My daughter loves Lego’s and space, so this was the perfect combo! She has so much fun putting together and was able to do it unassisted because the directions are created with kids in mind! She leaves her favorite Lego sets displayed year round and this one made the cut! Happy momma purchase!

A great set that will take every toddler on a space journey. A very well made space shuttle, which we have access to not only from the cabin side, but also to its interior, where the entire command center is located. Plus a cool space rover and interesting elements.

A fine addition to the fleet

A combination of continuing space shuttle fever after the release of 10283 NASA Space Shuttle Discovery and excitement over Ingenuity's flight led me to track down this older set and I'm glad I did.There's a lot to the set, to the extent that it almost feels like two separate complete sets representing two distinct Mars missions--a manned orbital mission in a space shuttle with a little payload, and an unmanned surface mission with a rover, a helicopter, and a piece of Martian terrain. Both of the "sub-sets" are very satisfying, with a surprisingly substantial rover and a shuttle that feels like a close relative of the LEGO space shuttles I grew up on in the early nineties (it loses the manipulator arm those shuttles had, but gains seating for a second astronaut and that feels like a fair trade). I found myself naming the components as I built: the Inspiration helicopter, the Materials Ascent and Return Container (MARC) container drone, the Creativity rover, and the Intrepid space shuttle.The one significant issue I ran into with the set is that the "white" paint on the shuttle canopy isn't even remotely a match for the white plastic--it's actually closer to matching the medium slate gray. I'm also a little disappointed that the rover has no intentional-looking way to transport the container drone other than just carrying it with the claw, which I'd imagine would make gathering samples tricky. Both of those are fairly minor annoyances, though, and I'm overall very pleased.

A lot of small pieces

It came on time. It is NOT Durable. Pricy. A lot of $$$$ for plastic. It was entertaining. Was not suited for the 5 year old to put together. Child needs to be old enough to read and know instructions.

As expected

I have been really looking forward to these new Mars sets that I also have the rover truck, two mini satellite shuttles and four satellite polybag sets. My goal is to hybridize these Mars sets with the 2008/09 Mars Mission sets. Here's a pick of my MTron Becon Tracker inspired Mars buggy. The last one you can see the current Mars Rover with the canopy swapped for a trans. orange piece and there is also the Mars Mission Mining Unit too.

Fairly, out of this world

Dream come true!!!! I’ve been a lego fan from a very young age. Since then, my time just deteriorated. I always thought of my dreams of a toy space ship and a functioning crew. I looked through all the sets of 2019 space and wasn’t disappointed. I finally took one home. The LEGO “Space satellite service”, for ten dollars! I was stoked and even picked up two. The unboxing seemed odd but nonetheless satisfying every time you dump it out. It was one of the most pleasant sets if not the most I’ve had in a while. THIS sets been completely photoshopped to the point where the capsules are white. Once opened the capsules are Blueish gray whittled.(I know, it’s a bit to much of a rant for a toy). But I missed the quality. And the space sets I love and hope will continue. Anyways apologies to anyone who made it to these words. That was that.But overall I think it’s a great set that has great pieces for collector-builders. I just don’t know if LEGO is saving money in the long run or if it’s to help the environment.(I had customized it a bit)This years sets was literally a dream come true! Life saver!

I ordered this as soon as I had the slightest inkling schools might close due to the Coronovirus. Thank God I did! My 10 year old (who has Autism) absolutely loves Lego and is delighted with his latest addition. He spent 5 hours (over 2 days!) to complete his first model. And it’s given me some much needed respite. Delivery was timely and I was kept updated with progress all along. Thank you Smyths!

Needs a Runway

Guessing here, but I think the "story" behind this set is that astronauts in orbit around Mars in a space shuttle are controlling a Mars drone and robotic exploration rover on the surface, then a rocket box (?) lofts a rock sample up to the ship for study. You get a little of everything, here: a shuttle, two astronauts, a six-wheeled rover, flying drone, rocks, and return box. If you're looking for a Lego "sampler" of the new City Mars Exploration set, this is probably it. Two gripes: the landing gear is too small for a shuttle this size, and the shuttle "cargo bay" will only fit the astronaut and a box, not a satellite or anything larger. The shuttle would not be able to land on Mars unless astronauts on the surface build a runway! Spaceship!

Relaxed build over 2-3 hours with some background movie watching, then dismantled it and rebuilt it with my niece of 4 and grandfather the next day and we all had a blast! (Thrilled to bits to see my niece thoroughly enjoy her first taste of Lego!) The set design is wonderful, a number of sections I found to be particularly clever in their design and it's a delight to build. The stickers and off-axis parts like the engines and wingtips give it a ton of flair, really adding to the already existing details and the shuttle alone would make for a great display model. You will end up with, as mentioned, a great, and surprisingly sizeable display piece with oodles of character. Should you wish to break it back down again, there are plenty of unique and useful bricks that can augment other space sets or create something new entirely, I am still exploring the rebuildability of this set and I'm excited by the possibilities!I had to dock (pun intended) one star from the final score, as I do feel there are a few minor and/or subjective cons to this set. My first is the landing gears, I feel they're far too small (I think I am not the first to mention this) and somewhat fragile-feeling. The cockpit canopy could in my opinion be designed to affix more securely, or with some kind of hinge system (It's affixed via the white 2x2-pin wedge on the nose) as it's a touch wobbly-feeling overall. And lastly the grip of the rover's claw doesn't really interact too well with the things it's supposed to, for me at least, and it's difficult to get a good grip on the samples for example for display or play purposes and that for me does bring down its play experience *ever* so slightly. I say this after having to go hunting for a sample brick that pinged-off and under furniture! :POverall a solid 9/10 set. Great design, satisfying build, tons of play value and great value for money makes this a worthwhile set to grab for those looking to start their City/Space collection!

Very fun kit with great value for money

I bought this for my 5-year-old son, who is totally mad for all things space at the moment.We put it together in three small sessions across a couple of days, and he was able to do almost all of the building himself with very little help. He was very proud of being able to assemble it!The end result is a great little set and really good value for money. The inclusion of a rover, geodes, two drones an two astronauts alongside the main shuttle means there is a lot of potential for imaginiative play.The builds are also fairly sturdy, although we have had issues with the boosters falling off the shuttle during play and the bay hatch catching on closing.
