Great multi-function pocketknife, easy to carry. I use it for various tasks around the house all the time. The box cutter and Phillips/bottle opener combo are fantastic. My only complaints: I wish one side of the file was a diamond or nail file; the knife is becoming more difficult to open after a year or so of use; and the large flathead screwdriver tends to slip if I'm not careful because of the rounded edges. I find the handle a little awkward sometimes and would probably prefer a larger version of this, like the K series, but this smaller size gives me most of the functions I need without running afoul of city knife regulations.

I have owned the original Leatherman Multi Tool for well over thirty years and still working as when I first got it. This one is as good or even better than the original. The design is incredible, the tools are the best quality with just the ones needed the most. The pocket clip is outstanding and very comfortable. Like it so much I gifted one to my son and he is impressed with the quality and tools in it. Best part, is made in the good old U.S.A. Please keep up the excellent job you all do.

I bought my Free T4 when it first came out in 2019 and have since been carrying it every day for about a year. I can say that I'm thoroughly impressed. The T4 has replacred my fancy pocket knife (non-multitool, knife only) from another company and I can say that it has filled the void and then some. The knife is a solid performer, the 420HC sharpens easily and the blade locks up well with the magnetic locks. As with all my other Leathermans, I've used each and every tool on the T4 and they all function great, so I won't waste time rehasing them all in this review. The only differences/drawbacks: I use the "package opener" (medium screwdriver/pry tool) as more of a scraping tool than package opener (if I want to open packages, I'll use the knife). The only differences/drawbacks: I use the "package opener" (medium screwdriver/pry tool) as more of a scraping tool than package opener (if I want to open packages, I'll use the knife). For example, I had to scrape a bunch of old caulking off of a shower while at work in the fire station, and this worked perfectly. In other words, the scraper/pry tool/package opener/screwdriver seems to be the multi-purpose tool of the T4. The tweezers are a great addition. and are nice to have when you need to pull a splinter out of your kid's hand on the playground. The size, fit and finish have been great. As the T4 is about twice as thick (0.69") as my previous EDC knife, I was a little curious as to how this would carry both on and off duty in my job as a firefighter/paramedic. After carrying it for a year, I can say that the size while carrying it in my pocket has been absolutely fine and the thickness is not an issue. It rides in the pocket well, with the pocket clip providing a "deep carry" feel to it.As far as fit and finish are concerned, everything is great. All tools lock up nicely with very little to no wiggle. Tools and the knife were a little difficult to open one handed at first, but broke in nicely and I'm now able to open everything with one hand. Lastly the finish: The metal scales give the T4 a classy, elegant look.To summarize, I love all the Leatherman multitools I own and wouldn't be caught without one. My favorite, sentimental, full-size Charge TTi is fantastic, and I carry it everyday on my belt at work while in it's sheath. The Free T4 gives me many of the tools I would use on my full size multitool, albeit minus the famous pliers, in an easy to carry and elegant pocket knife package.

I very much agree with the other reviews here - very handy multi-tool with innovative design. I love how most of the tools are kept closed via magnets, which also provides (unintentionally?) excellent fidget factor. Being able to access most of the tools with one hand is very, er, handy, but I find the blade to be very difficult to open without using both hands (can easily close it with one hand, though).Blue scales look very nice (plain stainless steel is too boring to me). Deal would be sweetened if the overall package was a little thinner/lighter (doesn't just slide into most pockets), but that's just splitting hairs. Don't regret this purchase at all!
Not long ago I was searching for a multitool similar to a Swiss Army Knife (SAK) for which I had wanted to replace.I discovered Leatherman's website and found the Free T4 and I immediately ordered it.What made me interested in this Free T4 multitool was the ease of opening the tools attached. It does not disappoint. I use it for opening packages, clamshell packages, prying open difficult items, use the scissors when necessary, etc. At least, even though this Free T4 is heavy and not meant as a keychain carry, it beats the nail nick found on my SAK. With the Leatherman Free T4, one needn't worry about nicking any nails here. All in all, very pleased and a great multitool to have on one's person.
I've had my Free T4 for about a year before it decided to jump ship from my pocket. I use this multi tool every day at work, or on the road. It's super handy to have on hand when I'm in the middle of something and need a knife or a screwdriver, or even tweezers. The magnet closures are pretty good and are easy to open and close, I always have trouble with traditional pry sets destroying my brittle nails.Overall, I've been very pleased with it and am purchasing another to replace the one that has vanished on me. My only word of warning is to watch it if you are wearing dress pants/thinner material pants as it tends to want to escape them if you are say, sitting in a booth at a restaurant. Handy little set, eager to get my new one!
I like this knife-based multitool quite a bit. All of the implements (except the tweezers) are accessible with one hand and are locking. I'm impressed by how leatherman was able to do this. This is the most innovation we've seen in this space in a long time. Its has a good set of implements for basic daily EDC. The build quality is solid, there's no play on any of the tools. The knife is laser sharp, and I like the hollow grind for a small EDC blade like this. The phillips driver is totally fine, its a true 3D driver. But the real game changer here is the pocket clip. I wish SAKs had pocket clips. My only complaints are that the blade is a bit tricky to open one handed, you have to get used to it, and its the same weight as a deluxe tinker but it has less tools, ... But overall highly recommended.
I got the Green T4, and i am extremely happy with it. The fit and finish were excellent. One mod i made was to make the blade a clip point, grinding from the existing tip in a straight line to about an inch and a half back,... just personal preference. Also, the pocket clip is probably great for most people, but not for me at the width the T4 has, so i removed it. Speaking of width, if there was a variant without the two thick inner tools(Phillips/Bottle Opener, and Flathead/Package Opener), i would definitely get one, and i bet it would be popular with other people, too, and then the clip would make more sense. Another suggestion would be a different blade steel, like 154CM,... those changes would make an already great tool into a freaking gem.
I was looking for a SAK with a locking blade for light use, mostly weekend carry, and only found a few offerings, none of which checked all my boxes . Thankfully I thought to look to Leatherman website and stumbled on the Free T4. It is about the same size as the SAK I used to carry on the weekends, BUT...all the folding tools lock! The scissors, Phillips, metal file, etc. And it has a tweezer, which I've used for years (on my SAK) to pull splinters. The size is perfect for jeans pockets...it doesn't get in the way. The removable belt clip is a nice touch, allowing additional carry options. It's exciting to see such a well designed and built product, that's also built in the USA.
This is my fourth actively used Leatherman tool. I find the T4 to set a new reference standard over previous Letterman tools; thus, all tools as I find Leatherman the best out of all of them. I also use the Surge for heavy duty tasks but carry it only in anticipation of those tasks. On the opposite end of the scale, I used the micro for ever on my key chain, mostly for its scissors and knife. I recently purchased a Knife-Less Rebar (I also provided a review on that outstanding tool) for every day use but was intrigued by the T4. The T4 is also OUTSTANDING: extremely robust and exceptionally easy to use, in particular, I like how one uses their thumb to pivot the accessories in use (instead of one's finger nails), and how each is locked in place - and easily unlocked ... On the opposite end of the scale, I used the micro for ever on my key chain, mostly for its scissors and knife. I recently purchased a Knife-Less Rebar (I also provided a review on that outstanding tool) for every day use but was intrigued by the T4. The T4 is also OUTSTANDING: extremely robust and exceptionally easy to use, in particular, I like how one uses their thumb to pivot the accessories in use (instead of one's finger nails), and how each is locked in place - and easily unlocked by deliberate use of the unlocking mechanism that will not inadvertently/unintentionally unlock the feature in use. Compared to some complaints in the past on accessory clips, the one included with the T4 is particularly robust. The knife on the T4 will likely pass through security given its reduced length; the knife is extremely robust (I touched it up with a ceramic stone: it took awhile to accomplish an extremely sharp edge which gives praise to the knife's hardness). The T4 I find too thick and heavy for wearing at the bottom of slacks (I would also not so in the front pocket of any pants), but the robust clip will allow the T4 to comfortably and reasonably secure itself to the top seam of a pocket on any medium to heavy wear pants (still too heavy for business slacks). So, I'm finding that it resides on my person all the time other than in formal attire, and the Rebar is always maintained in a man-purse often but not always carried. Last, I was concerned that the textured covering would be somewhat easily dented - it is very robust and provides for a more secure and comfortable grip. I such given the above, I find the T4 to be one of Leatherman's best technical achievements. I'm so glad curiosity brought me to it.
