This is an incredible gift for anybody that is a LEGO fan or even somebody that loves birds and puzzles. The building set has over 800 pieces and you can work on this safely anywhere. It’s quite portable once it’s put together. You can place it anywhere you like and the pieces are all durable, very high-quality and fit together seamlessly. This is a safe, well-made LEGO product that you will enjoy or your recipient will enjoy for many years.

Beautiful feathers, of Lego!

I just love this build, the angles, the feathers, a real demonstration of what is possible with Lego!Apart from the base not being very stable, this was an enjoyable build with good stability and really interesting to watch the shape evolve as buildingI would recommend when printing instructions with this dark a blue colour to use a lighter colour on the page as it’s hard to see the pieces under artificial lighting conditions, especially those of us with deteriorating eyesightI also struggle with instructions with black pieces, but in more modern instructions they are often outlined . Maybe this is needed for darker colours too?It’s a beautiful colour, so love the finished product, but struggled to build in the evening

Highly recommend! Set is stunning and looking great displayed with botanical Legos. Must buy! I'm so grateful that Smith's make great sale on this set and I could buy it for myself and after loving it so much I purchased second for my Mum. Bright, Unique and Worth It

I first saw the set in store and it instantly caught my eye. The colours alone and the fact that it’s a unique set I personally haven’t seen attempted before. I started to build at a leisurely rate and at a time of 3-4 hours it was enjoyable throughout. Using new techniques I haven’t done before and the blocks used for the water is simply special. The wings and torso are so seem less even the plants are great. If you’re looking for another addition or you’re a nature loving individual who wants a centre piece this set is brilliant.

Build experience up and down like the bird itself

Overall this was a fun build, I found parts 'grew' very quickly; the base and most of the water effects were fast but I made the mistake of doing the 'splashes' at night which made the transparent bits tricky under artificial light. Body, wings, tail were no problem but the head (and fitting it) was a bit of a nightmare. Lego has a habit of securing a fairly large, solidly built part of a model to another in a way which requires you to hold it by or fix it with a hugely more fragile part, which inevitably results in bricks pinging off or coming apart and needing to be reconstructed. Such was the case with the head here which took me a few attempts to sit nicely and keep all its bricks together. Fun build and Nice Display

I am just getting back into Lego as an adult and have been trying everything to see what I like. I bought this set because I like the way it looks and wanted to see how they achieved the detail. I have built a few other animals and have enjoyed them, this one is really nice though. Early on in the process I wasn't sure I liked it, it is very technical looking and you don't get into the pretty stuff until you have the base built. Then it gets really fun. I like the colors and making the water in the base was fun and challenging - lots of translucent pieces, but rewarding. The final product is really nice and if they release more birds like this I will definitely buy them.

I Quite Liked It, But..

Honestly, I do generally enjoy this build. I definitely would want and am hoping for LEGO to produce more bird projects like this one. The kingfisher is a favorite of mine, and I love it. It was definitely frustrating at times, some of the pieces would fall off when I was adding to the base. But, nothing too bad or too tough to handle. I find myself wanting to put extra pieces on the bottom of the base to secure it more. One of the pieces did come completely dented and unusable, so one of the border pieces has been left off. The transparent pieces were tricky, especially with how they looked in the booklet, same with the dark blue pieces, I had to do a couple double takes. But I mean, overall, very pretty build! I enjoyed it! And will enjoy having it on my shelf! <3

Well worth the price!

With the amount of pieces and time it takes to build (for me ~3 hours), the $50 price tag is way more than reasonable. It was a bit repetitive with the wings (but that is to be expected. Once you get into the groove of it it feels less so). Overall very fun build! I especially loved assembling the components onto the base + bird base. Loved the feeling of it coming all together. Only (minor) gripe is that when I was building the tailfeather parts kept on falling off, and it was a bit tedious to put them back on.

incredible build

honestly, this is one of my two or three favorite builds of all time. the set itself looks incredible in person (honestly, the photos don't do it justice). and the build is just incredibly fun. multiple new (to me) building techniques, great colors, incredibly clever use of elements (like the pagoda roof plates giving a splashing water effect), all the while being reasonably priced and a good size (not small but not so big that it's overwhelming to start). building the water could have been a little tedious, but honestly given that the water effect is so cool it didn't feel tedious at all. incredible set all around.
