When I found out that this was going to be a Lego set (not to mention a large one) I knew I was going to have to buy it pretty much immediately. Am I glad I did. This was such a fun set to build and as soon as I finished, I knew I would of loved to build another one. They did great on the detail and it seems to be a pretty solid build once completed (I remember back when they released the Imperial Star Destroyer for the first time, how frustrated I got when building it due to some poor design elements that they have done a good job resolving since then)Now the reason I left this as a 4 Star overall and not 5 star is for a few reasons (all are technically pretty minor reasons and wouldn't have stopped me from loving this build)1. I'm honestly disappointed in the box it came in, It could have been built a little stronger, the actual design of the box is great though.2. Provide a few 501st clone troopers! For a set as expensive as this, it is a little sad we only get 2 figurines.3. Lego- GET RID OF THE STICKERS! just print it on the Lego piece itself. it will look better and there is no real point in having stickers.Last and this is less a con and more of a potential process improvement. If a set is missing pieces or came with the wrong pieces (such as mine did) make it possible so that we can pick the pieces up from a local Lego store! the online process itself is great but it was saddening to have to wait until it arrived so I could continue the build, of which I then almost had to wait another 10 days because there was actually 2 pieces missing in mine (that being said, only missing 2 pieces is amazing in itself)I also would have loved to see what should be in each bag as I get to them since I like to lay the pieces out before I build. that is really just a personal thing though and no nock on the directions themselves.Overall it is an amazing build any any star wars lover will love this build

The Venator is a very welcome addition to the line of UCS ships for Star Wars, it is definitely due given Clone wars aired so many years ago.The details are fantastic, but I still have a gripe about the lack of interior details. Even the last Star Destroyer had a little interior. The hangar doors don't even open up, which I think doesn't do the idea of the Venator any justice. I like the inclusion of the mini gunship, and the exterior details are fantastic, 100%. I do gripe about the lack of minifigs and the lack of detail on the Rex figure. I mean...we could've gotten a few more clone troopers for the price, even the Falcon comes with a decent number of minifigs, and the lack of a waste cape around Rex is also a letdown, Lego could've really done more for that ... MoreThe Venator is a very welcome addition to the line of UCS ships for Star Wars, it is definitely due given Clone wars aired so many years ago.The details are fantastic, but I still have a gripe about the lack of interior details. So let me say the model itself is beautiful when built and if this set was priced more reasonaby or if it had some of its more major flaws fixed I would likely rate it better. The goodLooks extremely accurateAbsolutely beautiful when built. The bad.The model is extremely fragile when built the large panels in particular will have pieces fall off at the slightest touch. The Minifigures are not only flawed with captain rex having extra holes in his helmet and missing a waist cape but there are also only two of them. Large harry Potter sets typically get over 20 Minifigures. Why do star wars fans only get two?Lastly not only does this 650$ ( before tax ) UCS set already have stickers which is already a joke but the shade of grey on the stickers doesn't even ... MoreSo let me say the model itself is beautiful when built and if this set was priced more reasonaby or if it had some of its more major flaws fixed I would likely rate it better. Everything that can be said about it has probably already been said. The model is perfect for what it is and is a brilliant display piece. However, there are a few minor issues:1) the captain rex figure needs a cloth cama for a £550 set2) some pieces were missing/replaced by wrong piece. This is to say twice in the building process a piece was missing and in the packet was an unrelated piece of similar wait and size (one of which was present no where in the set).-when building the front right side a 1x6 sand coloured brick used for support was missing (I replaced it with a spare in grey). In it's place was a black 3x2 flat piece with a technique connection (present later in the set)-when building the back left side a 2x2 with wings(1 stud back) in dark blueish ... MoreEverything that can be said about it has probably already been said. In it's place was a black technique piece that was triangular and 1/4 technique pin wide.My assumptions is that the machines that way out the Lego messed up some how (I heard this is how spare pieces appear in sets). I find this situation some what reasonable considering the sets size and am still incredibly happy with the product. Lego shot it out of the park with this one.
When I found out the Venator was to be released as a UCS set, I knew I had to get it. I’ve always been a big fan of this ship. It’s like a much cooler version of the Star Destroyer. I love that it is extremely detailed. The color is extremely vibrant. It is extremely sturdy and can be moved around with ease. Even though the ship is symmetrical, there is not that much repetition. I really loved the mini version of the Republic Gunship made to scale. I like that the info plate was printed instead of a sticker. But, I don’t understand why they couldn’t have done that for the other pieces instead of using stickers. But, overall, this set is definitely recommended for any Clone Wars fan. It is a little on the expensive side, but definitely worth the investment.
Much like most of the UCS over the last roughly 10 years, the Venator is a beautiful set. The stand is sturdy, has fine details, and I love the accent the engines have from a rear shot of the ship. The red stripes definitely make it far more exciting to view compared to the Star Destroyer. My bigger gripes are that for its size, the ship sadly has no "play" in terms of the interior like the Millennium Falcon or Razorcrest. Definitely something that's sorely missing for the price and size. Also the measurements they give on the height is a bit inaccurate, as it sits more around 13" flat, something I unfortunately discovered when attempting to fit on it a display shelf. Had to place it on the shelf below. Another minor thing is building wise certain placements are a ... MoreMuch like most of the UCS over the last roughly 10 years, the Venator is a beautiful set. Had to place it on the shelf below. Another minor thing is building wise certain placements are a bit tricky, certainly something to have a keen eye on when constructing it. Namely the technic bolts and joint placements when assembling the exterior plating. All that aside, it is one of the more doable ships to handle and move despite the back-heavy nature of it. It's great having a Clone War era UCS ship of this magnitude.
The build when complete looks fantastic and it's nice to see more prequel sets, especially at the bigger price points. But the figure selections for star wars in general and this set in particular is irritating. A marvel or harry potter set over 200 pounds comes with loads of figures (if the point is that only 2 fit on the display stand, design a bigger stand). On top of that, the minifigures in a set over 500 pounds not being as premium as possible shows where lego values the fans the most; the new Avengers Tower shows Wanda has a cloth waist piece, so why no waist cloth pieces for clones? If you're spending this much on a set, you should expect dual molding on Rex, printing on every angle of the legs, a cloth piece and no oversized printing on the chest. In ... MoreThe build when complete looks fantastic and it's nice to see more prequel sets, especially at the bigger price points. So I'd been saving up for a UCS set for awhile. I'd been looking at the AT-AT but I held off once this set's rumors started circulating the internet. Once i saw it spoiled I knew I had to have it. I missed the UCS Star Destroyer before it was retired and but immediately fell in love with the Venator. As a kid I loved seeing it in the iconic opening scene of RoTS and loved it's in the Clone Wars.So far I'm half way through book 3 and it's been incredibly enjoyable. Things to note. The engines tend to sag a bit. It will be interesting to see how they hold up over time. Also, moving it needs to be done carefully. I made the mistake of grabbing the bridge to move it and ripped the whole thing off. I should've known better but it's just so easy to grab subconsciously ... MoreSo I'd been saving up for a UCS set for awhile. I made the mistake of grabbing the bridge to move it and ripped the whole thing off. I should've known better but it's just so easy to grab subconsciously when trying to move. Finally as far as some of the concerns I've seen on the internet. I'm not real concerned with there not being an interior build. As I'm building it I can see why there is none. As for the red bridge. I'm OK with it being the command ship coloration. Honestly, a little extra color is welcomed given how much gray and black lego ships I already have. Finally, the Captain Rex minifig. I haven't actually gotten that far yet to see it. But it's not a deal breaker for me and it wont effect my review one way or the other. I bought set to build the ship. The minifig is just a cool extra. Whether or not Captain Rex looks exactly, 100% perfect, like it did in the Clone Wars is irrelevant to me as long as the ship is good design and fun build.
So I'll start by saying the ship itself in terms of construction is quite impressive and accurate. Similar build to the imperial star destroyer imo but I kind of expected that going in. That being said, I see 2 unforgivable flaws with this set that make this the most disappointing UCS set for me since the Republic Gunship. 1. Sets like this(big, expensive, 18+UCS) shouldn't include a single sticker. Every detail should be printed or brick built. If you insist on using stickers at least color match them to the bricks properly. 2. Minifigures are a huge let down. Yularen is fine, but Rex is very much not. Ammo pack on the chest is way too big, as is the shoulder pauldron. Plus not using a physical kama/waist cape, and the ugly unused accessory hole in the helmet all ... MoreSo I'll start by saying the ship itself in terms of construction is quite impressive and accurate. For $650, we should have gotten 6 more printed pieces and a more accurate Rex. I know we could have gotten that, but they chose not to and that's what makes this such a disappointment to me. Bonus points for the absolute joke of a promo for buying this week 1. But, hey, at least there was a promo this year.
Gonna list the few cons that I have before moving on to positives (which is basically the whole set), because while there aren't many negatives they absolutely need to be addressed.1) Stickers. This is a $650 US set, and here in Canada it's $850. Every single piece that needs extra detail should be printed, this isn't up for discussion. Other themes get that treatment - Star Wars sets should get the same. They aren't as discolored as reviews might have you believe, but it's enough to be noticeable.2) Rex. Lego, sincerely, what the hell. We all know you can make waist capes, there should've been one here. The pauldron is also too large and completely hides the arm printing. Plus, the helmet holes really are a sore point. Plus, the helmet holes really are a sore point. When your slogan is "only the best is good enough", this is unacceptable.3) I haven't really seen anyone mention this, but the bridge has this irritating tendency to bow slightly upwards. I don't know what, if anything, could be done to resolve this, but once you notice it it's super distracting and I really wish it wasn't.All that to say - these are three, incredibly small nitpicks for an otherwise outstanding build. The stand is far sturdier than the ISD from a few years ago, I never feel like this thing will fall over or break on me. It's very, VERY sturdy. The panels are going nowhere, same with the engines, which are absolutely gorgeous. LEGO killed it here, these things barely sag at all and are simply stunning. The printed plaque, 20th anniversary brick and Yularen are all welcome additions too. Detailing is stellar on all sides of the set, even the underside which you'd barely ever look at, and very well done.As to people complaining about no interior - honestly, I don't really see why. It's a little hard to appreciate until you have it in hand, but there is zero room for an interior to exist without compromising the exterior aesthetic or the structural integrity of the ship, both of which are FAR more important to a UCS set.For me, as someone who grew up watching the Clone Wars series and has been waiting on this set for probably ten years, if not longer, this is the easiest decision to buy I have ever had with a lego set. If you have the money, and the space (because this thing is HUGE), then I see basically no reason not to get it. Even with the small nitpicks, this is by far the best Clone Wars set since the Dropship with AT-OT - if not even better than that one - and I would highly recommend this to anyone who has ever appreciated the Clone Wars or the prequels.
