LEGO strikes again - these sets aren't your traditional, old school LEGOs for little kids but instead are incredibly detailed models that have LOTS of pieces and LOTS of movement/mechanical connections - the blades not only turn with the included motor but also can tilt and whatnot with the movement of the control stick in the cockpit. As such, these are definitely for older kids - pre-teen and teenagers mostly, though could go a BIT younger based on the individual child and with more parental support in the build process. It's also something that adults might enjoy building themselves, so there's no high end on the age range! Presuming you don't lose any of the small pieces, this set will serve you well for YEARS to come.Given the detail, quality and number of pieces, this isn't the cheapest set, but it's still good value and a good buy given what you get for your money. I can certainly recommend it to those with kiddos in the right age range - or adults looking for something fun to do themselves!

My 6 year old son and I are in love with this set.We came across a suspected misprint and called Lego. A very knowledgeable employee was on the phone with us right away and confirmed that we were correct. On page 108 (picture # 180) we built a relatively simple module correctly. However, starting with the following picture (#181) on the same page (108) and until the end of the instructions book there is a persistent misprint of how it should look/come together. There are 2 pieces involved in the confusion: #4142132 and #4142865. Unfortunately I am not able to upload photos.I hope my less than ideal description of the problem doesn't confuse or put anyone off. You may not even notice it. It's a wonderful set.

This kit is everything you would expect from a Technic Lego set. The Technic sets are recommended for ages 11 and up - and I think this is the correct age. These sets are very complex, and a younger child will not have the patience or the coordination to assemble it. That is the reason for the three stars about it being easy to assemble. To be fair, this set is not supposed to be easy - it's supposed to be a challenge. That being said, the instructions are very detailed, and the set will take many hours to build. I anticipate it taking 3-4 sessions of at least 2 hours each, as it is so complex. The box is beautiful - with pictures of the assembled helicopter on the front and several other views on the back. As usual, it has several different numbered bags of pieces, and the instructions tell you the order in which to open the bags. This makes assembly a little easier as you have a slightly limited number of pieces to wade through to find the right one. The book suggests putting all the same color blocks together, which is a good start, however you will also want to sort some of the smaller connectors out as there are different ones, different sized rods, etc. and it's important to get the right one. I find that using a muffin tin is helpful. I also use a cookie pan (with an edge) or a sheet pan to sort them.I am looking forward to starting this at Thanksgiving so I have the long weekend to work on it. If you have an older child (or adult like me) who enjoys Legos this will make an excellent gift. If you are new to Legos this might not be the set to start with, but in any case you get your money's worth. Legos are professional grade toys - you can't go wrong with them.

As a retired Army officer and helicopter pilot, I couldn't wait to try this build. It was very fun to build. I made a mistake along the way, so when I finished the winch would not work. I had to de-construct it down to the second section and start over because the gears are all in the core of the helicopter. It was fun to build a second time and after the second time everything worked fine.I agree with some reviews that point out the retractable landing gear does not hold up very well. It does hold up satisfactorily for display. I don't think rigidity of the tail boom is a big deal. It is well secured, so I feel no worry that it will fall off during play.I know Technic models are not completely true to life, but I would have liked for them to put a windshield in ... It is great to help kids (big and little) understand the workings of a helicopter. The cyclics and collectives do move the swashplate realistically, though not very pronounced. I look forward to showing it to my grandkids to play with.
I had a blast building the LEGO Technic Airbus H175 Rescue Helicopter. It arrived on time and I was super excited—as always—when it came in a perfectly maintained package. Once opened, everything was sorted accordingly and was easy to find. The guidebook was detailed and provided me with all the necessary instructions. Although this specific model was more challenging than others I’ve worked on before, it was all the more rewarding. Once I got the hang of it, my extra efforts became clear. The retractable landing gear, passenger sliding doors, and motorized rotor blades got the whole family involved! I’m pleased to add this new model to my LEGO collection. Thank you!
At 2,001 pieces this is great kit for the aspiring tween/teen or adult who either loves aviation (like myself), wants to learn about the physics behind helicopter flight (pitch, yaw, and roll from the main and tail rotors), has built several 1k to 2k piece kits and looking for something more challenging, or who just enjoy the combination of mechanical and motor based movements in realistic lego models. You do not need a smart phone to operate the model, which is a plus to me. I will update this review with more photos after Christmas and once my nephew has a chance to put it through it's paces. After reading through the manual, I do not think this would be suitable for a child under 10 unless they have a fair amount of help or experience building similarly sized and ... There is an impressive level of detail and thought put into this set. I cannot imagine someone not being excited to receive this as a gift unless they don't like Legos or building things in general. Definitely worth the price given the amount of detail and it's realisticness.
WOW is all I can say about this helicopter build. I have some of the older ones and they where fun, but this one takes it to a whole new level. As others have already mentioned, the technical details and functions that are included in this build are phenomenal! The build is definitely challenging; I had retrace building steps several times as I had the wrong pieces left over at the end of a bag set. Nothing that can't be solved. The yellow pieces where a pleasant surprise, I don't think I have any pieces similar in a bright yellow like this. My only gripe with this set is the mold marks on the lego pieces. I have not encountered this on other sets, even as recent as the Ferrari. For the pieces in this set, there is always a good side and one side that has a mold ... MoreWOW is all I can say about this helicopter build. It was a bit painful to make sure the good sides where outward facing.Overall I still give this 5 stars as it is a excellent set, a very rewarding build with a lot of technical functions I have not seen in any other set.
This was by far the most complicated build I've done/seen. You REALLY need to pay attention to each step, and there were at least a few that were very difficult to decipher which lead to having to take it apart, figure out what was in the wrong place (had to research online) and correct. Please note this is just feedback as the build was incredible and very engaging! As for some of the comments about the tail section being flimsy - I did not experience (or feel) that was an issue. The only thing I would improve is the landing gear motorized function. It does the job but I'd rather not hear "clicks" when the gear if fully extended or retracted, and I would think with a motor it would be able to lift the unit up (if you hold it it works fine, but if you try to have ... Keep them coming!
I absolutely love this Lego set, I’d even go so far as to say it’s my new favourite! The finished model is visually stunning and extremely detailed. The colour scheme is great, the new luminous yellow is a fab addition. Although the set is just over 2000 pieces, the build is incredibly complex and took me 28 hours, although I did make a mistake on the gearbox stage which I had to go back and correct. There are some very fiddly segments to construct, but hardly any repeated methods. The motorised features are glorious! The spinning rotors add to the realism of the model. The winch works well, as does the retractable landing gear, although the landing gear shouldn’t be retracted under the weight of the model, as the
My older son loves helicopters and I figured he would love building this. He's been working on it a little at a time and he's not completely done putting it together. However, it's so far turning out to be an amazing Lego set and project for him. The instructions are detailed and have been easy to follow. I love that the bags are marked according to stages. This technic set is amazing with the moving parts. I would use caution with the rotors around the face. The landing gear is an awesome touch. This is one of the Lego sets that takes a while to build which we have liked as it gives Dad a chance weasel is way in to getting to do some of it under the guise of wanted to spend time with his son.Overall, this is turning out to be a family effort and lots of fun building.
