Laphroaig is a whiskey distillery on the Scottish Hebridean island of Islay. The tradition of whiskey production has been passed on by the distillery managers since the first drop rolled out of the still in 1815. The Kilbride Stream, hand-cut peat, malted barley, cold-smoking ovens, Mash tuns, copper alchemy and the delicacy of oak aging, each phase is essential to the creation of the most aromatic of all Scotch whiskeys. Four different barrels are hand selected: former bourbon barrels, smaller quarter barrels, new barrels made from American oak and larger Oxhoft barrels made from European oak. This complex combination creates a creamy, golden peat-smoked Islay malt with the warm aroma of toasted vanilla. Four Oak is an extraordinary fusion of different aromas, including the delicate notes of sandalwood, pine, fir and willow. A great malt from the coast of the great ocean. Peat-smoked Islay malt rises into the nose, combined with gentle pine resin, warm autumn fruits and multi-layered oak. Smoked stone fruit and dried figs are perceived on the palate, slowly turning into creamy peat embers. In the finish you can clearly see vanilla, tobacco smoke, spicy grapevines and salty liquorice.
