I used a 3rd party service tech through Best Buy to instal the lock and it definitely took longer than it should have. This is not entirely a fault of the tech or the lock because my door has been challenging in general. However, when it comes to the motor, I am a little disappointed with how loose the lock has to be in order for the motor to function correctly. It requires minimal resistance or it will cause an error message and the lock will not function. It has failed on me during one occasion where I wasn’t able to get into my house. I’ve been paranoid about leaving my keys ever since. However, that has not happened again so I’m hopeful it was a one off.In general, if this lock functions for your use case I would recommend it. This is a really cool product that unfortunately didnt work for our situation.Install is straight forward, but I had to shave off a little bit of the inside of the deadbolt cavity to be able to have this unit sit flush and connect to the locking mechinism securely and plum. That wasnt a big deal I dealt with a with a box cutter and shaved off a few millimeters to get it to seat properly.Once seated I was able to get everything in and turning without issue. Then I installed the striker plate and that was thicker than the standard one removed from the existing hole. So I had to shave a little off that side as well to get the plate to seat flush and close right.Again not a huge deal..I was able to get it connected to my wifi and set up through the app without any problems.I was able to open and close the dead bolt manually. When I tried to use the app to activate the lock, it would get stuck. When I took a close look, on the door frame side, the standard hold is a square shape, while this unit is round and although it fits into that hole barely, if your door is not perfectly aligned it will get stuck so you have to push your door in or pull a little to allow the deadbolt to close. This is possible manually locking but the lock was not able to align without my intervention. So next step was to look into installing the included plate for the frame side. That plate is much smaller than the standard for the doors so it was leaving a large gap all around it making it look pretty unfinished and exposed. The way that it fit to expose wood and cavity was unsatisfactory for us.I then tried to connect to my Ring app to have control over this through Ring security. I was unable to do this because the Ring app was under my wife's name and this account wanted to connect to my Alexa account which was under my name. So in order to use that function I would have to disconnect all Echo devices from my amazon account, connect her Ring account through the Alexa app, which would make our Echo's disconnect from our main Amazon account...This was too much of a hassle and loss of function of our connected and main account and the way it make the plate look unfinished and misfit was the main reason we returned it.If you have a new door install where you can cut to the holes perfect for this unit that would be great. And if you are starting a new account or only have one amazon / ring account to connect to this that would also make this unit work well for you.We really liked how this preserved the look of our square door hardware and not make the smart lock noticeable but ultimately we had to make too many sacrifices to make it fit to our needs so we decided to forgo using this lock. The unit itself feels high quality and is well packaged with easy directions.Best of luck on your install experience and hope it works out for you because we really wish we could have kept this and used it.

This smart lock works flawlessly with Apple HomeKit. It also fits Schlage B60 series deadbolts like a glove. See attached pictures. Perfect for my garage access door. No more searching for keys when my hands are full of grocery bags. I just tell Siri on my Apple Watch to open the garage door deadbolt. It also work with the rest of my automations such as 1) Auto-lock when the last person leaves my house, 2) Turn-On the garage light whenever the deadbolt is unlocked. Automation possibilities are endless with this Level Lock and Apple HomeKit. The limit is your creativity and imagination. The concealed design makes it an inconspicuous smart lock which adds further security.

We previously had an August smart door lock - the big puck version. That worked fine - most of the time - but people would just stare at the door when they tried to exit, confused as to how the door opened. Although it was entertaining, that along with the hit or miss on whether it would connect and auto unlock lately drove us to look for something new. When I saw this fully internal smart lock option, I was elated! It was super easy to install and we no longer have confused guests. I will say that the bluetooth to auto unlock takes more time to recognize you have arrived home. We usually have to walk up to the door, wait about five seconds, and then you hear it unlock. Highly recommend!
I have been looking to upgrade the front lock on my house for some time now but never liked the look of the smart locks available plus I love the look of and the match of my current lock. Finally with Level Bolt Smart Lock I can get into the 21st century without having to lose the lock I have. First off and this is THE MOST IMPORTANT thing BEFORE buying this lock is to make 100% sure you get correct measurements and note whether your lock will work with this unit. Second make sure your current deadbolt does NOT bind, if it does, make adjustments until it locks and unlocks freely! First off and this is THE MOST IMPORTANT thing BEFORE buying this lock is to make 100% sure you get correct measurements and note whether your lock will work with this unit. Second make sure your current deadbolt does NOT bind, if it does, make adjustments until it locks and unlocks freely! That said let’s dive into the invisible Level Bolt smart lock!Packaging/in the box – The Level Bolt comes well packaged and includes in the box the Bolt itself, the motor, the strike plate, three tailpiece adapters, strikeplate and bolt plate screws, a long battery cap for long length bolts, the CR2 battery, and the instructions and layout sheet. Everything is very simple and straightforward to locate and layout with the included sheet.Installation – If you have ever installed a deadbolt before you will find this very easy to install. Simply remove your current deadbolt hardware and strikeplate. Then begin the installation by setting aside the current bolt and strikeplate as you will NOT need these going forward. Next determine which side the one way end connection needs to face and install the bolt into the door. Install the strikeplate and then with the bolt retracted, install the motor and check that everything lines up and moves freely with the door closed. NOTE OF CAUTION, be careful NOT to do as I did and leave the motor off the bolt when checking the alignment, as once I pushed the bolt through I could not retract it and thus had to use a screwdriver from the side to work it back to the retracted position. Once the alignment looks good install your remaining current lock hardware and check the operation and alignment once more before installing the battery. The actual installation took me all of 15 min without any rushing involved.App and use – Once the install is complete download the Level Home app and sign up, upon completing signup it will locate the lock and walk you through the pairing. The lock is not Wi-Fi and seems to be Bluetooth only so while it may work with Alexa I am not sure it will ever work with Google, while this was a slight disappointment I can live without Google being able to connect to my lock. The app and settings are straight forward, and you can easily share access via the Level app.The Level Bolt works as expected and feels very quality built, I love how the casing is very heavy and solid. The lock works with ease in our door and the app range is as expected with Bluetooth, around 15 ft (this can be extended at the sacrifice of battery life). All I can say is THANK YOU Level for allowing me to have a modern locking option while retaining my current locks!
Was given the lock upon new home purchase. Started fine and got it connected to the Wi-Fi, Alexa, and Ring. Had enabled the lock behind me feature after 5 minutes. Battery constantly died. Changed it out 3 times in the matter of 14 months. Consistently made it inconvenient for when hands were full and needed to open the door by disconnecting from the Wi-Fi. Was locked out of the home multiple times because, hey we have a smart lock no need to bring keys. I've broken in to my own home twice now. Finally just started using it as a dumb deadbolt. Main mechanism broke and would not allow for the key to open nor the paddle switch. Last night a finally removed it by taking the pins off my front door and hammering it out. Conceptually, this is a desirable and well-designed device. It is a compact device that is inserted in the hole in your door between the front and back of a deadbolt lock - the deadbolt is replaced and is designed to act with your existing keying mechanism and to also act with that new bluetooth device it is paired with.Mounting hardware is included and is designed to fit immediately in newer doorways. My house is older and the existing indentations for deadbolt and strike plate guards are smaller and would require modifications.Summary: older locks might not be ready for a simple upgrade. Also: all of the installation information showed the lock being installed on the left side of a door (from the inside) - and it was not at all obvious that the lock ... MoreConceptually, this is a desirable and well-designed device. There was no way I was willing to dismantle everything in my doorway to install a new lock without measurements and without knowing if the new lock would actually work. And, to start out with, it just didn't work. Assembly is no problem (surely in the door, but, simply enough for me, off the door as well). The application was easy enough to install and I was able to pair with my lock immediately (bluetooth). But nothing worked right with the locking and unlocking. But I was doing this in front of me on a table with my smart phone and the lock in front of me and nearly touching.Customer support started out unable to help me because, after my description of all my observations, they told me they had to transfer me to someone specific to Best Buy to answer my questions. Possibly the dumbest thing I have ever heard from any customer support. And that initial response I got from customer support had to be via email which was a canned answer that didn't address any of the specific issues I discussed during my initial call.So I called back. And I went through a TON of tests with the lock which failed each time. Every time I clarified the specific nature of the problem, I got put on hold while the helpdesk escalated the problem and nobody had ever reported my problem before.Based on a random comment from the (very patient) person helping me, and after over an hour on the phone during multiple calls, I realized that I was testing the lock resting on the table in front of me (it was not oriented up/down). Standing the lock upright (but also re-calibrating it (?) this way) seems to have resolved all my problems so far. So I guess that people who have locks on doors to attics and basements can't use a lock like this? How could something like this ever be left unclear in the installation and operating instructions and requirements?So....I did the dumbest possible test for a lock like this (I tested it uninstalled to make sure it worked seamlessly before installing it!) and it failed immediately and the company (and literature) didn't react like this had ever come up before. This is a solidly designed device and I think it would be very desirable for a modern home. But if my first simple test out of the box fails repeatedly and nobody in technical support can be assertive with a response, then there is no way I would ever recommend this product or company to anybody.Zero stars. This company needs to sort out horrifically bad failures before going to market.
Installation and setup was simple and straightforward when following the step-by-step instructions in the Level app. Make sure to check Level’s website to ensure that Bolt will work with your existing deadbolt. As suggested after the last step, I also calibrated the lock using the app, which took less than a minute.Lock and unlock action are smooth, the deadbolt was able to fully extend and retract without issue, and the response time was better than expected for a Bluetooth based lock. The app was also quick to update status and history within seconds of each event.Through the Level app, I was also able to add the Bolt to Apple HomeKit, which allows me to control and manage the lock remotely from anywhere. This is a great feature to have for any smart home, and supports a multitude of integrations that can be done with other devices through HomeKit and third part apps. The Bolt is also compatible with Ring, as long as you have a Ring Video Doorbell Pro or Pro 2 with Amazon Sidewalk.Overall, the Level Bolt is well designed, hidden from sight, and a pleasure to use. I recommended it to anyone that’s in the market to make their deadbolt smart without advertising to anyone that they have a smart lock.
The design of the Level Bolt smart lock is a great idea for those that don’t want others to know one is using a smart lock. The challenge is whether the Level Bolt is going to work with one’s existing door lock. We ran into trouble because the double keyed Schlage locks we have on a couple of our doors just did not work with this lock. The internal parts of our double keyed locks did not allow for the Level Bolt tailpiece adapter that one must insert in the motor’s center hole. We did end up using the Level Bolt on a different outside door than our front, entry door since our other door utilized a Schlage single cylinder deadbolt. The printed instructions that come with the Level Bolt are quite good and illustrations clearly show what is to be done at each step. The installation of this lock should be doable for most homeowners, but it is important that the door has proper alignment for the lock to engage. Level does partner with HelloTech to provide professional installation starting at $79.Once the Level Bolt was installed it was easy to download the Level Home app. I created an account and was also able to add additional people and invite them to install the app to allow access to the Level Bolt as a guest or admin. Another option is to utilize Passes to grant temporary access to the lock. During setup the app will also prompt one to link with Apple HomeKit which will allow users to use voice commands to lock/unlock via Siri. This functionality worked fine for me once I went into Apple HomeKit to change the lock name to match what I had entered into the Level Home app.Within the app, lock settings can be modified to turn on/off the Auto-Lock feature and the Auto-Unlock feature. Location services must be turned on always to utilize the Auto-Unlock feature since this utilizes geo-fencing to assess your home boundary. The Level Bolt can give the user notifications if the locking function jams or malfunctions, but there is no feature to indicate that the door is open or ajar.In summation, I think the Level Bolt lock performs well in terms of the auto-lock/unlock features; in addition to offering Siri voice controls via the Apple HomeKit and is also Alexa compatible. Documentation states that Level locks meet the highest industry standards for residential security, but I lean towards preferring a smart lock that utilizes the original lock hardware bolt versus the Level bolt that contains the CR2 battery. Obviously, one must be willing to live with the tradeoff of not having the invisible smart lock design, but I’d tend to give our August smart lock preference for their app design and additional functionality. If one prefers the invisible smart lock design of Level Bolt to maintain the look of one’s original lock then I believe you’ll find the essential smart lock functions covered in the Level Home app.
This product replace the internal part of the original dead bolt mechanism to transform your door lock into smart device without changing the looks of your door lock. Installation took about 15-20 minutes the most if your door lock completely compatible, in my case the strike plate that came with the package was too long. I don’t want to re-drill the existing door frame so I decided to order the smaller 2 1/4” strike plate from their website. It is a bit wider than my current setup so I need to carve a bit to make a room but manageable. Another issue I found was the current double keyed cylinder deadbolt on my door isn’t compatible with the tail piece adaptor that they provided nor they have adaptor available for purchase. Another issue I found was the current double keyed cylinder deadbolt on my door isn’t compatible with the tail piece adaptor that they provided nor they have adaptor available for purchase. I have no other option other than replacing my deadbolt with single keyed model. The bolt use CR2 lithium battery which can last long and can be replaced easily. Once battery installed, it will sound a chime to indicate that the device is active and ready to pair. When the deadbolt enggaged in lock position, you can’t take it off from the body unless unlock via the app. It comes with 3 different tail pieces so you want to match the part that match your door lock. To pair with the app, you need to download level home app and registered the account. Pairing done thru bluetooth and automatically recognized the device. To open and lock simply bring the phone closer and tap and hold the button. You can setup and auto lock function to lock the door after few seconds. Temporary guess pass can be setup as well to allow guess to come in. This device works with homekit, ring and alexa. Incase you forgot your password, level provide a recovery key that needs to be entered to reset your credential. Overall is an excellent upgrade to my door lock. Just expect some troubleshooting effort especially if you have an older deadbolt or double keyed model.
