I’m a huge Lego fan. They make great products, and I’ll continue to get more.As someone who’s done a bunch of sets before, I found this design fell short. There are a few places where it seems the design team “got cute” with the available blocks and just made something more complicated than necessary that’s really hard to build. It was very hard to fit the pieces together in some areas (e.g., had to remove a smooth one-square block to install the foot; otherwise, it couldn’t be done).I was also missing a few pieces, which didn’t make the experience any more enjoyable. Luckily, I was able to pull miscellaneous pieces from other sets to make it work.Happy with the final product, but expect more from Lego on an item like this.

The box looks great and really should be kept and not recycled as it complements the completed build. The completed build can be displayed in a lot of places around your residence and will without a doubt look good wherever it goes.Please note, this is a display model, so if you're looking for a lot of playability, this probably isn't the set for you.My only complaint with this set is the face of Lady Liberty... all of this work went into this fantastic set and frankly the face was a disappointment. Other than that, this set is fantastic and I think it will be purchased by not only collectors and fans of LEGO, but also by those who simply want to pay homage to what Lady Liberty represents.Overall, I strongly recommend this set and I think you'll be pleased.If you found my review helpful, please let me know below. I ended up in the Lego store right after the holiday, saw it built and decided to buy it. I am glad I did. All of the pieces make the build very detailed and beautiful, and the cost worth it. The set also fits in nicely with the other architecture sets. I read some of the reviews prior to starting the build, and am glad I did. As mentioned, one of the best suggestions is in the later bags the curved green pieces are split between two bags. They are spilt by the way they "point", so it will reduce the risk of headaches and mistakes if you keep them separate.

Total win.PROS: Lovely guidebook. Satisfying build. Beautiful elegant display piece. The black boxes line up nicely on a shelf. Very elegant. Made for adults.CONS: The lovely guidebook will generally not lay flat. If it does lay flat, it is prone to falling apart.CAVEAT: Sometimes reviewers complain that they are missing pieces. While this does happen, it is extremely rare. In the case of the architectural sets in particular, it is tempting to just dump out all of the pieces into the box they came in and work from there. The problem with that approach is that the interior of the boxes are an elegant black and some of the pieces are also black, making them extremely difficult to spot. Every time I thought I was missing a piece, it was there, cleverly camouflaged.

There are many curved wedge pieces used in this set. One slants one way and one slants the other (mirror image). It was very cumbersome to keep picking the piece up and realizing I needed the OTHER piece. The 3D view in the instructions of these pieces still makes it difficult to distinguish between the two, so be careful. My set appeared to be missing two small pieces, which I have ordered for replacement. Both the pedestal and the statue were fun to build and I enjoyed watching them take shape. Adding the blank plate to represent the face felt dissappointing and is almost a discredit to the hard work and dedication the Lego designers must have taken to bring this set to life. Thankfully all the pieces required to adjust the shape to something a little more in keeping with the rest of the build are provided as spares or by making some small adjutments to the build.The instruction manual was also very well presented and provided a wealth of historical information and did you know moments about the build that help you learn more about the Statue of Liberty itself. The overall engineering of the piece is second to none. There are hidden Technic elements that firmly tie the statue to the base, and the way the flowing robe and arm pieces are constructed and attached are simply ingenious. Bit of helpful advice, inside bag 5 where all the "skin" elements are, the curved pieces that have definite left and right elements are in separate inner bags, so a little care in opening the bags into separate piles will save you many minutes of double and triple checking pieces (you'll see what I mean when I get there). Overall, this is a fantastic set, is wonderfully large, but Lego should have produced an all new piece for the face element, pre-printed a face on the "home plate" piece that is provided, or given us a rotten sticker at the very, very least. The lack of the iconic face in stark contrast to the detail in the rest of the model leaves the whole thing looking unfinished.
I bought this for my husband as a Christmas present. He really enjoyed making it. He has some arthritis in his hands and he finds these Lego kits help his flexibility and fun to make without being too fiddly. Would recommend as a great alternative to the same old jigsaws. And we can keep it on display.
