If I hold the pen as it intended to be, my holding gets less stable and I don't write as good as I want to. So I hold a little different, one finger on the indent and other on the bump itself. If youre holding your pen in weird way this may not be the best for you but otherwise I definetely recommend you try it!

My first upgrade from the platinum preppy...So far, there are tons of hard starts and skipping, but I am 99% that it is skill-issue (or possibly the black nib/nib inconsistencies associated with LAMY Safari's)Going painstakingly slow, none of these issues happen, which says to me that the Safari just has a very particular sweet-spot on the nib tip for writing, so that is something to keep in mind.My only "real" and still subjective con that I can think of, is that the tripod shaped grip isn't particularly well-suited towards Palmer Method cursive, UNLESS you take the alternative grip on putting the pen between your index & middle finger which I have been practicing.That Alt. grip also mitigates any hard starts and skipping that you may or may not experience

This is a great purchase. I personally like the broad tip the most, because I like displaying my inks to the max. This does use up ink a lot faster, tho.The pen is made of a decent plastic. It doesn't feel expensive, which I saw as an issue initially, but then I realized this pen doesn't need to feel expensive. The Lamy Safari feels like a Lamy Safari--a one of a kind, fun, reliable fountain pen. The ink window is very useful, btw.The reason for 4 stars instead of 5 is that it does not come with a converter, which I believe is essential.

I just recently decided to dive in the rabbit hole of fountain pens, ending up with this LAMY pen, 2 beginner Pilot fountain pens, and a TWSBI Eco Medium pen and Fine pen. The TWSBIs are really smooth, but I feel like they both let out way more ink that I'm expecting, and on paper that doesn't normally bleed, they put so much ink out that the ink bleeds a smidge. The Pilots are nice but not much to speak of, and they clog often. This LAMY pen is by far the best of the lot. It is consistently smooth, and with proper fountain pen ink it is reliable and hasn't clogged yet. I've always loved this pen. I think it is the best made pen overall of any I have, and I have hundreds. I usually carry about three or four pens with me at all times, and I always...ALWAYS...have a safari in my pen pack. The only thing I'm not 100% on board with is the piston adapters for the Safari. They are a little hard to turn compared to others, but I have never had one leak on me either, so I'll take it the way it is. This order was delivered in a timely fashion and arrived in perfect condition. I have yet to be disappointed with Jet Pens. I'm very happy with the color and the non shiny surface of the pen. I hope they never change it's construction. Best pens on the market.
My pen has 2-3 problems: It is never ready to write. Put it down for two minutes and it's dry and the scratchy feedback is bad and may be partly because of the dryness. It is not a wet pen. Those are problems that result in a return. But I have to say that the shape of the pen is not familiar to me. It feels like none of my other pens and I haven't been able to use it enough to get use to it. I understand it is a popular pen but I have to give my honest opinion. I won't buy another one just because I don't like the grip.
When I received my Lamy Safari pen from Blick, I was quite disappointed with it. First of all, I found it very uncomfortable to hold. The way I position my fingers to hold my pen just doesn't match up with the grooves in the pen grip. The grip texture dug into my skin. Also, I found the ink to be disagreeable. The entire experience writing with it didn't feel right.I bought this pen because of all the hype I read about it. However, I didn't like it and immediately returned it to Blick for a refund.
This is a really good deal especially with the extra ink cartridges in the various colors.I have a few other Lamy Safari fountain pens and use them for drawing as well as writing -each in a different color and one that has water soluble ink in it instead of waterproof ink.I had requested the white Lamy Safari fountain pen with a fine nib, but what they sentactually has an extra fine nib. So I was surprised when I saw how thin the lines were. Not what I ordered, but I will keep it. That is why I gave it 4 stars instead of 5. Otherwise, a great pen set and a very good value. I think they need to change the description from "fine nib" to "extra fine nib" - which is indicated by ef on the nib itself.

I bought the extra-fine, which is a nice width, but I also like that you can use it upside-down to get an even finer line. Of course, the grip changes when it's upside-down, but it's not bothersome to me.The only thing I didn't care for right out of the box was a sharp edge along the cap. Since I use the pen posted, that sharp edge rubbed in the fleshy part of my hand. I took some fine sandpaper and sanded it down just a smidge to round it off. Since the plastic is the same color throughout, you can't even tell it was sanded, and now, it feels perfect! Now, for reference, I own a very high end Mont Blanc and mid-range Sheaffer Targa and a couple of Parker 75s, all of which are beautiful writers. But, as delightful as they all are, I do not recall any of them giving me such a warm and fuzzy feeling on the very first contact with paper. Writing with the Safari is like writing with butter! Do not get me wrong, I prefer a pretty standard mid-size girth and love the feel of the Safari. This was just an observation. I especially love the clip design. I am retired and long-sleeve t-shirts are pretty much my daily "uniform". With no pocket, I have to clip my pen in the neck of my t-shirt. Some clips are difficult to get clipped on and some, especially Parker's "arrow" clips can be a hassle to get off because the "barbs" on the arrowheads get caught. The nice wide, rounded Safari clip slips right on and off while still maintaining a snug, secure grip. I like the first Safari so much I ordered one of the special addition (from a few years ago) violets plus a few nibs for my daughter who likes fountain pens also and wants to play around with calligraphy. Then I was jealous so I ordered a one of the Mangos from that special edition class so we can swap caps and bodies now and then to have LSU purple and gold pens!
