These can sometimes be noisy on start up, likely many hard drives. I have not had either of my LaCIEs fail on me. There is the option when first using the LaCIE to use it as two separate drives, or one drive. The LaCIE software gives plenty of options when configuring the hard-drive for the first time. Transfer speed is fast. The amount of data that can be stored on these drives are phenomenal. I have not had one fail on me yet.The front light also makes the drives look like HAL9000 but blue.

The drive randomly ejects from my Macbook Pro without any warning and gives the error message that says “Disk Not Ejected Properly”There is no rhyme or reason to when the drive will mount. Sometimes it works and other times it doesn't show up in the finder at all. It will be visible in Disk Utility but doesn't allow you to do any function like repair disk etc.When the drive works is quite slow and very noisy!
