Laphroaig 10 Year Old Single Malt Scotch Whisky (700ml)

Laphroaig is the world’s most richly flavoured Scotch Whisky, providing the most distinctive and rewarding malt whisky experience. Founded in 1815, it is one of only a few distilleries that still uses traditional malting floors, anddries and infuses its own malt with the thick blue smoke from old peat-fired kilns. Laphroaig 10 Year Old has been distilled the same way for 75 years. The distilleries malted barley is dried over an Islay peat fire where it gets its particularly rich flavour. It’s taste is first bold and smoky, followed by a hint of seaweed and a surprising sweetness. This full-bodied variant is the foundation of all Laphroaig expressions and comes with a long finish.

I was introduced to Laphroaig 10 by a friend while we were enjoying a cigar together. Since then, It has been my everyday scotch that I relax with. I serve it to my guests and my friends on occasion. I love the smoothness and the peaty flavor that explodes so gently upon the finish. Laphroaig has opened me to a whole new world os scotches. I am exploring many others that is offered.

Initial Skepticism

I first tried Laphroaig ten years ago. I felt as though my money had been squandered. Although the first glad was difficult, the finale was extremely long and made me think of campfires. My second drink really hooked me. It smells like a campfire and is somewhat smokey. It has a little amount of sweetness and bite. I'll be purchasing a lot more of these bottles.

It's Okay, But...

An Islay malt, but it's not even close to being as wonderful as their triple wood or double cask versions—it doesn't have the same vanilla or oak flavors. I won't pick this option again. Additionally, the app indicates that it is $2 less expensive than in-store. In a pinch, I might repurchase the Laphroiag double cask, but not this.

My favorite producer in Islay
28 February 2021

My first wee dram of Islay whisky was Laphroiag 10 & I fell in love. Strong peaty/smoky flavor, which I happen to love. Been to Scotland years ago, but never got to Islay. To me, it tastes like Scotland in a bottle & brought back fond memories. Both my boyfriend and best friends loved it when I poured them a dram, but most people would probably find it too strongly peaty and redolent of iodine. Those are what I love the most about it though. I'm currently drinking their 10 year aged in multiple casks & it's a bit smoother. I'm also inordinately fond of Bruichladdish's Port Charlotte 10. Neither is everybody's taste. It's definitely mine.

Never fails to satisfy

I drink scotch of various varieties, but this is one of my favorites. It never lets you down. The fact that it is not only peated—well, peated—but also slightly salty and sweet is great. You anticipate the following sip as it lingers and coating your mouth. An excellent dram for peat aficionados!

Not Suitable for the Weak of Heart
22 March 2023

The nose and palate are punched hard, strong, and smoky. This whisky is not for you if you favor smooth, mild spirits. This one compares like drinking a forest fire if Talisker is like drinking a campfire. Although it is not hot, it is filled with a deep, rich smoke. My favorite.

Optimum single malt under $80
22 March 2023

This is truly excellent work. Most people I talk to seem to either love it or hate it, but you should test anything that can elicit such a strong reaction from people. my meager opinion. After tasting this whisky for the first time, it is powerful and smokey (in an odd way, it reminds ME of chipotle peppers). It has an almost salty quality (the professional tasters compare it to the ocean, in my opinion), but as you sample more of it, more flavors emerge. For instance, I'm very certain the finish has a minty flavor. Nevertheless, if you haven't done this, you should. You will, at the very least, have an opinion about it whether you like it or not, and I guarantee that it will be the most intriguing single malt you can get for less than $80.

Paddle Monster!
22 March 2023

I was interested in trying a very peaty scotch, and at first it reminded me of the truck-chasing dog. But over time, people have started to like this. Excellent for leisurely drinking over a chilly campfire. Be warned—a it's 12 on the peat scale of 1–10, but if you give it time and allow it to breathe in the glass, it becomes something very wonderful.

The ideal item to add to any Scotch enthusiast's booze collection. Laphroaig, it's got a tale to tell every time. Enjoy!

Even the entry-level Laphroaig 10 yr is fantastic. I recommend Glenlivet 12yr 1st to people who are new to scotch because it tends to be smooth and mild. I follow that by offering them Laphroaig 10yr and saying, "Now sample a true single malt Scotch that has a narrative to tell." I always pour neatly and generously. never include ice. Why dilute something lovely? While some may initially be taken aback by the strong peat and smokey flavor, their eyes expand wide, with a smirk then a smile...

Visit Islay, please.

At least in my opinion, this is the best inexpensive scotch available. If you dislike peat, this scotch won't be for you because of the heavy smoke and peat flavor. The rich flavors always change from the first sip to the last. It is bold but surprisingly smooth. There is a medicinal taste (but believe me, it works), which is followed by salt water, a bonfire, and then something else. Basically how a scotch should taste...
