The Interceptor is a great companion to the previously released UCS TIE Fighter, and the other Imperial UCS models. I'm hopeful that at some point the other TIE variants will receive the UCS treatment, but not at the expense of ships from other eras of Star Wars. Only issues I really have are yes the plague is a scratch magnet since it's a glossy finish, but have heard that future sets will revert to the older textured molds. I think that you could keep the glossy plague, but just place it in its own bag, same goes for all clear elements. They are always scratched or scuffed. I miss the old days of the manuals being a bit easier to fly through, as the current glue bound get difficult to spread the book open especially in the middle, but yes are more durable. Finished the large X-Wing a couple of weeks ago, and was really excited that this became available so that I could “match” the set. I was really looking forward to this build while having some downtime from work.Unfortunately, this set fell well below my expectations. I was able to order it before if became available to the public and I wish I would have waited for a while to learn the experiences of others. There were pieces missing from several of the bags early on, so I had to order parts and finished the early part of the build canibalizing parts from other bags and/or using parts I had leftover from previous builds.I just started on step 8 and have since quit out of frustrations. At this point I would just like a refund or a simple replacement. Doubt that’s going to happen from Lego though.

This set is an excellent addition to the UCS collection. The main cockpit has far too many gaps that could have been simply avoided with some creative ideas, & yet they remain present just to bug me.The plaque however, is by far the worst part of this set. It came completely covered in smudges & scratches. I do not appreciate that they switched from the classic matte look (that works perfectly fine btw) & decided to lower their standards to maybe save a couple of cents in making it.Overall the designers did an amazing job with this set. The wings for one I think are amazingly clean, & they just look fantastic! I absolutely love the little hints to the original Tie Interceptor, they add a fun touch.I would definitely recommend it to a friend! It also looks amazing ... MoreThis set is an excellent addition to the UCS collection. The main cockpit has far too many gaps that could have been simply avoided with some creative ideas, & yet they remain present just to bug me.The plaque however, is by far the worst part of this set. + General appearance is great and looks intimidating.+ I Really appreciate the spherical look of the core. A step up from the wedge pieces used in the recent tie fighter.+ Gribblies on the inner side of the wing plate are a great attention to detail- Window Plate can be tough to lock in without side slope pieces pushing it out.- I wish the instructions highlighted that the wings really are just mirrors. I would have saved myself some hassle by building all 4 at once instead of flipping through the same instructions 4 times.- Repairs are pretty frustrating to the wings; the shovels and gun pieces are almost guaranteed to pop-out as you fiddle about, necessitating that you dissassemble the wings from the shaft just to get everything back into place.-/+ really ... More+ General appearance is great and looks intimidating.+ I Really appreciate the spherical look of the core. However you can place it with the cockpit facing upwards just fine.fantastic display piece for sure. If you are a nutjob like me and want to hand this over to your toddlers to play with, I do recommend teaching them proper care and super gluing a few pieces:1. angled slopes abutting the wings to the shaft2. 1x1 bit holding shovels to the angular plate.3. rear thrusters4. controller plates5. 1x1 bit holding blasters to wings (and long stemmed blasters to wings as well)6. Some of the gribblies on inner side of wing (specifically the bits holding the bendy tube)7. stem holding disk in place on the wings.
Beautifully modeled and detailed build of the dagger-shaped TIE Interceptor. Very sturdy and weighs more than it appears, as the wings are quite hefty, but do not sag. Yes, you have 4 almost identical wing builds, but the wing geometry is so precisely accurate and snapping the plates into place so satisfying that you never feel bored doing it. The cockpit is the most detailed of any UCS ship thus far, but the stickers are annoying, as always.Three tips that improved the model and the building experience for me: 1) If you dip the stickers in a mixture of water and a bit of dish soap just before applying them, you will get a little more time and leverage to slide them into the correct position. You can then dry them with a paper towel. 2) The 1x3 tiles applied in ... MoreBeautifully modeled and detailed build of the dagger-shaped TIE Interceptor. You can then dry them with a paper towel. 2) The 1x3 tiles applied in steps 100 and 119 are only fixed with one stud, so when you touch them when holding the model, they slide out of alignment and can become loose. You can avoid this by using 4 of the leftover 1x1 round plates (there will be black, gray, transparent, and sand-colored ones throughout the build), and adding one to the bottom of each of the 4 1x3 tiles. This will keep the tiles aligned and prevent them from sliding when touched. 3) The angle of the stand with the vertical is quite large. It can be reduced by a maximum of 15-20° by moving the Technic pins connecting to the back-bracing brick 3 holes down. Accessing the 3rd hole requires moving the side bricks of the stand down by one hole, but there's no loss of sturdiness. In conclusion, had been waiting for over a decade for a proper counterpart for my UCS Red Five X-wing Starfighter, and this set blew away all my expectations!
From Vader's Tie Advanced 10175 to the Tie Fighter 75095 Lego continues to advance on the sphere shape of the cockpit. This design created many one stud attachment methods. While necessary it allows for the pieces to move when touched and thus once the build is complete it cannot be handled without repositioning pieces. This creates a very low "playability" with UCS sets they are more models, but I found the movement frustrating when building. I'm very pleased with the wing design. Very solid, and both sides have great details. The cockpit of this UCS is crown jewel. So many display panels. The detail is amazing. I grew up shooting down TIE Interceptors in X-Wing, so when I saw this set in the store with Star Wars Day bonuses, I had to have it. It's my first UCS set, so my expectations were high. Now that I've built it, I love how it looks and how solid it's built. Looks great on the stand.Compared to other sets I've built, though, I'm a little disappointed for the price. The intricate cockpit with lots of details was cool, but gets hidden away. After that was finished, the build got repetitive - half the bags were building the four wings in the exact same pattern over and over. And a lot of the details seem fragile and likely to break off if bumped.Once it's done, there are no articulation or play features beyond opening the cockpit - the Concorde has landing gear, the ... MoreI grew up shooting down TIE Interceptors in X-Wing, so when I saw this set in the store with Star Wars Day bonuses, I had to have it. for a long time i avoided to get into the Lego Star Wars line, even thoguh i have been a fan of Star Wars since childhood.but the Tie Interceptor has always been my #1 ship, so when i saw this gorgeous model being unveiled i knew i had to get it.the build is mostly very good, with a well detailed interior, and with good outside shaping that is true to the original model.there is however a few details that could (and should) have been done better.1. the griebling on hte inside of the rear wings should have been properly mirrored, it is luckily an easy fix but i dont understand why they werent already.2. the targeting array in between the wings also are not mirrored properly, the top tube should be slightly shorter than the bottom tube. but the way the box art ... Morefor a long time i avoided to get into the Lego Star Wars line, even thoguh i have been a fan of Star Wars since childhood.but the Tie Interceptor has always been my #1 ship, so when i saw this gorgeous model being unveiled i knew i had to get it.the build is mostly very good, with a well detailed interior, and with good outside shaping that is true to the original model.there is however a few details that could (and should) have been done better.1. the griebling on hte inside of the rear wings should have been properly mirrored, it is luckily an easy fix but i dont understand why they werent already.2. the targeting array in between the wings also are not mirrored properly, the top tube should be slightly shorter than the bottom tube. but the way the box art and instructions have you make it makes the left side the opposite. this also is very easy to fix and should have been caught somwhere in the design process since it is very obvious when looking at the source material added in the manual.so in conclusion, a very good swooshable and mostly solid build with a few in accuracies
Before jumping into my review of this beautiful ship, I really feel like LEGO should consider reviewing what people use to rank LEGO sets. In particular, the build experience and play experience can be difficult to score. Build experience on the TIE interceptor is redundant once you move to the wings…but that is anticipated due to the model you’re building. Further, the play experience also doesn’t make any sense when for the most part 18+ models are displays, not for play. I think a new category or two strictly for 18+ models makes sense :)Now the review: the two best parts of the entire model are the cockpit: everything about it including its look and building it, and second the overall look of the build and how accurate it is to the ROTJ version. It’s stunning. The only knock on the cockpit is the stickers. Not one brick is printed, but I cannot deny how good it looks regardless. The cockpit was also a ton of fun to build. There were times that I would be building it to be surprised as to how it fit into the bigger picture. The model itself in my opinion is the best looking Empire star fighter there is and the amount of smooth surfaces they use on this one vs the very LEGOy look of the UCS TIE, its hands down a much better looking model. Goes best with an X Wing in front of it!
First off this is a very attractive piece once assembled and the stand is a nice added touch. Would mention that the cockpit posed some challenges so agree with the overall age rating. Parents if you're thinking about getting this for younger children I'd recommend not. It can be a bit frustrating snapping parts together and the price tag for this one doesn't come cheap. Definitely in my opinion meant to be a display piece. Looks great positioned across from the X-Wing Fighter. If you don't have that one and have a few dollars to spend (same price a Tie Intercepter) then I'd highly recommend pairing them on a desk or shelf. Only drawback I have is what appears to be an ever increasing price margin. Even though it hits the bank account a little hard. I have to remember I'm not 20 anymore but 50, and things tend too increase in price.Overall this is a great piece to add to any collection. Little pricey but well worth the time to build and if you are a Star Wars fan, which I certainly am, you should certainly add this piece to your collection.
