Firstly, congrats to Lego to 'reviving' a set from many people's childhood past. The subtle changes from the first version to this one are impressive to see.I would echo some commentary in the fact that the amount of bricks required to build the 'rock base' did become a bit repetitive. As well, the 'string' used for the crane is not ideal - how about we look to get a bit thicker / firmer rope for this in future sets? However, I would also mention that the change from 'wall panels' to brick built walls is a nice change, and allowed for a lot more functionality + playability afterwards. The improved boat is a great addition - and the added characters is great to see! Finally, the ability to 'break out' different parts of the build to re-configure the entire fort is ... MoreFirstly, congrats to Lego to 'reviving' a set from many people's childhood past. First of all, I am not quite sure why this set is part of the 18+ range beyond creating nostalgia for people who remember it from their childhood. I think this would make a fantastic 12+ setThe set also features LEGO's "new" Multi-builder system. There are 4 instruction booklets for 4 separate parts of the set which can be built at the same time by 4 different people. This means it is great for multi builders, large groups. Though they don't mention this anywhere on the box.Though as a "displayer" of LEGO, I do think this set has some decent play potential. There are only a few "features" like crane, cannon, a few trap doors, but the set is very modular. As I fall into the 45 - 60 age bracket, it'll come as no surprise to learn I picked this up as I owned the original version of this set back in 1989. It was the last big Lego set I was given in Christmas that year and I loved it. I looked after it and later gave it to my nephew, who promptly decorated the garden with all the parts and figures. Sigh. Well toys are for playing with, so at least he enjoyed himself. I've been fond of Lego's recent recreation of older sets (much better than straight reissues), and whilst this may be very much playing to silly old farts like me, it is a great set.The main advantage this has over the original is the inclusion of a larger boat (a Clipper, apparently - I don't know boats), so you can have hours of fun loading and unloading ... MoreAs I fall into the 45 - 60 age bracket, it'll come as no surprise to learn I picked this up as I owned the original version of this set back in 1989. Or at least I have, it's a toy right? Play with it!The main build I really enjoyed - the terrain isn't as monotonous as it looks to build, with different techniques to keep it interesting. The overall look once complete is excellent. Although I do have one criticism - I'm not a fan of the way Governor Broadside's office has no back to it and the secondary cannon emplacement gets in the way of being able to do anything useful with the space. Still, I have some bricks of my own so I can remedy that. It's a minor thing when one considers the way this takes the original toy and refines and updates it using modern pieces and techniques. The main selling point of this is the modular nature of the set. You can split it apart and reconfigure it a variety of ways, which also reveals a few underground secrets - hidden treasure, some barrels of ale or similar and a poor pirate who made a wrong turn when trying to escape!I'm also really pleased with all the play features packed in - along with aforementioned underground areas, you've got a prison cell your prisoners can break out of, loads of gun emplacements, those awesome cannons (really pleased these remain as fearsome as ever), a couple of trap doors, loads of little bags of stuff, a kitchen area and table to eat alfresco. Nice! Oh, and I love that the ramp now has studs so you can pose figures on it! How cool is that?Rounding out the set is a selection of cheery soldiers and a couple of pirates. I was surprised to see that three of the soldiers were female, which I appreciated. It's always nice to have some gender balance to historical sets like these.I've been super pleased with the set overall and think it's excellent. For what you get and the play features included, it's a much more worthy retro themed purchase compared to the very expensive Castle and is as good as the superb Galaxy Explorer.

Oh man the second I saw this I HAD to have it so I ordered it. I wanted this set soooo bad when I was a kid but we were pretty poor when I was growing up so Lego sets were something purchased maybe once a year for a birthday or Christmas. I was really impressed by the details and especially the playability of this set, even though I only display my sets. Well, I did kinda play with this one for a while like I was 9 years old again. The only thing I don’t really care for is the ship. It’s ok, but it’s not great. I’d rather they leave it out and charge a little less but it’s fine. Great Minifigs too, although I wish they’d go back to the basic smiley face especially for soldier Minifigs. In my opinion they should all look the same. The build is fun, not too repetitive, but good luck with those two palm trees, putting the palm leaves on seemed really difficult to get them all the way in place. Overall a great build experience, nothing was confusing. What a great set and I’m happy to finally have it.
This set is absolutely amazing. At $214 I'm very happy with the value here. I really liked building the base up instead of using the old styles base plate. I built this set over a weekend and I had such a good time. Neat little Easter eggs hidden throughout the build and the mini figures are really cool. Building this really took me back to the early 90s style Legos I grew up with. I'm looking forward to more sets inspired by the older designs. I collect mainly pirates, ships, sea life, really anything water related. The new Creator Pirate Ship and the Octopus from the 3in1 Submarine set look really cool interacting with Eldorado Fortress. I'm really having alot of fun displaying the fortress in different styles and it's super easy since it's modular and opens up. ... MoreThis set is absolutely amazing. You can tell a lot of love went into creating this design. I'm going to be honest I like this set more than the original in every way.
LEGO Eldorado Fortress is a perfect father/son toy. I enjoyed some childhood nostalgia, a great building experience with my son, and he loves the great play features. The set looks wonderful and I appreciate the retro yellow and white color scheme. The instruction manual was thoughtfully divided into multiple books for different age groups which allowed my son and I to spread the build over several nights. He was able to enjoy several smaller bits that were appropriate for his attention span while I got to build the larger portions. Marketing this kit as 18+ is a miss on the part of LEGO, as my young son has been happily playing with this set nonstop for the entire week. The combination of a row boat, a small cargo ship, a working crane, firing cannons, lost treasure, a little jail, and pirate minifigs has resulted in many hours of fun. The best feature of all is the ability to disassemble and reassemble the fortress in multiple configurations, which has fascinated my son. The potential for creative stories and adventures is nearly endless. Excellent set, highly recommended, especially for parent/child duos. Well done, Lego.
I purchased this set the day it became available. I grew up playing with the older pirate sets and I wanted my son to jump in on the fun that I remember experiencing at his age. This set did not disappoint! We worked on it together and had such a great time. So cool that you could do multiple builds at once. I know some people have complained about some redundancies primarily regarding the lifted stone foundation but I was all for it! Loved how the designer went away from the original molded base and used bricks instead. I’m all for details like this and the brick builds and patterns to make the rocks look killer! We have already put in multiple hours of play and I am confident we have even more ahead. This was such a satisfying build journey from start to finish. I never owned the original set, but am squarely in the age demo for the nostaglia of this set.Early on, the heavy reliance on similar and small dark grey bricks can feel a bit monotonous, but it is filled with enough details to keep it interesting until arriving at the fort itself. The amount of detail in the basement/rock level is really quite impressive. Satisfying build process overall. Also, for an 18+ "display" set, the amount of "play interactions" in this set is really incredible. And, I mean, its okay to play with our "display" legos sometimes. The modular function is awesome, too, allowing for multiple displays. When set up in the single walled fort front, the length is impressive and makes the set feel much bigger. And the inclusion of the ship really puts it over the top. Just the fort would be great, but a ship to go with it makes this well worth it.
This is an excellent revamp of the original set, and I'm thrilled to have the original bluecoats back. The modular layout is nice, and the inclusion of the ship from the Imperial Trading Post is wonderful.Unfortunately, the bar has been set extremely high for these remakes: Sets like Barracuda Bay and the Lion Knight's Castle capture the *spirit* of the theme and expand on that using modern techniques. This set is, unfortunately, just a straight remake of the original. I'd just like to see more.Barracuda Bay was filled with easter eggs and references to the original theme like the Kahuka statue, and had a fully detailed interior. Lion Knight's Castle featured angled wall sections, thatched roofs, a grindstone, and lots of other details that were never found on any original castle sets. This set feels a bit devoid of details by comparison to those other remakes. There's even a few things that are downgrades from the original: you can't put cannons through the new wall design, and the ship doesn't have the cargo hatch that was present on the original, and there's a lack of proper doors, and of course the palm trees are the modern ones which somehow don't look as good as the ones from 30 years ago.The design language of the set is great and I'm thrilled to see an Imperial Fort at all (certainly a pretty niche subject matter!), but imagine if this was a modular port town with a tavern, a barracks, an officers' quarters, and maybe a blacksmith. There'd be so much more room for storytelling and an exploration of the pirates theme! (Search for the SleeplessNight MOCs on Rebrickable to see what I mean.)Fundamentally, this set is trying to complete with the original Eldorado and modern fan creations, and lands in the middle. It's good, but isn't more exciting to look at than the original set. I'm worried that Lego will interpret poor sales of this set as a lack of demand for pirates -- that's not the case! But please give us more content that's "inspired by" the originals like Barracuda Bay and Lion Knight's Castle, not a straight remake like this.
This was a set that I’ve been exited to build for a long time after the amazing experience of barracuda bay. It’s frustrating to be disappointed with a set but trying not to be more than the average crazy person let’s give it a go. This set fell short!!!From when the set turned up in its oversized box which is less than 1/2 full (yes I get it this is not new but it needs called out for the waste it is)It just did not feel like a set that Lego were invested in.The inclusion of the clipper ship was not need for the build and the poor quality print on the sails left a feeling that this set was being sold short. The multiple different sized institutions were just a disappointment feeling like it was lacking in quality.A lack of imagination in the instruction manuals ... MoreThis was a set that I’ve been exited to build for a long time after the amazing experience of barracuda bay. The fortress it’s self once completed is a nice build but feels like it’s missing some thing that would have elevated the build. Would I recommend this set, not as much as others classic sets. Over all it’s a could have tried harder.
