The 4 age range is perfect for my grandson! Fewer pieces, less stress for him to build all by himself with little help. He already knows how to follow instructions, if he chooses to follow them!
I have a few variations of the full-size X-wings in my collection, but my 4 year old wanted his own. This set is perfect for young kids just learning to build. Easy to assemble and just as easy to fix when my son inevitably tries to make it fly and/or uses it to take out a few tie fighters, kamikaze-style.
If you were expecting this to be the same caliber as a more expensive set with more pieces, you will be disappointed. However, if you have a 4 year old who is obsessed with Star Wars and Legos, you will love this set! It was the perfect ability level for my 4 year old to build almost independently, and he loves it. The wings seem like they will come off easily, but I liked that he is able to attach them by himself. He absolutely loves this!
As an adult, I got this set specifically for the Poe Cameron and BB-8 Minifigures. Being designed for ages 4 is clearly indicated on the box, so if you're expecting a complicated build, you will be disappointed. Also, unlike most LEGO sets, this one comes with no extra pieces. But the completed model looks nice and can easily sit on a small shelf or desk for decoration. 4 stars because $14.99 would be a better price point, but I know the mark-up is a Disney choice and not Target's fault.
I bought this set to give to a young neighbor who just moved her from Brazil. He was beyond thrilled with his first Lego set!
It's a neat little model, but that's where the pros end. I just cannot see how Lego thinks a set this small and with such few pieces is worth $20. This is worth half that at the very most, and the piece count reflects that. I understand that this is a 4 set but Lego should not expect parents to pay a premium for that.
