Leica MP is simply the best, there is no way around it. However, buying my first Leica with BHphoto is probably the best decision I’ve had. I had experience with Adorama but BHphoto customer service is far superior. No return return fees (Adorama does make you pay return fees), exchange/return convenience, and fast shipping. If you decide between the two, BHphoto would be the best option as it gives you a peace of mind knowing that they will take care their customer. I've read all of the glowing reviews about the MP, the legendary build quality, hand made German mechanical perfection, how beautiful the black paint is, etc. and for the most part I concur and love mine. I purchased mine from B&H which is where I have gotten 99% of my photo gear and accessories for years - they are great. My problem is with Leica customer/repair services. Near the end of my three year factory warranty, occasionally the meter LED's in the viewfinder began blinking alternately - the center O led would not blink. I replaced the battery a couple of times - did all I could to check for the obvious. Since this issue was intermittent and would often go days without showing up, and the camera would otherwise function fine, I put off calling Leica in NJ. I finally did call and talked with a rep who was to send my info to the service department coordinator. Some four days later the gentleman called me and advised I send the MP to them and because by then it was just out of warranty made a note that Leica would cover the cost of any repairs needed. Today I received an estimate of $1,100 for the repairs. The estimate stated the EXTERIOR SHOW SIGNS OF HEAVY USE which is laughable. I bought this camera to use, not to add to a collection. But, it has been babied and is either in a bag or around my neck. Never dropped or banged into anything. The only brass showing is at the tip of the film advance lever. I bought this for my 65th birthday and just had finished paying for it.....Mine may be an isolated case, I want to think so but in talking with the service supervisor, he advised me that a lot of the old-times in the service department had retired and they were having problems training new people. Leica forums generally do not speak highly of the service department - I had mostly ignored those comments until my experience....Hopefully, Leica and I can come to some agreement as to the repair.....The accessories are very expensive as well......Just saying.

A beautiful camera inside out! I have owned and used a Rollei 35 for couple of years and it made me fall in love with the film photography. So I decided to give Leica a try. My first one was M3 but photos came either under- or over-exposed roll after roll. I tried three (!) external light meters, including those by Leica ? and it still did not yield the results I was looking for. It just did not feel right for me. So I sold it and almost decided to keep shooting with Rollei when the backordered MP was delivered (I waited for 5+ months since placing the order). I fell in love with the camera from first sight and first film load. Excellent Build Quality
2 January 2014

I purchased the Leica MP with a 35mm F/2 Summicron and use this for general walk-around/travel photography. I don't consider myself a street photographer, but I've been intrigued with rangefinder cameras for quite some time. Build quality is amazing. The camera feels like a solid block of metal. I would have preferred a match needle meter instead of the LED lights, but there's really not much to complain about. I'm a left-eye shooter, so things can get a little uncomfortable with the winder, but I'm used to that from my older cameras. Holding the camera properly takes some getting used to. I found myself covering the rangefinder mirror on the right side by accident on a few occassions. Also, I wish faster shutterspeeds were available, but I understand there are ... MoreI purchased the Leica MP with a 35mm F/2 Summicron and use this for general walk-around/travel photography. Overall, the MP is a pleasure to use, and is quickly becoming my favorite camera.

Great camera, but....
10 May 2024

These are great cameras if nostalgic for Leica M rangefinders and you know exactly what to expect assuming you are familiar with these models. There are a few things you should know. Expect the black paint enamel to wear off with normal use resulting in a brassing patina. It is not due to abuse but just the nature of applied enamel. More concerning is that even though it is based on their M camera from the 1960s, Leica has made some cost cutting internal changes compared to models like the M3 and M4 so don't be surprised if it might need service in a few years. If anything acts up out of the ordinary while under warranty, send it in even if intermittent like the light meter circuitry as it will be costly out of warranty. I know this from experience.

Leica MP - A must if you can.
9 January 2018

I’ve been looking longingly at this camera for quite a long time. Recently, I was in the position financially to commit and am very glad I did.I’ve read nearly everything online about this camera and watched all of the reviews. One of the recurring themes seemed to be having to use it to really understand it, something I thought somewhat ridiculous and probably just a coping mechanism to justify the large amount of dough these people just dropped. But, as soon as I cocked the shutter, held it in my hands and shot a frame, it was something I understood immediately. There really is something intangibly great about this camera. Operation cannot be any smoother. The feel cannot be better. Leica MP Black paint 35mm Rangefinder camera

I have been using Leica camera since 2003 and with this new Leica MP I really enjoy using these cameras. The MP is a joy to work with and the quality is amazing. I have used Nikon digital cameras since 2001 but when using a Leica, it makes you slow down and and look for the right moment to shoot a photo. Thank you again. the service and delivery of the camera was very quick within a few days of ordering, I revived the camera. Thank you, Mikel Flamm

The MP is exactly what I wanted
20 September 2017

The MP is exactly what I wanted. After many years using various rangefinders both film and digital I decided to move up to my dream rangefinder. It is a manual camera with a built in meter. Very much old school in operation and quality. It is the antithesis of digital spray and pray. For those who are looking to return to film shooting, this or one of the other Leica film cameras MA or M7 would be your top choice. It is a real joy to use, smooth, solid, compact and quiet and unobtrusive.

The very best, period.
26 January 2023

I enjoy using all kinds of cameras for various types of photography, including Nikon SLRs I can praise endlessly. That being said, this is the pinnacle of simplicity and function. With this you just make pictures with ease and accuracy and mechanical perfection. You will want nothing more and get nothing less than what you need. A huge selection of lenses from leica to Voigtlander will give you anything you want at any price point but with the solid foundation of a camera body that just works. There is nothing like a brand new MP.

This is the goat

When it comes to rangefinders, this is the goat. It will outlast you. There is nothing quite like it. I don't even want to look at the re-issue M6. The value of the MP will appreciate as evident by its steadily increased pricing over the years. When you pass this camera to your grandchildren, they will appreciate the value. Need I say more?
