I've used this as my EDC for the past two years and by and large it's a great multitool. Ergonomically it's difficult to beat and having access to every tool without having to open the pliers has spoiled me from other tools. Unfortunately, the screwdriver design is very flawed, which is a bummer as it is the main tool I use on a daily basis. I've lost count at the stripped screws the free has caused and the design choice to combine with the bottle opener means it often can't fit into tight areas. I switched back to my old wave for a few days and it's night and day, with the wave being a much more effective driver than the free. I'm about to stop using it, but if Leatherman ever releases an improved driver I would be back in a heartbeat.

I had one of these for several months but it went missing on a fishing trip. I love the fact that this tool is 100% one handed. However, the tool set is seriously flawed.1. The file is so short it’s useless. Toss the scissors and put a full length file with rough, diamond, and hacksaw capabilities.2. The ruler should be stamped in the frame of the tool. A short ruler on the back of the overly short file is of no use3. The package opener should have a chisel on the tip4. This tool should have a bit driver at this price point. There is no reason why Leatherman couldn’t put one on if YouTubers are able to figure out how to do it.5. The knife blades should be at least 154CM on a $140 multitool.6. I do plan to get another though because completely one handed tool access is a must sometimes at my job. All that being said, the build quality, ease of use, and comfort of the P4 is absolutely excellent.

Quite simply, I feel this is the best multi-tool available. I demand all-locking tools, and tools accessible without opening the pliers. The P4 fits the bill perfectly. I've only had it for a few weeks and have used it many times. I've had the original Buck Tool, and the second version, the first was great but the locking mechanism wore out to the point it was dangerous to use, Buck replaced for free with the second version, which eventually corroded to the point of being useless. I've had a few Gerber's and others that just fall short in quality. My only complaint with the P4 is not having a horizontal carry option from Leatherman. I purchased a nicely hand-made leather one from Etsy, and now all is good!

My dad worked for BPA back in the 80s and 90s and used to receive Leatherman multi-tools as service awards back when they were still a very new brand. They were amazingly nice multi-tools, but none of the ones that I bought for myself over the years were the same quality as the ones he had. At some point, I realized that this was because I was purchasing the cheap models from places like Costco. I decided to take the plunge and buy one of their higher-end models, and I was not disappointed.I decided on this specific model because it was recommended by a couple of people I know who are into bushcraft. Unlike most other models, the two halves are held closed magnetically, which allows it to have a looser, smoother action once that magnetic force is overcome. I've seen people flip open the pliers one-handed like a butterfly knife, though I haven't been brave enough to try that myself. All of the blades on this have a small tab or notch at the end that you can easily catch with your thumbnail to open them one-handed. The blades all lock when fully open, but there are releases on both faces of both handles that can be operated with your thumb while simultaneously using your fingers to close the blade -- once again, a one-handed action. Incidentally, the release is on the outside of the handle relative to where the blade is closing, so there's little to no risk of cutting your thumb while doing this. It's worth noting as well that all of the blades are located on the _outside_ when the pliers are closed. This was exactly what I wanted, since the blades on some of less-expensive models can only be opened after the pliers have been opened. (The means that you have to open the pliers, open the blade, and then close the pliers to have the blade in a usable position on those cheaper Leathermans). As far as the tools are concerned, it has all of the things that I always used to find myself wishing I had on hand when I would carry just a pocket knife -- pliers, wire cutters, scissors, bottle opener, Phillips and flathead screwdrivers, file, etc. It has several other tools including a small saw, a package opener, and a ruler that I haven't really made use of, but since this is not a particularly bulky multitool, I'm happy that they're included.I bought this mainly to carry around in the glove compartment of my car, and I've used it so much that I decided to buy another for my wife's car, and one for my truck. I might consider purchasing even more of these in the future as a gifts for certain friends or family, though at this price point it would be a fairly nice gift.If you're looking for a high-quality multitool, especially something that can be used one-handed (with a little practice), this is the tool for you! The price may seem a little steep at first, but the level of quality truly delivers.
Made from really excellent materials it should be a long-lasting tool, but has a few drawbacks...The pliers are not sprung, which defeats the object of rounding off and smoothing the outside edges to save your hands, as you have to scrape the outside of your fingers to keep re-opening the pliers whilst in use. They're quite stiff, so even after a short time of pushing them back open left the tops of my fingers sore. The demonstrated "one hand" opening is a bit of a stretch too, I can just about open the knife blade because it protrudes slightly further out than the rest...which you'll notice when it scrapes the backs of your fingers when re-opening those pliers. The wire stripper, (something I was looking forward to having), is completely useless, a wasted space ... MoreMade from really excellent materials it should be a long-lasting tool, but has a few drawbacks...The pliers are not sprung, which defeats the object of rounding off and smoothing the outside edges to save your hands, as you have to scrape the outside of your fingers to keep re-opening the pliers whilst in use. Can't see the point of this, they're stiff enough to stay together anyway. As to accessing the inner tools, you can't, you have to open all the outside tools first, which means you're perilously close to the opened blades whilst you're fiddling out the inner tools. This order came with a free sharpening stone and oil pot. Kinda surprised at this too, I mean who uses oil stones these days? Used to use them a lot about 40 years ago but water stones or Diamond are far superior and the grits on the supplied stone are way too coarse to get a decent polished edge. The "engraving" on the blade is not, strictly speaking, actually engraving, it's laser etching...Overall...it's okay...but I was expecting to be blown away by a famous Leatherman and quite frankly, I'm not...and I can't return it either because I had it engraved...I suggest you only buy one of these once you've handled it in person, never put your trust in a maker's name...wooddragon45
I love this multi-tool. It is based on a new platform and it is quite refined. Love that you can access all the tools without opening the pliers. And the pliers is so smooth. My only complaint is the selection of tools Leatherman has chosen to include. This model really needs to have bit holder to make it more complete. I look forward to seeing what Leatherman will do with this new platform as they innovate. The Free platform puts Leatherman way ahead of their competitors and may even replace the Wave + as the most popular one day!
I've had this since March and it's been my constant companion since unboxing it. It's either in my pocket, on my belt, or in my day bag. I use it nearly everyday, especially when DIY'ing around the house on weekends. I love the one-hand opening and the pliers are fantastic, as are the wire cutters. The ease of getting to the tools is great too; as well as the locking mechanism. Some of the tools are a bit of a mystery to me but, I'll find uses for them, I'm sure! My only complaint is the weight, it's pretty hefty, but the smoothness of the handles and the action make up for that, I think. I love it being part of my daily EDC and highly recommend it.
Guys I don’t have much to say about this tool other than that it is truly a superb Multitool. The hollow ground, thin behind the edge main blade is really a charm. Were this Multitool to come with 154CM or S30V blade and perhaps a bit holder as on wave/Charge series, it would probably be truly the best Multitool of all time, beating my personal no.1 Charge TTI.That being said, this is close second to the TTI and I think that whichever you choose to be your MT, you can be sure you made of the best choices of your life.Leatherman team - if anyone reads this, Thank you, your innovation and pursuit of quality makes you one of the best brands in the whole world. Your customer service is also just marvellous. Please don’t ever change!
I cannot overstate how well constructed, how finely engineered this tool is. It reminds me more of a Victorinox than of a classic Leatherman, quite frankly, and that is a massive compliment. Everything about it is precision. All tools open smoothly, easily; this is truly the multi tool for the 2020s. So much one-handed functionality! No more broken fingernails! Do yourself a favor and get this one. This is a refinement on the old-school multi tool. And, for what it's worth, all tools here work splendidly.
I have carried a Leatherman wave as my EDC for nearly 20 years and love having the versatility on my belt. I have decided to recently upgrade to the P4 as I liked the features it presented.I’ve only been carrying the P4 for a month now but I have already found some annoying features that interrupt my one-handed use. My biggest complaint is that they swapped the serrated blade and the saw. You can no longer open the serrated blade one handed anymore my turning over the tool. Also due to the design you cannot swap the two around. This to me has become a major flaw. The file has become substantially smaller and no longer has a diamond edge or side to it. Or I am just an old dog.
