This is the most fun I've had building a lego set since I was a kid.Difficulty rivals the collector level sets but without the monotony of repeatedly building similar parts. Not that I don't enjoy the mega huge sets, this is just a cool best of both worlds type build. As an AFOGV (adult fan of General Veers) let's just say I've never appreciated the lack of respect given to a true hero of the Galactic Empire who fights next to his men in full armor and takes out rebel shields for Sith Lords like a boss. But it looks like we've reached the main power generator my fellow AFOGVs because this is seriously the best all around lego set in terms of price vs build experience and intergenerational fun that Ive had the pleasure of putting together in many years and it's ... MoreThis is the most fun I've had building a lego set since I was a kid.Difficulty rivals the collector level sets but without the monotony of repeatedly building similar parts. I rotate off with my 7 year old building a bag each and he is way more into this than the typical "Your Dad wants a Star Wars Lego set so act excited so he can justify this purchase" type builds we do.I would note that its not an easy build, if you're giving this as a gift I wouldn't think a kid less than 10-12 could pull this off without some assistance.

I gave the Lego AT-AT (set number 75288) FIVE stars because it's better in most capacities than the previous AT-AT--I know this because I own both--and has a much better interior, which the other one was lacking. This set is a true transport like it should be. It features five rear seats, three seats in the head, speeder doc in the back, heavy gun stash, and a cool wrench system to hoist Luke up. While I do not appreciate the price, I would be crazy not to rate it FIVE stars. Because aside from that one detail, it shines in every other aspect. I would say that maybe adding three Snowtroopers would be nice, but since there is a battle pack out I am complaining. All in all, if you have the cash, BUY IT.

This AT-AT is the best iteration of the walker there has been so far and, in my opinion, is the best LEGO Star Wars set of the year.Firstly, the minifigure selection is very solid giving you a full crew for the 'cockpit' of the walker including two pilots and General Veers as well as two additional snowtroopers that fit easily in the back of the walker. Another excellent figure included in the set is Luke Skywalker in his snowspeeder gear who has some great accessories and two expressions to choose from (one with his visor up and one with his visor down). Another thing to note is that all the troopers have different faces meaning you can have some variety in their expressions and gives each of the troopers some individuality which wasn't captured with the 'angry ... MoreThis AT-AT is the best iteration of the walker there has been so far and, in my opinion, is the best LEGO Star Wars set of the year.Firstly, the minifigure selection is very solid giving you a full crew for the 'cockpit' of the walker including two pilots and General Veers as well as two additional snowtroopers that fit easily in the back of the walker. It captures wonderfully the dimensions and details of the actual walker seen in The Empire Strikes Back and would look excellent on any desk or shelf. However if you enjoy to play with your LEGO, there are plenty of exciting features including Lukes grappling hook which he can use to climb the walker, a speeder bike which is snuggly stored in the back of the vehicle and the spring loaded shooters which can fire from the front of the walker. While being a fairly expensive set, I feel like the price is absolutely justified by the accuracy, size and detail put into it. LEGO have, once again, knocked it out of the park with another fantastic set!

Alright, so I want to address that this is not a rant. It may sound like it at some parts but I assure you that I have tested this model and thoroughly made sure I built it correctly to make sure that my review is 100% real. No, I am not biased, I just want to give lego some feedback. So onto the review. First off, the set looks great. The legs look pretty accurate other than the round plates at the top, which in my opinion should be much, bigger, the body on the outside looks accurate, and the head is pretty solid as well. The face is what people have been complaining about but I think it looks pretty accurate. They say it looks "Squinty", but beg to differ. In-universe the vehicle, surprise surprise, looks like it's squinting. Maybe a few more studs on the face ... MoreAlright, so I want to address that this is not a rant. In-universe the vehicle, surprise surprise, looks like it's squinting. Maybe a few more studs on the face but other than that, not bad. The design, however, is not so good. The legs first and foremost are extremely unstable. They fall over all the time, the panels fall off, and it is a very weak design. They should not have used those round joint pieces as they don't seem strong enough to handle the weight. Other than the legs, the panels on the side constantly fall off all the time, other than the middle ones (which still bend quite a bit when you pick it up) are weak and fall apart. The building process was needlessly difficult and was extremely annoying and things kept falling apart all the time. It was a repetitive building process which is pretty understandable. Overall my opinion is really not as high as I expected. It's not that stable and certainly isn't a 10+ set. I couldn't imagine with all the trouble I had with building the thing that a 10-year-old could do the same. For 200$ Canadian I really expected more. It's one of those sets that you build, pose, and leave on your shelf for display. Certainly not a play set in my opinion.
This lego set is a great set for those who do not want to pay for the more expensive collector’s version. It has a great amount of details and looks good on my shelf. The build experience was excellent too. I must say a downside to the set is that some of the techno bricks ussed at the joints are colorful, so you can see some of the color peaking through at the joints. I wonder why Lego designers chose to use colorfully pieces instead of realistic pieces to blend like they other sets. As far as play value, I would not recommend playtime where you want to move the legs alot. I think they would either fall off or pieces would come loose. I think it’s great as a display piece on a shelf. When asked, "What do you want for Christmas?" our grandson secretly confided that he hoped to receive Star Wars Legos for Christmas. Each day, as I went out the door, I said, "But I want to wrap and mail the gift myself. I want him to feel that the gift came from us." Each day, I returned home tired, with aching feet and a growing fear that I would not be able to find the gift our grandson so desired. Then Grampa Mike said, "You should really look online. Maybe one of your stores will have them online." I grumbled, "Why would any store have them online when their real stores are sold out?" "Just look," he said.I sat down at the computer with a hot cup of coffee, a cookie and my comfy slippers on my feet. I tried Amazon and Costco and Target, but no one had what I was looking for. Then I typed in "walmart.com." As soon as I typed in "Star Wars Legos" in the search bar, THERE THEY WERE! I heard a chuckle. I turned around to find Grampa Mike, standing behind me with his coffee mug and a half eaten cookie. "You never believe me," he said with a grin. Ordering those Legos was as easy as 1-2-3!On the FaceTime Christmas morning gift-opening, our grandson was over-joyed. Grampa Mike told my shopping spree story to the whole family. Then he said, "Here's the moral to the story: If you need something, don't shop til you drop, go to walmart.com!" Don't tell Grampa Mike, but I couldn't have said it better myself. ;)
Overall I'm glad I got this AT-AT. It's one of my and my son's favorite vehicles from the Star Wars movies and visually it's beautiful. The fact that the AT-AT falls over with the slightest breeze could be seen as funny considering its fate in Empire, but really it's just annoying and limits playability, making this more of a display piece.Pros:- If you want an AT-AT from Episode V this is the one for you. A lot of the recent AT-AT builds from other movies don't really satisfy that desire.- It's visually beautiful and does a great job of reproducing the look of the AT-AT in Lego.- The space for three minifigures in the head and other snowtroopers in the sides is nice. I was happy with the amount of figures given as well as a snowspeeder and gun.Cons:- Perhaps this is a problem with all Lego AT-ATs, but it just isn't that sturdy, it falls over way too easy, which leads to pieces breaking off. This severely limits its playability, as me and my son are hesitant to touch it in case it falls over again.- A few poor design elements. Particularly the knee caps of the AT-AT just pop off constantly, and that is frustrating. Even the legs themselves seem to slide off their mounts. Also Luke's grappling gun is pre-attached to the AT-AT, I get the reason why, but this story inconsistency makes me feel like there should be a better solution.- Not exactly a con, but the box says ages 10+, and that is probably accurate for a frustration free solo build. My son is 6 and was building the Death Star last year, but got frustrated at some of the technic pieces in the AT-AT.- I expected the AT-AT to be larger, but it comes out smaller than you'd imagine.- Price is higher than I'd expect for this many pieces, I'd think around $130 would be better.Anyway, if you want an original AT-AT this is the best option right now. But again, be aware it's more for a secured display instead of play.
The At-AT is one of my favorite vehicles in SW and I have so far managed to get all the Lego releases of the vehicle. There have been many versions...including a walking motorized one. This version though just is not great overall.PROS: The figure selection is just what would be expected and the General Veers figure is a nice update. Play wise it has some good features including internal docking for the speeder and figures...this has been improved over other versions as it is easier to access the inside now and has more seating for troopers than any previous version. There is a new feature in this version allowing you to raise and lower the harpoon with Luke. This was a nice little aspect. As always it also gets points for not having stickers as well.CONS: The ... MoreThe At-AT is one of my favorite vehicles in SW and I have so far managed to get all the Lego releases of the vehicle. As always it also gets points for not having stickers as well.CONS: The speeder bike sucks...this is hands down the worst version of the snow speeder bike. It was clearly a phoned in after thought and just terribly designed. It falls apart with basic play and completely defeats the point when previous versions were both swooshable and more accurate to the source. Then there is the "head" of the AT-AT...this is a bad version...the look is wrong and the proportiions are not right at all...it really hurts the display quality...especially side by side with previous versions. Additionally, it does not close correctly when the pilot is actually inside...I had to check a couple time to see if I built it wrong to be sure but it does not in fact close flush with the Veers figure driving. The model itself also has some stability issues...it is too fragile. Panels constantly come loose and the legs cannot really be posed and have it remain upright for displays...something done better in ALL the previous versions. Then ther is the price...this set is $.15 per part and by weight is actually less total plastic than the version we got only 5 years ago...yet lego upped the price almost a full 50%. In fact the MOTORIZED WALKING version of the AT-AT was $30 cheaper. That isn't just inflation...that is gouging your customer and its a trend this year with Lego Star Wars...
The LEGO AT-AT is a beautiful Star Wars set but it has very questionable flaws.First I want to say that the aesthetic is superb and the proportion very good especially compared to the initial AT-AT toys from the 80s. Obviously LEGO figurines are much smaller than the Star Wars figurines so it makes sense. In a way it is the first time you get the proper scale for this iconic vehicle. Plus the figurines are great. So visually it’s a 5 stars product. But there are elements that I find terrible and disappointing for LEGO standards.First it’s a very fragile design. The legs, the feet (that are smaller than the “real” ones) are not strong at all. The sides of the vehicule can break just by moving the AT-AT. The legs, the feet (that are smaller than the “real” ones) are not strong at all. The sides of the vehicule can break just by moving the AT-AT. There are two flat parts at the back of the inside meant to support the little speeder bike and they are not solid at all, a very weird design choice. The main “body” is quite heavy and the legs articulations just can’t really support it.I would mostly call it a style over substance problem. The structure is just weak and that’s a big design flaw. It looks great and that’s it. You can barely touch it and forget about having kids playing with it. I’m an adult and I’m just happy looking at it so it’s totally fine but LEGO should always put the play aspect and sturdiness first.
Overall the set LOOKS amazing, it was pretty fun to build, but there are a few flaws in both the construction overall and the instructions. As for the build itself, it could honestly use a couple extra parts. One of those would be something to use on the neck to keep the assembly from moving back and forth. There could also be some reinforcing of a couple different areas, for one, the small railing inside that the grappler line goes over. The gear for the grappler line can be difficult to turn, and there is a lot of room for improvement. You could also use a weapons rack of some sort inside, because there is no way to put all the figures inside with them holding their weapons. Heck, you can’t even close the roof of the head full when the commander is in the front ... MoreOverall the set LOOKS amazing, it was pretty fun to build, but there are a few flaws in both the construction overall and the instructions. As for the build itself, it could honestly use a couple extra parts. Heck, you can’t even close the roof of the head full when the commander is in the front with both pilots. Those are just a few examples.I just kept running into poor design issues with this one.The instructions? This is where the most trouble is.I found myself constantly questioning WHY they had you put certain parts together in the order they did, because it honestly made assembly more difficult than it needed to be.They actually had to put the legs on, go to work on the head, put the head on, then go back to work on the legs again. My opinion is that you should do the entire body and head first, do the legs (all of them), then the last step should be to attach them. You’ll thank me later.Additionally the instructions don’t actually tell you how the speeder slots into the rear of the walker. You’re just sort of left to figure it out for yourself.Like I said, the thing looks awesome, truly... but I found myself having more issues with this kit than any I’ve ever done before, and I’ve been at this a while.BTW, thanks to the LEGO VIP rewards I only paid USD $120 for this. That price is absolutely fine... but $160 seems a bit high. My guess is the licensing from Disney is part of the reason for that (it’s an issue for the entire Star Wars line honestly).
