I was having some much fun with her that I thought of getting a set for myself, something that would be really challenging. The box is high glossy quality as are the 4 internal boxes for each stage of the build.The base of The Colosseum is very sturdy and has convenient lift handles either side of it should you need to move the finished article around. When it arrived I was a little disappointed that the box was damaged, but it isn't that big of a deal. It was going well until bag 23, when I discovered I was missing two pieces from that bag. I pulled pieces from my existing LEGO collection to fill in temporarily until I was able to request replacement pieces. I continued building and by the time I was about 75% done, I had a total of 13 missing pieces. I was so frustrated that I stopped building at that point. I understand missing the odd piece here or there, but you'd think for a LEGO set of this size (and price) that more care would be taken to ensure nothing is missing. LEGO really outdid itself with this set. I have not completed the build yet, but I am having a blast so far. I have found myself getting lost multiple times, completely disregarding time. I will not disagree with reviews that state this set is repetitive and monochromatic. It is. At the same time, it is not. Yes, many elements are repeated. However, each slice has some variations that gives the final build the decaying and imperfect look that the Colosseum has today, while maintaining the grandeur and awe that one can experience when seeing the Colosseum first hand. While the detail in inner and outer rings of the Colosseum is great, I am most impressed that the designers added some detail to the internal spaces. I have found myself getting lost multiple times, completely disregarding time. I will not disagree with reviews that state this set is repetitive and monochromatic. It is. At the same time, it is not. Yes, many elements are repeated. However, each slice has some variations that gives the final build the decaying and imperfect look that the Colosseum has today, while maintaining the grandeur and awe that one can experience when seeing the Colosseum first hand. While the detail in inner and outer rings of the Colosseum is great, I am most impressed that the designers added some detail to the internal spaces. The designer could have ignored the internal spaces completely, leaving them empty, and focused on only the parts that will be seen when the set is complete. The cascading arches to create the great halls, the rough look of the hypogeum, the rough edges representing the decay of the building were all great details. I enjoy the bits of history shared in each of the instruction books.Overall, I give this an Excellent rating. I highly recommend.
