Purchased this as a Christmas gift for my 9yo son. We searched everywhere for it but it wasnt available. We found it on EBay. It was in brand new condition. It arrived quickly. Our son loved it so much. Its an amazing Lego set with great detail. We cant wait to float it in our pool this summer. Thank you for an amazing purchase!

The Ocean Exploration Ship is a great Lego set that can keep kids (or even the adult Lego enthusiast) entertained for hours on end. We really enjoy all the different components. There is a crane that works which is cool to be able to have the tactile/functional experience. It is also cool to be able to have a kid play with the submarine and the helicopter while a Lego shark swims nearby a pirate ship as a lego explorer goes into a shark cage. This is such a creative and detailed Lego set.The instructions seem detailed enough. They also have an app but we don't use that yet. This seems like a great gift for the future marine biologist or treasure hunter to get them away from screen time and get that imagination in gear. I am a fan of the Lego brand, too.

The boat is amazing and floats great. The shark cage doesn't sink unless you take the scuba equipment off the person in it as it traps too much air even with much trying to fill it with water. But cage can also be weighted down by more lego blocks at the bottom. Overall me and my daughter love the set and it provides us with hours of fun in and out of bath! :-)

There were only about 8 different stickers, most of them optional. I left off the yellow stripes on the hull. The pirate ship wreck is a really nice addition, you could stick it to the bottom of the bathtub with some blu-tack if you wanted! I also love the new shark design, as it can fit a whole minifigure inside, and you get a stingray too.The main vessel is not particularly challenging to build, although it is a lot of fun to see how the 3 different decks come together. You have the lab and mess area on the bottom, then the accommodation in the middle, and the bridge at the top. It’s very clever how the different decks can pop off easily, and if you prefer, you can have the bridge facing the other way (as all the vessels I’ve worked on have it). There are doors at the rear of the bridge, as well as hatches at the top to access the minifigures inside. It’s a sturdy construction when put together - the two floating base pieces seem well connected. I haven’t really stress-tested it, but you can hold one end of it without the front falling off ;)By far the trickiest (but best) part of the build is the main crane. The only part I had to re-do was the winch cable, but once I figured out how to hide the excess cable it looked great - no loose ends. The range of motion the main crane has is very impressive - it can slide fore and aft, rotate 360 degrees, and the arm can raise and lower using a worm gear system. The winch is controlled from the top of the arm, the arm itself from the base.There is actually a smaller crane at the aft of the vessel, which can deploy the fast rescue craft (FRC) either side of the ship, which I was delighted with. In fact, one of the best things about this set is how all the auxiliary craft have a place on the main ship, without it looking crowded. The submarine can fit in the forward hold, underneath the helipad, so it’s out of the way until the crane needs to lift it out. The helicopter sits on the pad, the shark cage can hang on the crane (or if you prefer to stow it, you’ll need a 2x2 brick from somewhere so it can attach to the deck), and the FRC sits nicely on the aft of the vessel, held there by the small crane. The FRC also floats, which is another bonus to this set!Overall it’s a terrific set as it is, however it has reminded me what I love so much about Lego - the way it can spark the imagination! I can already see things I would like to change and build differently with this set, and I can’t wait to try them out. I’d highly recommend this to just about anyone - I certainly enjoyed playing with it in the bath!
My son loves it...like obsessed! The ship itself comes in 2 pieces, you snap together and you continue to build on top. The length is 24 in. It actually floats! We had lots of fun assembling all the additional parts. We love the variety in this box: the submarine, the diver, the helicopter, and even a shark & manta ray! I also appreciate that the crew was a good mix of men and women. The detail is incredible, with a keyboard, and even mugs used to drink for the crew. I love that the crane on top can rotate. The parts are easily removable and many compartments make it fun for much longer than expected. So much fun, even for me!
I bought this as a treat for my five year old nephew. It’s quite an impressive set and definitely his favourite so far. It took the two of us three hours to build but he never grows tired of it. His three year old brother enjoys playing with it too. I would definitely recommend this ship, especially as it has come down in price. Perfect as a birthday gift and definitely worthy of Auntie Eve’s seal of approval!

However, this means that the base comes in to complete moulded pieces which allows for the lightness and air gaps needed for it to actually function on water. Whilst I appluad this from a playability point of view, from a building point of view it felt like I was cheating somehow. That said, all the little details and extra bits and bobs really elevate this set - I really loved the shipwreck piece.The ship itself has working cranes and raising and lowering the shark cage is more fun that a 50 year old should admit to having. So if you are trying to hide it definitely know the box comes marked LEGO. That box came open and their faces lit up like it was Christmas morning it was priceless. It took them 3 hours vin over the span of 3 days to put it together which it the longest I’ve seen them take but again this things massive! All of the little added details are amazing the sea creatures and the crane that actually works. There were a few things that the directions are a little small on in the book but we winged it and figured it out. The most exciting thing was when he took it to the pool and it actually floats! LEGO sets never show the scale due to the background but this boat measure 63cm (2') long but is lots of fun to build. It functions as a boat too, just don't expect to be floating it in your sink. I love this whole range in total and one thing I find interesting is it shows a balance of male and female minifigures in various roles, so both men and women are seen exploring the ocean together, captaining ships, and working on the ship.
