I've had this Chromebook for almost a year now. I picked it up around Black Friday time in 2021 for $130. It has been perfect with no problems whatsoever. I make a point to not let the battery drain completely and also to not let it sit on the charger after it's reached 100%. The battery health indicator still states that it's at 98% battery health, which is pretty amazing to me after about 11 months of use.I only use it for browsing the internet, bidding on auctions, managing photos, Webull (stock brokerage), Netflix, and paying bills because of the built-in security. I couldn't tell you how it would handle processing in depth programs, but I would expect people would want to pay a little more for something like that. As the title suggests, this chrome book is an excellent value when on sale. If you are paying full price ($319 USD) I would consider a different chrome book as there are better options in that price range. I bought this on sale for 189.This review is for mode 82KN0001US (the touch screen mode). It runs as smooth as butter for your basic internet browsing and movie/Streaming needs. It comes with the mediatek 8183 processor which is what you would want at this price range. Added bonus is the 64gb eMMC vs 32gb which pretty much all other chrome books at this price range with a touch screen have. Also note it’s a 14” screen vs 11” screens at this price point.Multiple browsing tabs don’t slow this machine down. It’s a matte touch screen so it does well in bright rooms and helps to avoid smudge marks. Even viewing off center (see image) isn’t bad. Sound is great when watching by yourself - would def get drowned out in a classroom like setting with everyone chatting. Touch pad is slightly flimsy and can seem a little inaccurate at times but it’s not a deal breaker. I bought this for my grade school girls to practice their iReady tests / get used to laptops / virtual homework on seesaw / and for other basic computing. If spread sheets are your thing; I would not rec this as the system does slow down. Even using Google docs for excel; just scrolling down the excel sheet got me frustrated due to the “lag.”Picture editing beyond cropping / rotating / red eye auto removal would probably be too much for this.Would I buy this again? Yes for the sale price. Do not buy this if you think it will replace your work desktop or work laptop where you using MS office suite regularly. It’s really a basic machine that does all the basics perfectly.

Purchased to give child a larger screen and keyboard/mouse capabilities on apps and to remote connect for days when school was done remotely. For a Chromebook, it is a solid device, holds charge, and handles all the tasks my child through at it. The operating system does have its limitations -- so I did find myself wishing I had gone with a Windows laptop instead so more software could be installed and used. But that is a lesson learned. Also found out that some of the remote school software did not work correctly even though Google Classroom should have been fully compatible. But software issues are not the fault of this Chromebook. For the price, this worked well for at least 90% of things my child needed.

Okay, I'm a tech guy here so yall can trust what I'm about to say. I got this Chromebook because my windows laptop decided to crap out on me over winter break. I'm a college student so I need to have a computer. I needed to get something cheap as like many college students I'm pretty strapped for cash. That's why I turned to Chromebook. I could find any other 14in with an 8-core CPU in it. If yall are getting this for college work make sure that you check the CPU specs as Chromebooks can run on pretty crappy CPUs since the operating system is lightweight. Don't bother with any Dual-core machine if you're going to be doing any amount of multitasking. Overall switching from windows to chrome OS wasn't that bad and it does everything I need it to for college. Yes, it ... MoreOkay, I'm a tech guy here so yall can trust what I'm about to say. Yes, it cant run some of the high-end software that some classes will need but those are few and far in between. If you come across yourself needing proper desktop software for a class just use your university's online remote desktop which should allow you to get access to any software your university has license for and use it through a virtual machine on the browser. Overall, the screen is okay, smashes through multiple browser taps & apps open at the same time, has great battery life (I have to charge mine every other day or so), speakers are just eh, and the price is great.
tl;dr: The 2023 Lenovo IdeaPad Slim 3 14" is a great value in a clamshell touchscreen Chromebook with superior battery life and a distant June of 2032 AUE date (two years longer than even the "hot new" HP Dragonfly Pro introduced at the same time.) It does everything a Chromebook should! It has USB-C (which can be used to drive a second display at least FHD), USB A, and a uSD slot. The plastic case feels sturdy and stiff and not cheap; bulkier than the metal-cased HP 13G1 it replaced but is still sub- 3 lbs. Backlit keyboard and a fingerprint reader would be nice but are not typical at this price point. Camera is as expected beyond having a physical shutter. With 4GB of memory and the low power/long battery life MediaTek Kompanio 520 CPU, it has been snappy and responsive in everything I've used it for, constrained only by the network and web; so, this makes it just what a Chromebook should be. It stays cool to the touch doing everything I've asked of it. (If it has a fan, I've never heard it.) My only complaint is that the case finish and color show every fingerprint. The extended AUE date is a cherry on top. Did I mention it has great battery life?
I got this on sale for $179. At that price there's nothing you can get that's better. There's a non-touch version of this laptop. Don't buy it. The touch version has a much better screen (IPS vs TN) that's worth the usually 20 or so bucks more. It's not going to blow you away with its speed - it is an older Mediatek chip after all - but for general purpose computing it's perfectly fine. The upward firing speakers may look like they should be good, but they aren't. They're kind of quiet and tinny. But the speakers, along with a lack of a backlit keyboard and the plastic touchpad, are how Lenovo keeps the price down. However, it looks good, it performs decently, it has a nice screen, and it even has a physical sliding camera cover. Got this for my kid for school. The build quality is good and he's happy with the performance. He's been using the school's Chromebooks for a couple of years now and he's happy with his own now. It can handle some light web gaming just fine. Can do HDMI with a USB-C to HDMI adapter, however you will lose the ability to charge at the same time, but battery life is quite good! Wi-fi is acceptable but not great. I'm used to Macbook Pros and i7 Gaming Laptops and the Wifi in this Chromebook isn't nearly as good, unfortunately, but that's understandable in a machine of this class. The speakers are above average sounding better than my gaming laptop, but not as good as my work Macbook pro.My kid really liked the color since it wasn't your typical black or silver/gray. I was skeptical of the MediaTek chip, but it seems to be doing just fine. For the price, this seems like a great machine so far and has a great AUE date out to June 2032 so there is plenty of life in this machine. I wish it had 8 GB of RAM, but again for the price point, 4GB seems pretty standard and sufficient.
This computer deserves -5 stars!I've had plenty of Chromebooks in my life, and this is the first (and last) time I will ever purchase a Lenovo product. Right out of the box, it was giving me the dreaded "Aw, Snap!" error constantly. I only had ONE TAB OPEN, and it would go to the error message within seconds of being on any website or in my email. And it's impossibly slow just getting to the page! It's totally useless, and it's going back ASAP! Why does Best Buy sell such garbage and waste customers' time? Also, Lenovo's tech support, as well as their sales reps, were horrible. They sound like they're half asleep and don't want to work. It's been an all-around abysmal experience. If you want a quality product that will actually function, STAY AWAY FROM LENOVO!
Bought this as a replacement to my old laptop that was beat up and well used. This thing is doing everything I want it to do (surf the web, watch videos, yadda yadda), and sites it well. The screen is excellent, at 1080p with crisp colors and pretty good viewing angles. I was genuinely surprised with how nice the screen 14in is. And it's a touch screen, so bonus. The 8 core MediaTech ARM processor and 4 gigs of RAM give this thing enough juice to provide smooth experience when going about your business. The advantage of using a lightweight operating system like chrome os also is a factor here. The speakers are serviceable, if slightly muddy. They are loud enough without having to crank the volume to full, but if you would prefer to use your own headphones, no one ... MoreBought this as a replacement to my old laptop that was beat up and well used. They are loud enough without having to crank the volume to full, but if you would prefer to use your own headphones, no one would blame you. The speakers are no doubt the worst part of this laptop. The IO is very light, consisting of one USB-A port and one USB-C port (which also doubled a the charger plug in). There is also one 3.5mm jack for headsets and one micro SD port for expanding on the default 64 gigs of eMMC storage. The USB-C does support video out, so using a hub to hook this baby up to a monitor or TV isn't out of the question. If you're wanting to play games, you're not totally SOL here. Stadia comes pre installed and using the built in Bluetooth, you can pair a controller and away you go with all your cloud gaming needs, helped by the 5 gigahertz wifi connection. Android games work well enough, and emulating retro games shouldn't be much of a challenge. All in all, sub par speakers aside, this light little thing will fit the needs of several people, be it the student who needs to type of their report using the decent enough keyboard and track pad, grandma who just wants to go on the Facebook and look at what her friends and grandkids are up to, or the lighter user who wants to stream something off of Netflix or browse the web. This chromebook comes with this random Best Buy costumer's full recommendation.
I bought this for my Sister-In-Law and she says it is FANTASTIC!It does EXACTLY what she needs and wants. Nothing more and nothing less. It is fast (clocked a speednet download of 289 Mbps, plays both music and movies (in FHD!) easily and has yet to "buffer" either. They have their Pandora, Amazon Music and SiriusXM accounts on there along with the HEOS application for their Denon HEOS speakers and their Denon AVR-750S (all bought at Best Buy!) and can easily access these functions and devices throughout their home. The battery has averages 12 hours of use so far and they often just close the lid and leave it on for quick(er) access. This Chromebook is just want the needed and it also does everything the want it to do. Highly recommended?YES!
