OVERALL-stoked with them, they'll last me another 3 months or so and then it will be winter anyways.. might go back to the regular TX though, more of an all around good hiking shoe.
Used them on 20 miles of a 26 mile mountaineering trip up Mt Langley so I didn’t have to wear mountaineering boots the entire time. Switches to boots when crampons were necessary. Had numerous class 3/4 scrambling areas where the traction was superb and saved me in a few sketchy areas doing down Old Army Pass. Didn’t really have any specific pain points even after such a long climb.Style is also super cool with the retro throwback styling. Highly recommended.Only quality issue is a very minor delam on the rand in the front of one of the shoes but doesn’t seem serious enough to worry. Shoe is wide in toes but quite narrow in heel.
TLDR: A great revision of a classic approach shoe but not the same as the previous model. If you care more about feel under your foot and less about longevity and are fine blowing through a shoe in a year or so, go with the older model if you can. If you loved the old shoe but wished it had just a little more structure to last you longer, this new model is perfect.I am a longtime approach shoe fan - I have tried a ton of different types - and La Sportiva hits the mark with the TX4. This new revision is no different. They did away with the weird bulge at the ball of the foot on the outer part of the shoe that no one really knew what it was for and made edging slightly weird on that part. They also have made the shoe more eco with the easily replaceable sole. I ... MoreTLDR: A great revision of a classic approach shoe but not the same as the previous model. This new revision is no different. They did away with the weird bulge at the ball of the foot on the outer part of the shoe that no one really knew what it was for and made edging slightly weird on that part. They also have made the shoe more eco with the easily replaceable sole. I doubt anyone has had to do this yet because the shoe is so knew but it is a cool idea and being able to keep your broken-in shoe and strap new rubber on the bottom is a nice idea - let's see how well it works. One thing you should know is that the shoe does not feel the same as the previous TX4 - it feels stiffer. Whereas the previous TX4 could be worn and felt broken-in really quickly, this shoe takes more time and its base is just harder. It feels like there is more of a "plate"/base but the new rear stiff foam composite on the heel is somehow squishy and stiff all at the same time - it is really nice. That is not to say the shoe feels less comfortable but, for me at least, I think you have a bit less feel on the rock in the heel and mid-foot than before. The feel at the toe and in the climbing zone is still pretty close to the same. However, the shoe construction seems so be more bulletproof than before - at least in the base. The top part of the shoe has not changed much as the mesos system and lacing seem to be the same with the leather. The fit is still ideal for those with wider feet (maybe look at the TX Guide if you have narrower feet) and still really comfortable. I have only worn them on a couple big days out and day-to-day for a few weeks but they are broken in for me already.Still an incredible shoe but you should be aware that the feel has changed if you are looking to replace your old TX4s.
This is the standard in approach shoes. Burly and supportive enough for most missions, but not too clunky that you can't climb in it. Consider this a do-it-all. I had my last pair of TX4s for years and finally caved and got these new style ones after gluing mine together a bunch. Put a TON of miles on these and love them
