I loved it! My boyfriend and I played these until everything is unlocked and we beat it 100%, but that's with any game. There is always a lot of humor. These kind of games stick to the movie's story line, so you will have an easier time if you watched them. Graphics are great. These are great for kids because there isn't blood and guts.. if a person is killed; their Lego bodies fall apart then reassemble. Gold is your best friend in all of the Lego games. They can be glitchy and occasionally freeze, but they are so good that it is a minor issue. Particularly violent scenes are made easier and more pleasant by substituting it for something funny that still gets the point across.

A fun, pointless, romp

Let's start off with the bad; the story only covers the first two movies and the DLC to add the 3 movie was canceled, so the story isn't resolved in game. The different characters have a variety of skills for navigating the environment, and later in the game you get a large number of items with extra abilities, which should be a positive. However, the menu system is way too clunky to support all these options, and since your companions are a bunch of dwarves it takes a while to remember who has the ability you need. The combat is nothing to write home about. Okay, that's out of the way.The environments make excellent use of the Lego style, both building them up and smashing them apart. The levels are fun excuses to wreck havok, and the story sections are pretty ... MoreLet's start off with the bad; the story only covers the first two movies and the DLC to add the 3 movie was canceled, so the story isn't resolved in game. Most of the individual abilities are fun to use and there are a ton of opportunities to use them both in level and on the massive world map. The game has good use of 2 player co-op whether you're teaming up in the story or wandering separately across the world. Despite the lack of an ending, there's a ton of content here.

I expected the disk to honestly have many scratches on it as any preowned PlayStation 2 game would. But this one has very little to no scratches which is appreciated. It also came with the manual which is always an amazing bonus with these old games.

But where's Smaug--
2 October 2015

After playing Lego games for many many years, I was looking forward to another great game by Tt. Sadly they let us down with this game. While game play and story have been just as good as the rest, it looks like money and deadlines won over giving a finalized product to the customer. As I finished the story mode following the second movie, I turned off the game for the night, ready to pick up the story again in the morning and head into the final movie. I walked all over the freeplay map for over an hour looking for the next stage only to search online and find out they never added it as they put out the game before the movie was out and decided that it was not worth making it available as DLC.I, along with 1000's of other disappointed fans we sadly let down to ... MoreAfter playing Lego games for many many years, I was looking forward to another great game by Tt. Fun! But...
25 August 2016

Being a fan of both book and movies of the Hobbit, i really enjoyed the game. I finished it in about 12 hours (althou i am an adult, lol). I found a few parts of the game to have tricky moments, and had troubles getting past them, but overall, the game was pretty easy and definitely easy enough for kids. BUT i was a bit disappointed to discover that it only led up to the dragon leaving the mountain and go to LakeTown.. in reference to the movies, the game ended at the end of the 2nd movie. I was looking forward to shooting down Smaug with a black arrow and fighing in the battle of 5 armies and then hoped to going back home to the Shire to find my stuff being auctioned off and maybe a side mission to getting my stuff back like it said in the book and movies. Good Lego game title
8 July 2022

This seems so far to be a good Lego game title - it reminds me a lot of Lego Batman 2 game, but harder than Lego Batman 2. Have the Lego Lord of the Rings as well and I think it's better, but this one is good. So far I had to Internet search several times to figure stuff out, as its not as intuitive as Lego Batman 2 or LOTR. It's has a little more the feel of Lego Star wars force awakens for difficulty.

Great game, even after years.

This was a childhood game, so nostalgia. It follows the books pretty closesly, but adds in some extra turns and details. You meet Corwin and Leanna, two original characters who help the hobbit at different points in the adventure. I was expecting Tauriel to be more like Leanna, but was disappointed. Some of these characters get more development than those in the movie. For instance, you can always speak to every dwarf, and they each have unique commentary on the adventure. You also hear tidbits and information while sneaking around; it really helps the worldbuilding. My one con is that lots of the book is explained away in cutscenes that move you fromnplace to place. Beorn you only really meet in game at the end. For an older game, though, its a staple in my gaming ... MoreThis was a childhood game, so nostalgia. Ill probably even make my friends play it! The graphics are old, sure, and its got pretty generic, guided gameplay, but the cutscenes can be really nice, and their voice actors for Gollum and Smaug are cool. In a world of online first shooters, a puzzle-third person-strategy game for kids is really refreshing. I can replay this game often enough for nostalgia; it is just really fun and friendly.

Lego Game Lover
9 June 2017

I've played the Lego Star Wars, Lord of the Rings, Indian Jones, and Batman games and I thoroughly enjoy all of them. Unfortunately, this is by far the glitch-y-est of the Lego games. There are quests that don't work, screens that won't load (or won't go away once loaded) and characters that randomly disappear. There's also a "character modification" section that's VERY difficult to get right without a cheat-sheet as the 'models' you're working off of are sideways and there's no way to zoom in.The play-through and the plot follow the movies, just like the other Lego games, and still include a lot of that physical humor enjoyed in all their games (the detached hand gag from the Star Wars game lives on!).All in all a good game for adults and kids alike, just be ... MoreI've played the Lego Star Wars, Lord of the Rings, Indian Jones, and Batman games and I thoroughly enjoy all of them. There and back again.

As a huge self proclaimed nerd and massive fan of everything middle earth, I love this game. I sat and played for four whole hours as soon as it arrived and completed the plot of the first film, while talking along with all the voice lines. The graphics are good and entertaining, and the humour is just right. It's perfect for kids too; instead of Thrain's head being cut off brutally, it flies up in the air and lands back on his neck but facing the wrong way. As for the copy itself, the quality is excellent. It's obviously not brand new as it's not still in its wrapper, but it may as well be. The disc is in perfect condition and the case itself bears only a few scratches, seemingly from being slid out from its place between two other games on a shelf so often. Very fun

Very fun gameplay. I love how the voices come straight from the movie trilogy. I wish it had more character access and time to freely roam Middle-Earth. Overall it is a really fun game.
