I was so excited for this set. I love the small buildings for Hogwarts that Lego does and I was thrilled to get a brick built Fluffy. However… seriously, if you want to add detail to a massive cone piece, please for the love of all things holy, PRINT IT!!! I tried and tried to get that sticker straight and it was so frustrating. The sticker remains crooked because I don’t want to order a new sticker sheet off BrickLink and go through that mess again but honestly, how disappointing. A sad end to an adorable build. Kind of ruined the set for me.

I love everything Harry Potter and have some of the old lego sets. These new ones don’t disappoint. Obviously you get the great quality of lego so all the bits fit really well. You also get great attention to detail from a HP fans point of view. The different sets can all be put together to create the Harry Potter world. With this set you get part of Hogwarts and an interactive whomping willow. You can spin the ford anglia out of the tree and give Harry and Ron a scary ride. What’s not to like. Great fun and any fans old or young will love it.

Overall very good set, fun to build. Cost effective way to get the golden trio in their full hogwarts robes. However, this set is meant to represent the final third of the film. The trio are in normal clothes during that whole sequence. There is just a little inaccuracy with the minifigs which could be easily corrected since the normal clothes versions of the trio already exist in the Wizard Chess set so it just seems like Lego has locked these unique versions of the trio behind a more expensive set so if you want them the Wizard Chess set is the only way to get them, but they should be in this set too. However I cannot see any other sets that include these fully robed versions of the trio so I can see why they may have made this decision.
I know lots of people really dislike this set and I can see why if you just look at it for what it is intended, as it fails in that area. However, I bought this looking at the potential I could do with it and in that respect it is great. Basically, use the structure as the building/room for whatever you want and not the intended purpose. Make it your own "Room of Requirement". That's what I'm doing with it. It's a decent size space to have as a classroom, library, etc etc etc.
Let me start by saying I’m a Lego fanatic. This is the first set in almost 13 years where I felt ripped off. In order to properly play out the scene this set represents you have to buy another set to stack it on top of (very predatory). I don’t understand why the roof or balcony exist. This is very clearly a middle level floor. They were not part of the scene nor are they present in the books nor do they offer any play value. The set itself is very cramped yet very empty. I don’t like that fluffy is four different colors when he is described and shown to be almost all brown with a little black. The characters are wearing the wrong clothes. This is not the set I would give to a child as THE set to get them into both Lego and Harry Potter.
It pains me to be critical of a HP Lego set but the designers really didn’t think this one through. (I have dozens of HP Lego sets.) Having a trap door is excellent but you can’t put the devil’s snare chamber underneath it because there’s nothing else to support the structure. I assembled a room using my own bricks and it works now. Fluffy doesn’t fit in the trap door room. The instructions were difficult to discern because they had a lot of dark brown pieces that I couldn’t distinguish in the illustrations. The harp is a clever idea that doesn’t come together. I’m glad to see that people generally like this. I just think it was a swing and a miss.
I'm really happy to see so many old moments revisited in this new line. It was very nostalgic to re-create iconic scenes from the first Harry Potter installment. I'll try to touch open my interpretation of the problems other people have had.1. Stickers. I've read about struggles with sticker 5 inside of the big green cone piece, but it worked fine for me. Trick: start in the middle, then smooth out to the edges.2. Also stickers: both stickers 4 and 5 are indicated as "5" on the instructions. Minor issue.3. I've read complaints about how Harry, Ron, and Hermione are wearing robes instead of their sweaters from when they go down the trapdoor. However, when they first meet Fluffy in the movie, they are wearing robes. And yes, I know the harp indicates this set ... MoreI'm really happy to see so many old moments revisited in this new line. And yes, I know the harp indicates this set represents the later Fluffy Encounter, but I can trade out my minifigures from the Chess Set for that scene.4. I was glad to build Fluffy, I like seeing how animals can be made from Lego pieces, even if the grey technic pieces show.5. Colours! I'm glad to see the old colours of "brick yellow" and "sand green." It takes me back to the first ever wave.6. There is a lot in this set that just reminds me of the book, more so than of the movie. I mean, just because the scene looks a certain way for the films does not mean every product has to match, and I'm glad to see some creativity to reflect fresh interpretations. (Why *not* have a tower with some odd potion bottles? I thought it was a cute touch.)7. It's just a little weird that when you line up the side tower horizontally under the trapdoor, you are left with the extra tower roof. I wish there was maybe another room that it could cover.8. The candles!! Step 40. The flames will not stay put!! They are too thick for the knobs to reach the hole in the inverted 1x1 circle piece. Sure, I can make them balance, but I expected the satisfying "click" of two pieces being firmly put together. All in all, a good representation of the first Harry Potter (book and movie), but not without flaws.
Should have read the reviews before buying this--mea culpa. It was an okay build; my chief complaint is that Lego creates big one-off custom pieces for the set that will be challenging if not impossible to repurpose -- and isn't that some of the fun? It doesn't seem very creative to build a conical tower for example by attaching 3 or 4 tapering conical pieces. I've seen and admired stunning rockwork by some talented builders, but this set uses a big chunky dark grey piece. I do give this set, like the other Potter sets, high marks for a pleasing and attractive colorway. But that's about it.
My 9 yr. old daughter bought this set with her Christmas money. She wanted a smaller set that looked like the castle, had the three main characters, was not hard to build and she could play with and understand the scene as she has only read the first two books. She did struggle a little bit with building Fluffy the three headed dog but did well other than that. I was a little disappointed in the end when she tried to play with it. Fluffy hardly fits in the room that is designed for him. her first comment was "I cant get fluffy in the room" and then when i helped her get the dog in she was upset because there was no room for the characters to go down the trapdoor. I was also a little disappointed that you kind of need another set if you want to have the kids drop ... MoreMy 9 yr. old daughter bought this set with her Christmas money. Over all she is still happy with it, we just wish it had a little more playability with it.
