Redeveloped while retaining impressive imaging and optical attributes, the Leica Q2 is an advanced compact camera characterized by its updated sensor design and intuitive operation. Revolving around a revised full-frame 47.3MP CMOS sensor and Maestro II image processor, high-resolution stills shooting is possible along with both DCI and UHD 4K video recording. The image processor also contributes to a broad ISO 50-50000 sensitivity range along with quick 10-fps full-resolution continuous shooting. The added resolution also affords a series of unique Crop Modes, which simulate working with longer focal length lenses, including 35mm, 50mm, and 75mm fields of view. Speaking of the lens, the Q2 features the same impressive wide-angle prime Summilux 28mm f/1.7 ASPH. fixed lens, which has been matched to the sensor design for exceptional resolution and clarity. The lens's design incorporates three aspherical elements and its bright f/1.7 maximum aperture suits working in low-light conditions. Additionally, a macro setting permits working with subjects as close as 6.7" away. Complementing the imaging and optical assets, the Q2 remains an especially compact and intuitive camera, well-suited for street and travel photography. Its sleek magnesium alloy body is weather-sealed for working in trying environments and it has adopted the same battery featured in the flagship SL mirrorless camera for longer battery life. A high-resolution 3.68MP OLED electronic viewfinder is featured for fluid and clear eye-level monitoring and a rear 3.0" 1.04m-dot touchscreen LCD also affords straightforward playback and settings control. Built-in Bluetooth LE and Wi-Fi permit wireless sharing and remote camera control from a linked mobile device via the Leica FOTOS app.

I've shot a lot of different cameras over the years, from the Leica M6 to Pentax, to Canon to the latest Olympus OM-D E-M10 Mark III and other more obscure stuff (Bessa R2A, etc). And they all have their trade-offs.This one is utterly good as long as you know what you are doing.I've had an explosion of compliments on photos I've shared since I got this camera. If you follow Peter Karbe's advice on how to use his lenses, it will change the way you take pictures.Listen to his lectures on Leica lens designs, but the gist of it is there is so much useful resolution out of this lens-sensor combo that it is no longer necessary to prioritize composition.Instead you should prioritize capturing the decisive moment and re-compose in post-process.Effectively we ... (My Olympus E-M10 is way better than the Q2M)

This is the coolest camera ever. The images are nothing short of magical. The quality of the files and the performance benefit of the dedicated black and white sensor leave almost nothing to be desired. Yes, it is expensive. But I'm not kidding when I say this - this camera makes it truly hard to take a bad picture! The physical design and quality of the camera body and the lens are purely Leica and thus top-notch. The macro setting works great and has a nice mechanical feel (as does the aperture ring). The Fotos app makes transferring, editing (with Adobe Lightroom) and exporting images a breeze. I shoot in raw but am almost always satisfied by the JPEGs this camera produces. They are excellent. I should also mention that the low-light capabilities of this camera ... I shoot in raw but am almost always satisfied by the JPEGs this camera produces. They are excellent. I should also mention that the low-light capabilities of this camera are leagues above any other camera I've ever shot. It is nearly ISO invariant and can capture images literally in the dark. Not only that, these images are low-noise and amazingly sharp. The tonality of the images this camera produces is hard to describe. It is simply stunning and completely different from B&W converted images I get with my D750. The blacks are perfectly black and the whites are perfectly white. It's almost frighteningly sharp at all apertures and the 47MP sensor leaves a ton of room for cropping. I've attached a series of pictures to attempt to demonstrate this.If I had to find things I don't like, it would be the ridiculously expensive extra batteries ($285!) and the 80+MB raw files.I bought this camera because I wanted to reignite my long-standing passion for photography by getting back to the essentials (simple cameras, B&W). That being said, I wouldn't hesitate to buy this for professional use as well. Take this camera to a wedding and you will come back with shots you simply cannot get with color cameras due to the low-light performance. You'll also get plenty of comments like "hey! That's a cool camera!"

Let's get few things straight, I'm a gear addict especially when it comes to fixed lens cameras. I have and or currently own the Ricoh GR I, II and III, the Fujifilm X100, X100s, the Fujifilm X70, the Sony RX1RII, the Sony RX100 V and VI, and even though not truly fixed lens the Fujifilm X-E3 and X-E4 paired with the 2.8/27 fixed lens. Just to say that I have experienced a plethora of larger format sensor fixed bodies. I have been lusting after the Leica Q2 for a while now and couldn't justify the purchase until I realized that I could have owned 2 of those if I didn't appease my GAS with the other cameras.I've had the camera for a few weeks and I can not get over how wonderful it feels in the hands. The ergonomics are almost perfect, I would have placed the ... I love my Fuji X-E4, but when I reached for it after using the Leica for a while, the Fuji just felt cheap (please don't tell it). The closest to the Leica I own is the Sony RX1RII, its a great camera as well, however the buttons are jammed and too small and the viewfinder doesn't even hold a candle to the Leica. The trump card of the Leica, is the focusing ring, the manual focus on the cameras and the ability to pre-focus are a delight to use. When you break down what makes a camera a pleasure to use, you think of the ergonomics, EVF, focusing, and battery life. In all these categories The Q2 wins handsomely. The camera powers up quickly and is very responsive, I haven't had any issue with focus, I haven't used it in rapid fire mode but I'm told it is more than capable, focus locks very quickly, and the image review is spontaneous. The image quality is what you expect from a modern 47 MPX sensor, the only other camera that offers some competition here is the RX1MII, that said the Sony is not stabilized, and the shake is noticeable at slower shutter speeds. With the OIS included in the Leica it is a joy to use. The bokeh you get at f/1.7, even at 28 mm is a joy. Overall, I wish I bought this camera when it came out and used it over the last 2 years. If you can justify it, and you are looking for a great travel/street/everyday camera, no questions asked, go for it.
This really is an excellent camera - comfortable in the hand, responsive, intuitive controls - a joy to shoot with. The lens is phenomenal, and the transition from auto to manual focus is intuitive and easy to switch back and forth at will. For whatever reason, it feels like a hug relief to move away from the “projected”ergonomically shaped handgrip of most modern camera to a classic rangefinder design. The raw files and jpegs are both beautiful. The only limitations I have see with this are the highlights. Underexpose it by at least ⅓ of a stop (⅓ if you are using JPGs - or up to 1 or 2 stops for raw files) to make sure you capture enough detail. You can recover the shadows with raw files easily. Native ISO is around 100.Honestly it is tough to find a modern ... MoreThis really is an excellent camera - comfortable in the hand, responsive, intuitive controls - a joy to shoot with. As a huge plus, Leica has a phenomenal mobile app/remote that pairs quickly is a joy to use on the iPhone (I haven’t tried the Android version) I only wish Sony could produce something half as polished.
Bought in July 2021 and it's now the camera I reach for the most. This beautifully crafted weather sealed magnesium alloy work of art is just so much fun to shoot with. The 28 mm works for travel, street, landscapes and even portraits if framed correctly, plus simple 4K video clips. Shot a ton of photos this year in Montreal and Quebec just with the Q2 mostly at night and loved the results. High Iso noise cleaned up well.Easily customized. Wonderfully accessible menu. Files are beautiful and ultra sharp from 1.7 on. Easy to crop if needed with a ridiculous amount of megapixels. Love the macro mode and also using manual zone focus on the street for quick shooting. Takes you back in time but it is also ultra modern in its capabilities.Sounds corny but it's the only camera I've ever owned that makes me feel so connected to the process, quick or slow, of making a photo that I just want to grab it and shoot just about anything but wildlife for which I use my Canon gear.Very expensive but it has replaced all my other fast lenses and camera bodies for almost all daily carry use. When you add up the price of a fast Canon RF lens and an R5 or the equivalent in a Nikon or Sony, you've easily spent the same amount or more and at least for me, this one is just such a pure joy to shoot with, that the others are now used only for very specific purposes and events. Highly recommended!
Rented for a friends bachelor party camping trip as well as photographing the florals I helped set up since I didn't wish to carry my Fujifilm 100S during either event. It performed exceptionally well, the form factor was perfect, and the resolution was more then ample, allowing me to really grab some incredible details. Though it can't quite match my medium format, 47mp full frame was beyond my expectations. The color science was beautiful, and I enjoyed trying out the Leica look for once.Ergonomically, it's not as carefree as some of the online reviews would have you believe, the UI does take a few to get use to, and switching into manual focus isn't exactly intuitive (there's a tiny notch on the manual focus grip that you have to press to unlock manual focus), ... UI is better than all the Japanese camera makers, but I think Hasselblad might have a better UI. The right dial which I had set to exposure compensation is difficult to rotate if your thumb is too dry or it's misty out.Shot for two days straight on the camp trip, still had 30% battery, took around 400 shots, so battery life is excellent. Wish you could charge via USB directly to the camera, but I think that'll be a Q3 function.Overall, a great travel camera built like an absolute unit.Lens Rentals were once again a dream team of customer service. I've only ever had service this good two other places, the Bangkok Mandarin Oriental and the Sofitel Krabi. Lens Rentals is on the level of one of the worlds greatest hotels. They shipped to me early, essentially giving me a free day to get to grips with the camera, and I completely forgot to send the charger back with the rest of the camera (exhausted from a 5 day crunch schedule), but they sent me another UPS shipping label without question and didn't give me a hard time about it, despite it being completely my fault. Lens Rentals is consistently making me happy with their above and beyond service.
First let me say the expedited shipping from B&H was on point. Ordered it on a Tuesday, had it in hand on Thursday. Thank you B&H! I've spent a few days now with my Q2 and must say it has performed beautifully. I've put it through its paces in Landscape and Street and must say, as others have said, the Q2 provides one with a stellar shooting experience. The menu system is wonderful. Coming from a Sony background the logic behind the menu layout and operation makes so much sense. In hand, the Q2 is solid, balanced, weather sealed and built like a tank. I did order the Thumb support and find it a worthwhile addition. The images coming out of the Q2 are incredibly satisfying. I've only shot in RAW so far and the DNG files are superb. I have been a dedicated Nikon user since 2008 and for years was sure the D850 would be my next camera but that all changed when I came across the Leica Q2. Despite the Q2 being a very different, and in most respects far more limiting camera, altogether I found myself irresistibly drawn to the Q2 over the D850 and am glad I made the switch. The quality and craftsmanship of the Q2 is truly unparalleled and well worth the high price. The sharpness and clarity of images produced by this camera are the best I've ever experienced, absolutely no distortion or aberrations, with outstanding dynamic range.Couldn't be happier I chose to go with the monochrom version. I don't miss shooting in color and like many who chose the monochrom have found my creativity is now more ... It's so easy to take anywhere, especially over long distances/periods & draws very little attention. The Q2 is also super easy to operate & utilizes one of the simplest/efficient control layouts. The only drawbacks to the Q2 from my perspective: It's limited to accepting one SD card and has pretty short battery life.
After years of shooting film professionaly on 4x5, 2 1/4, 35 mm, working in both B/W and color labs through college and after, I have finally found a digital camera that stands up to the medium.I own older digilux and V Lux cameras, but this is another animal altogether. The Q2M is the ultimate 'street photographer' camera. It's just a dream to walk around with and capture the moments, be it a friends party, a cityscape, a wedding, an interesting landscape, an old building... and on. The lens is exquisote and has a bokeh like none other.F1.8 turns photographs into paintings. The camera size is perfect. Big enough that all the controls are right there, small enough to be unobtrusive and concealed. The image quality is breathtaking.Even at larger print sizes, ... Worth every penny and really adds a level of safety and control when handling the camera. If you want to shoot B/W, this is the way to go.Can't wait for the Q3... I have a feeling it will be breathtaking as well...
