Whilst the outgoing model that the new D2 replaces had a manual fold-out end piece, the new Disto D2 has an automatic version. In other words, whether you're taking measurements from corners, edges or grooves within a surface, simply extending the end piece tells the Disto that you're measuring from that point. The unit automatically takes the position of the end piece into account and eliminates costly mistakes. Only marginally larger than its sibling, the D110, the all-new D2 measures just 116 x 44 x 26mm in size - quite incredibly small considering the advanced functionality packed inside. Despite its small size the 2016 D2 is highly durable and fit to face almost anything the modern work site can throw at it. IP54-rated, the D2 is protected against water splashes and dust ingress. A real step in convenience and range from its predecessor, the all new D2 makes taking length, height and width measurements a breeze thanks to its ergonomic case, intuitive controls and super-clear 3 line, backlit digital display. Other functions include a timer function, a stake out function, min/max facility, Pythagoras function, painter function and the ability add/subtract. The advanced Bluetooth Smart v4.0 connectivity built into the all-new Leica Disto D2 gives the user the ability to transfer their measurement data to their smart phone or tablet allows the user to transfer their measurements directly to their smart phone or tablet and, from their mobile device, straight to their home or office computers without ever leaving site. What's more, once connected to a compatible phone or tablet, the user can download and use the free Leica Disto Sketch app which produces simple floor/wall plans and even allows the user to overlay measurements directly on top of photographs.

Great tool, well thought out, works great !! Has a few options that no one else has. Seems to be very true and accurate. The instrument is wonderful, the instructions could use a lot more details.

The Leica Disto D2BT laser measure looks terrific, feels secure in the hand and screams high end Swiss precision. If your measurements require high accuracy and dependability this is as good as it gets.On the minus side.No fixing point for regular tripod if using Pythagoras feature.Memory feature confusingly stores last 10 readings in reverse order.Bluetooth feature is a great novelty but just seems quicker to write readings down on prepared list.Red laser dot hard to see on sunny days (not too much of a problem in UK)

Great device with a couple of, in my view, design inferiorities compared with the old D2. Bottom corners chamfered I can not figure out why, but corners are crucial referential points. The absence of corners is confusing where exactly the edge is. The red button got a bit harder to press which when applying stronger pressure needed can result in altering/losing aimed direction by the device being moved. The screen is brighter which is good, hence the shorter battery life, but that is OK.

For years i have loved the quality of any roots products. Something that i made sure was part of my own wardrobe as a new emigrant to me it represented 🇨🇦 and eventually my children's wardrobe. Now they are buying for their own children. If i want to give them a gift that i know is excellent quality and a product i can trust “roots” is my go too. When i go back home and i want to take a gift Roots is a Canadian symbol to me. I also have never had a negative customer story experience where ever i have shopped. ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
After owning and using this laser distance meter for several weeks I find that it works as advertised and is accurate, light weight, and compact. However, operationally the buttons are difficult to press, especially when aiming at a specific spot across a long distance. You will find that registering a reading exactly where you want it, essential for accurate readings, is challenging and often takes multiple attempts because the laser moves when pushing the stiff button. Two hands are required to use this meter. Also, use in bright conditions such as sunlight is difficult. I would recommend this product as long as you are aware of the product's limitations.
This is a very well made, accurate, well priced, measuring device that's made in Hungary/Europe, NOT China. It includes a very nice padded holster with a velcro belt clip, wrist lanyard, and a free, basic, Bluetooth, drawing app that works great. Notes:- The onboard tools for adding/subtracting measurements and calculating angled measurements are helpful.- The Bluetooth connected to my work iPhone quickly with no issues. It has Android too.- The padded case is made very well, padded, and has a velcro belt loop, so you don't have to open your belt.- The Leica Bluetooth drawing app works well and allows you to draw walls and drag/drop the measurements to walls on your phone. There appear to be more advanced software versions for a monthly or flat fee. The free version ... The free version works great for my work application of simply measuring room sizes in commercial buildings.- There is a Three Year Warranty - it appears to be Two Years with an additional Year if you register online.- It works outside, but on bright days it is very difficult to see the laser on surfaces. In these cases I hold the Measure button and move it while watching the constant readout until I hit the target.- When you hold the Measure button it gives a constant real-time distance display, which is very helpful. It locks in when you release it.- A 330'/100M distance capacity for around $150 is a very good value. So far, I'm extremely pleased with this measuring tool and I use it regularly for work. Thanks to Leica for making such a quality, well priced, product. And thanks for not making it in China! So glad HD carried this.
I bought this D2 after finally managing to break my Leica Disto Classic which I'd had for 18 years and which has earned it's 300 original cost many, many times over during this time. I found that the D2 did everything my old Classic could do, it's a quarter of the size & weight, uses half the number of batteries and cost just 129; it fits easily into my pocket. I used it on a building survey two days after I bought it and it's paid for itself already. Can't recommend it highly enough.
I bought one at the Surfaces flooring convention in Las Vegas about twenty years ago, and it finally died. It's about 4 times larger than my new one. It was kind of like owning an old flip phone.Even up to a few weeks ago, people would look at it in amazement thinking it was some new technology.I have told hundreds of my customers that it's the best tool I have ever owned.I'am a flooring contractor in the Boston area and since 1980 I have been contracting with some of the largest colleges in the country. Trying to measure floors using a tape measurer while students are walking all around the room is impossible.Once I bought my first DISTO, I just held it above everyones head and they never even noticed me.It would take me a half hour to measure a 200 ft dorm ... Just last week, while measuring some floors at Harvard, a facilities person asked me if I would do him a favor and take a measurement from the floor to the ceiling. As we walked out of the building, he said he was ordering one also.Thank you for making such a high end product.Steve MessinaJ&S Floor Covering Co.Belmont Ma.
Leica makes excellent tools, and this is no exception. I was looking for another laser distance meter that was more compact to fit in my tool bag that didn't need to have a lot of features, and this was it. My original Leica meter is about 15 years old and still going strong, but wanted a second.
The laser itself is excellent: light, precise, not expensive, regular batteries (not built in, which I really hate). On the other hand it has a serious drawback: if the surface is even slightly reflective, it gets stuck, it is not able to take readings. I work in constructions, with aluminium frames, and it's a problem, even if the aluminium is mat. In such cases I have to use the more expensive Bosch, or to spray the surface with some mat paint. Maybe I should buy the much better (and more expensive) 7500i, which also has a pointfinder. Most of the time it does the job, so I've got no special complaints.
