I finally broke down and bought one of these as a video scratch disk. I kept waiting for an updated version with a faster SSD, but oh well. In testing, I achieved peak speeds of ~1300MB/s write and ~2600MB/s read. Read speed isn't far off from what's advertised (2800MB/s), but write speed certainly is (2100MB/s). That's a bit of a bummer, but as read speed is more important to me, it's OK. It's also worth pointing out that the speed is very consistent. I didn't notice any big dips over repeated tests, unlike some cheaper SSDs out there.Still, with the internal SSD on my MacBook Pro peaking at over 6000MB/s, it just feels wrong to spend $1200 on an external drive that's not even half as fast. The dock functionality is nice, though.

I wanted a small footprint SSD with fast transfer rates to use as an external drive for my photo processing computer. The huge benefit of this one is that it also has slots for my most commonly used cards, which helps keep my desktop cleaner and makes transfer very speedy. I wish it was cheaper, but I can't find anything else that does what this does.
