Like all Leatherman products, this is another sturdy, well-made tool. I bought this to complement the Wingman which I have carried daily for about 5 years. (And which is still holding up just as well as day I got it.) The Sidekick has a slight change in the tool set, most notably it has a small saw blade instead of the Wingman's scissors. The knife blades are also a bit different. I got this Sidekick as I moved to a more rural area, and the saw blade will come in handy for cleaning up loose branches and deadwood on occasion. Note that Leatherman products also come with a 25 year warranty and are made in the USA. The sheath is also a nice bonus, although the pocket clip is also very good on these tools. You really can't go wrong with these - scope out what you want ... MoreLike all Leatherman products, this is another sturdy, well-made tool. As a homeowner and a dad you need one of these. Loose doorknob? Kids toy out of batteries? Phillips screwdriver right there in your pocket. New package arrived? Conventient external knife blade. No need to open the pliers to get to the blade. The whole package is no bigger than some pocket knives. Easy to carry every day. 0 issues after 5 years. I bought 3 more to give as gifts.

This tool is more useful to me than a cell phone. This is my second one. Lost the first one my son gave me while unclogging a hay baler. Must have left it on the ground. Probably in a round bale somewhere in the barn. Thought I could do without it but couldn’t get by without it. Use it every day numerous times.

This is not the first Leatherman product that I have bought. This is going to be a present for my son-in-law. I was debating between the sidekick and wingman models. I went with the sidekick as it has a saw blade vs a scissor on the wingman. I bought it for my son-in-law's camping trips and felt that the saw blade will be more useful.
Good weight, good components. Even the plier tool words as combination pliers, long-nose plyers, snips and wire strippers. The clip works great, thing's got a good heft, saw's perfectly fine for its size in terms of some quick cuts in pine. If I could change anything, I'd love a multi-bit driver, but for the price point, I couldn't be happier. I've owned knock-offs all my life, but this thing makes it clear to me that genuine leatherman is in a league of its own.
This Leatherman Sidekick has been my EDC for five plus years and while it might not be used everyday I don't leave home without it. No matter the occasion or what I'm wearing from a suit to casual jeans I'll find a place or pocket for it. Its rather aggressive belt clip provides a secure fastening point for belt, pocket or boot. When purchased my Sidekick also included a Carabiner and a tough as nails Nylon type belt sheath which provides more carrying options. Within the Sidekick tools is a lanyard ring that neatly tucks out of the way when not in use. I personally do not use the lanyard ring directly with the Carabiner instead I affix a stainless steal chain to the Carabiner socket hole and to the lanyard ring. The non serrated blade can be deployed without ... Within the Sidekick tools is a lanyard ring that neatly tucks out of the way when not in use. I personally do not use the lanyard ring directly with the Carabiner instead I affix a stainless steal chain to the Carabiner socket hole and to the lanyard ring. The non serrated blade can be deployed without opening up the tool although it took me some practise I can now open it in one hand and using my thumb. It's a tight fit and the blade is Holly Mother sharp, closing can be done resting the tool in the palm of your hand use your thumb nail to unlock the blade and index finger to close it. The saw blade is wicked aggressive and opens and locks the same way as the blade. I didn't "think" I'd have much use for the saw but have since changed my mind after it's tackled pretty much everything from drywall to plastic conduit ;-)Opening the Sidekick and folding out the spring loaded needle nose pliers this tool really comes into it's own and the most used of all the tools, I've cut copper wire, stripped insulator off of braided wire, crimped insulator connectors and a whole host of other "light" duty chores. To me the pliers are the most indispensable of tools for my Sidekick. Looking further into the cluster of tools neatly encased within the handle are sturdy screw drivers serrated knife, file (I've used this to file a broken fingernail) which has a ruler on the opposite side and a can/bottle opener. These tools nestled in the handles don't actually have a line lock the need to be deployed using a thumbnail and the tool closed up leaving the selected tool for example the Phillips screw driver bit extended from the Sidekick handle it's as ridged and secure as a normal stubby screwdriver same goes for the other tools in the cluster. Yeah, nice tool, looks good, feels good in your hand AND I've snuck it in the dishwasher a few times and then wiped it down with light machine oil.
I love this tool, it has everything I want and I own 4 other Leatherman multitools. I was very interested in the Leatherman P2 with the outside one handed tool access however the serrated blade was an absolute deal breaker. The Sidekick is what filled this void for me personally. I've used every tool on this side kick 100's of times pushing it I think beyond it's limits prying, screwing, squeezing and cutting. The 420 blade holds a decent edge and is easy to sharpen and the saw works as well as a small saw should. My only gripe is the wire cutters don't quite meet in the middle and I really thought I'd have an issue cutting stranded wire but this hasn't been the case with hundreds of wires.
The handles are too wide apart when opened and squeezed and they are even farther apart when turning a larger screw (for example). There is no traction on the handles and my hand just slides down towards the pliers head. When your hands are sweaty, forget about using this thing. Not good. Not a well thought out design. The assortment of components inside is ok but the handles prevent this multitool pliers to be of any serious use. The price has doubled also. Not worth it. Gerber mp600 is much better.
Have had this multi-tool and carried it everyday for I would say 5+ years. The sidekick is extremely durable and after all this time is only lightly scratched, it still functions exactly as it should and I can still get the knife to nearly razor sharp. Having the knife be accessible without opening the multi-tool is the only reason I could carry this everyday as I do, for me that is a make or break feature. The knife and the pliers get used a lot, whether at work or home. The bottle opener sure see's some use on the weekends as well. The file and screwdrivers can come in handy at times and I have used them infrequently, the saw however I could go without, I honestly don't think I've ever needed it. I love that the knife doesn't have a serrated blade, however there is a serrated blade inside if it is ever needed (I rarely need a serrated blade, they drive me nuts.) My only major complaint on the tool is the wire cutters.. THEY'RE TERRIBLE, in fact the reason I'm writing this review is because I came onto the website thinking about purchasing a set with a better wire cutter. The wire cutters are not sharp, they don't even actually contact each other, they may work great for cutting home wiring or something, but when I wan't to quickly cut stranded wire at work, or fishing line on the weekend they just don't get the job done. Other than that they are awesome and will truly last the test of time, I could easily see myself carrying these for another 5-10 years with no issues. Leatherman is quality at it's best and the only brand multi-tool I will ever buy.
This replaced by ancient, original Leatherman which is still fine, except the tip of the knife blade snapped off. Good features of this new model = the knife and one other blade can be opened without opening the entire unit; both of these blades lock open = much safer; there is a small catch to keep the pliers open. On the downside, tools other than the knives are harder to open than on the original Leatherman.
