A great option for PC use

Having tried a few different premium PC monitors I was left rather disappointed. One was clearly a panel lottery I didn't want to mess around with repeatedly returning. Another broke the moment you trued to update a firmware. The only other options were getting to high priced for me to consider trying. So I kept an eye out for new models coming along and either due to price or specs they weren't looking too great. I was tempted by the LG C1 series but the lack of the 120Hz on the 42" made it a skip. A year later and there now seems to be a bit more recognition for the PC and Console communities with regards TV specs and we have two main contenders in the ~40" size range. A year later and there now seems to be a bit more recognition for the PC and Console communities with regards TV specs and we have two main contenders in the ~40" size range. Having read and watched every review and and user discussion I settle on the LG 42C2 and was amazed at how easy it was to configure for use with a PC with a 3080Ti. Actually a whole lot less hassle than some of the dedicated PC monitors I've tried. Updated my system Win11 to have the better HDR functionality and all I can say is this screen looks amazing. I've run through a number of games, including some using the new Auto HDR feature, various movies and TV shows and am amazed at the sheer amount of depth and detail in darker scenes. While LED lit panels can get brighter I see no need for this as the peaks this screen can hit are more than enough to dazzle and the perceived contrast gives it more than enough range as scenes play out. As a fan of sci0fi movies and games the inky blacks make OLED an absolute dream. Fire up something like Elite Dangerous (with Auto HDR on Win11) and everything just looks stunning. With a few minor tweaks to the default settings and some helpful advice from users of previous OLED models you quickly get a very satisfying setup for all content. The only downsides for me are the lack of DTS support (even bitstreaming back to a receiver); Some issues with decoding certain files via Plex (I have a Shield thankfully), and the built in speakers which I would've liked to use when I didn't' want my 5.1.2 Atmos setup but the sound isn't great. On the positive side the image is fantastic, motion control and auto dimming are more than acceptable with very rare cases where either is noticeable, 4K/120Hz support with great compatibility for PC users without the pricetag that dedicated monitors would have attached. Weighs less than 10KG so very easy to mount on a decent stand or arm. The build quality is to a high level and the panel is as uniform as you could want. Hopefully this will keep going for some time, just need the next round of GPU's to come along to really push some newer games to their potential. Unfortunately I just missed out on the cashback offer LG had running but once the price of these comes down a little it will be a clear winner in the gaming screen market and the dedicated monitor brands will have to take note that pushing their wares for £2,000+ isn't' going to cut it.

Amazing new OLED model

This model was a replacement for my 3.5 year old B8 OLED, it was an amazing TV, but the C2 is a definite improvement in every way. The setup was easy and quick, you can do it with the remote, or alternatively using the LG app on your phone. The new webOS is very speedy, so all controls are very quick, setting up the Freeview TV and all the connections took no time at all. Installing apps like Youtube or Netflix is also very quick. One setting I would suggest to change first for anyone who gets this TV, is to switch off the Energy Saver mode. The picture will be way too dim otherwise. Picture quality: SD & HD: there are a number of picture presets that come with this TV, some work much better than others. I found the setting working the best for me for the SDR streams is the ISF Expert (either Dark or Bright room). There are a lot of picture modifications to play with, but the only thing I changed with this preset was turning down sharpness to 0. The HD streams looked fantastic, and even the SD looked much better than on my old B8, the pixelation wasn’t as noticeable. HDR and Dolby Vision: For HDR and Dolby Vision my favourite preset is the new Filmmaker Mode - it’s meant to make the picture as close to what the director intended it to look like as possible. Again, not much changes in the settings, other than the sharpness to 0 again, and also setting the white balance to Warm 50. I am also using the Real Cinema and the TruMotion (Cinematic Movement) settings. All the HDR and Dolby Vision content looks absolutely brilliant, without the “soap opera” effect. Gaming: one of the best features of this TV is the Game Optimiser setting for your gaming. I use it as a 4K monitor for my PC, and to make sure all the HDR features are utilised you have to switch the HDMI connection to “PC” in the Home Dashboard. Then the Game Optimizer allows you to set the settings like VRR, G-Sync and others. Now I can play games in 4K at 120Hz, and it looks incredible. I haven’t tested the sound fully, as I use a separate soundbar, but from what I heard from the TV it is also a big improvement on the B8. This is an amazing OLED, definitely the best looking TV I’ve ever had.

The 55" C2 OLED TV from LG is quite possibly the best TV of 2022 in that size. First impressions - you immediately notice how light the package is and it is also climate-friendly with recycled materials used. Not only the packaging itself but the TV itself is also surprisingly very light compared to its compatriots from previous years. Despite being lighter, the TV is sturdy and the materials look & feel premium. The TV looks beautiful and is very easy to set up. The user interface and WebOS take some getting used to. The settings are easy to understand as they are differentiated and explained very well. Picture quality is incredible and has a noticeable difference from my previous OLED from LG. Although it is recommended to customise the picture quality using the settings to get the best possible image. HD/4K/HDR content looks incredible and very immersive. I have watched movies, TV shows, sports, animated content and specific content to fully utilise the TVs HDR features - I was pleased to see it perform amazingly in each case! Sound quality is also really good from the TV, although I have connected it now to my soundbar. It syncs without any problems. It is possible to go through the individual connected devices to set them up to be used with the TV remote. I did that for my soundbar and now I can control it using the TV remote itself. I also did that for my set-top box, so convenient! It is the perfect TV for gaming with a dedicated gaming mode which works brilliantly. I have had no issues whatsoever with the TV when playing on my console. I have also used the in-built Stadia app to play games through it and it worked flawlessly. The TV has lots of great features to really make it the centre-piece of in-home entertainment. The remote is well-designed and the hotkeys are incredibly convenient. The TV is really fast thanks to the latest processor and switching between apps is seamless. I will wholeheartedly recommend this TV. It is fantastic with lots of latest tech and features. I will say - please take some time to explore all of the TVs amazing features, it will enhance the experience and ensure you are using it to its fullest capability.

Best TV Ever Owned!
25 November 2022

I have wanted an LG OLED television since they came out but was unable to locate one in the past due to supply chain issues; was unable to justify the expense; and had no practical reason to purchase one since our existing televisions were just fine. Finally my fiance's television in his bedroom perished, so we jumped at the opportunity to transfer our old living room TV to his room and buy a new TV! We went to Best Buy and saw the 48", 55", and 65" LG OLED TV's on display. When we saw we could open up a Best Buy credit account and purchase the TV for 0% interest for two years I decided I wanted a 55". I then did box measurements and realized only a 48" TV would fit in my car. When we saw we could open up a Best Buy credit account and purchase the TV for 0% interest for two years I decided I wanted a 55". I then did box measurements and realized only a 48" TV would fit in my car. Best Buy offered to deliver us a 55", but we live in a very high-crime neighborhood and didn't want to risk the TV "walking away" after being delivered while we were away at work. We gingerly brought the 48" TV home and carried it to our living room. We followed the recommended unpacking instructions and found assembly of the TV stand to be rather easy. We then positioned the TV on our TV table and plugged it in. I enjoyed the ease of following the on-screen instructions to initialize/set-up the TV. I also REALLY appreciated that one of the steps was the optional product registration because otherwise I often forget to register new products. The new smart remote took a bit for us to get adjusted to. The remote has a built-in mouse scroll wheel and also has Alexa smart voice-assist. The mouse wheel lets you point and click to options on the screen, which makes entering text easier. The voice-assist lets you ask for things like "Please search for Home Alone" or "horror movies", and you can then see your options to watch those search results. It is very convenient that the TV "smartly" tracks how often you utilize different apps or streaming services and will offer to periodically rearrange the appearance of the apps to display more frequently-utilized apps first. I have my XBox One connected to the TV, and the gaming experience has been great! Once Microsoft gets its act together and can get more Series X units to the marketplace I hope to buy one and enhance my gaming experience even further by enjoying the graphics power that this TV provides! I would gladly buy this TV again! I did NOT receive this product at a discounted price in exchange for a review but selected that option because I wanted to be included in a sweepstakes entry.

Excellent for 4K PC single player gaming !

Owned the 48" version, liked it alot. Got this 42" version and like it even more. This size is great for PC gamers who don't have perfect vision or whom don't want a bright screen really close to thier face. The complete abscence of backlight bleed thru makes it easier on your eyes, while the excellent contrast and colors still create a very vivid image. I sit 3.5 feet away and can still see the whole screen w/o turning my head or being blasted with too much light, especially in a dimly lit room. I do have an older 4K HDR monitor and its' colors are less impactful but the HDR highlights featuring bright light (such as fire and explosions etc.) are frankly more impressive, as is the "pixel density". Thats said, I find this 42" Oled screen to be an improvement in those matters vs the 48". Pricing this Lg Oled with its' added smart features and audio capabilities vs a high end 32" HDR monitor I find this to be a better overall experience and value IF you take into account; out of the box visual fidelity, streaming and smart TV features, movie capabilities and color presentation. If you strictly want the clearest image in bright or dark lit conditions with the brightest HDR and don't care about the added top notch features of a high end TV, or don't have a desk set up of apx. 4 feet deep than a a high end PC monitor of similar or greater (sometimes much greater) cost is a better choice. As an aside, this LG makes signing into YouTube and Streaming services much simpler & quicker than PC apps or Consoles. Also the speaker sound is good enough in a pinch/casual usage. Going deeper into sound and ease of use/compatability: Running my music and movie audio thru an Audio Video Reciever is easier because I don't have to have my PC on (in most cases) due to the eARC feature in the TV and a modern AVR. Also as a huge bonus, full Atmos and other surround sound formats (when using HDMI) are available in 7.x.x channels via the TV abilities and an AVR with those capabilities. If you don't have the room for an HDR monitor and a TV as well as the additional cables and costs, then this TV alone is a great solution for 120Hz and lower 4K gaming. A final caveat is that this and all OLED TV's do have some annoying Auto Brightness limiting and dimming features which come into being during web browsing, movie watching and occasionally gaming sessions. Gaming is by far the least affected.

Extremely Impressed

I received my 83" C2 3 weeks ago, 48 hours after placing the order on the LG.com/au website (Great service, I was kept up to date throughout the ordering and delivery process). I chose the rather large 83" version of the C2 as this will be the main focus in my media/gaming room which at the moment is still being renovated, so for now, the tv has been set up in my spare bedroom. Up until now I have been using a 4k projector to watch my movies and sports and play my console games, but I wanted a large tv that would give me the best possible image clarity and contrast, with the benefits of HDMI 2.1 for the gaming side of things, and for it to just work seamlessly with my existing peripherals. I have not been disappointed, out of the box I was seriously impressed with what I saw in terms of the displayed content, whether that was from the in built apps, the attached Foxtel satellite or streaming from a local Plex server. Whilst my setup is in a darker light controlled room, I did spend a little bit of time adjusting the various picture settings to get the best possible image quality (just search on YouTube for LG C2 picture settings and follow the expert advice), and this has definitely been worth the small investment of time that it took. From watching 4k sports through Foxtel, to playing Dolby Vision enabled games on the Xbox Series X, I still find myself marveling at the incredible quality that this tv is capable of producing. I can't wait until it's all properly set up once the renovations are complete! I've even been impressed by the sound from the in-built speakers, something I hadn't expected for such a slim device, the AI sound pro mode does a great job of producing a surround sound effect without using additional connected speakers. I'm not a fan of the remote control though, it's not the premium accessory that this tv deserves, and whilst there's some customization possible on the home screen, I'd like to be able to make some more changes and remove some of the sections that are not relevant to me and the way I use the tv. The interface is very clean and responsive though which makes it easy to use. But it's the superior image with the deepest black levels, brilliant bright areas and extreme contrast that make this the ultimate TV for anything you can currently throw at it. This is very much the premium experience I was hoping for when I chose this model.

Fantastic small OLED for a computer monitor.
12 January 2023

I started this whole OLED screen for a computer monitor back when the LG CX released, and used it exclusively as a computer monitor for gaming and movies, I did not use it for static work like photo and video editing, until now when I got this 42" OLED. Now my main monitor is the 48" CX (with all the usual precautions, dark backgrounds that change every few minutes, no taskbar, no desktop icons etc) and the 42" is now my small OLED gaming and movie only monitor. The image and motion processing has indeed improved with 2 years difference between the two, but I have some simple things I would like LG to change to really make the future C3, G3 and what was it, the M3? truly market leading screens for the money. I heard about there being a special separate box running all the smart functions and making the new C3, M3, G3 (and I guess A3 and B3 for budget 60hz options) smart tv optional, this is a move in the correct direction, and I hope LG will keep it simple and make it so this box is a simple USB Type-C powered and HDMI 2.1 48gbps connected streaming device running the smart WebOS platform, with 4 passthrough hdmi 2.1 ports and 3 usb 3.0 ports for connecting streaming devices to power and display to show up on the these new televisions. Please simplify connecting things to the display like this. Furthermore, I know you won't like me saying this but I and many of your customers want the WebOS to be only in this smart connected device and not part of the hardware of the OLED screen anymore. I think to make this work, you would need 5 HDMI 2.1 ports (one taken out of the box for the connected LG smart device) and besides the 100w power delivery USB Type-C, please, please give us at least two other usb ports that are usb 3.0 and 5gbps. Then please, besides a Wi-Fi 6E network chip, upgrade from the slow 10/100 port to a 10/100/1000 1gbps ethernet port. Streaming services like Geforce Now that you work with NVIDIA with, absolutely require gigabit internet to work at best quality. What I and many others, what we want is for the television to have all the usual menu functions like motion control, game optimizer, picture settings etc but no more smart functions like streaming services built in. To emphasize again, All the smart functions should be in the LG device connected to the new OLED televisions through its hdmi and type-c connections. What I am asking for is for you to make the new OLED televisions both smart tv capable and also easily able to be a simple computer monitor as well. While that 48 inch oled monitor you made is great, many of us actually want a glossy television to also be a PC monitor and that is a selling point many of us chose your OLED tvs for, for the amazing 4K 120hz OLED picture on a glossy panel. I know that its because people want the matte anti glare finish because that is what computer monitors have for many reasons. But for all my praise, I do have some constructive criticisms. I think the new image processor within the new OLED panels, needs to be much stronger to handle motion better. Whenever I used the motion interpolation function to interpolate up to 120fps or the 120z of the OLED panel, it appeared as though it was unable to maintain the interpolated 120fps frame rate and would frequently drop down to what looked like 30fps or less, causing a lot of stuttering and lag. This is obviously due to the image processor being severely underpowered because when I turned off all LG motion interpolation and used one built into my video editing software to compare, my computer's CPU and GPU working together, interpolated the same 24fps movies up to 120fps with no issues at all. Also, about the black frame insertion being limited to 60hz, please bring back native 120hz black frame insertion. I say all of these things because I have knowledge of what your competitors are doing as I work in the industry, you asked me not to mention them so I will not. Do these things that I have asked here, and watch the sales improve far more than the LG CX to the C2 now. I do have one other hardware thing I know that you should consider also regarding your competitors, one already showed off a 32 inch OLED display (as in 32.50" viewable or about half of one of your 65" OLED panels) it would make sense for you at LG to use the leftover 65" OLED panels to make a 32.25" LG C3 a reality, especially with the move to make these displays both televisions and monitors, so they do not become e-waste, making all the smart tv streaming in the LG smart hdmi device is the right thing to do so people can keep using their older OLED panels and upgrade to your new ones as time and money permits people to do so. Please be eco-friendly by doing this. As for how to make these displays work with my ideas? Easy, you know your LG display software called LG OnScreen? How about making it so if I am not using the type-c for the LG streaming box, if I connect a usb-c cable from my computer to the C3 for example, then I should be able to control the screen's OSD and all picture settings through the LG OnScreen software. I know it is your choice to listen or not and let your competitors get to be the first ones to do what I am asking for their OLED television with optional smart device functions . Again, you know who they are and I will not mention them. You know you can do this to make things simpler and so people can have the tv be a monitor like myself and others, and the general public can still have their built in smart functions, please try to do what I asked, I already know your competitors are planning to do all I said here and more, to sell more screens for television and monitors since they know being flexible and catering their OLED televisions for the combined market for both televisions and computer monitors is far more sensible than forcing people to put up with advertisements and smart functions just to have a glossy OLED display. As far as everything else goes, this display shows me the true quality of all the video games I get time to play and also the movies and even youtube videos, all of it looks fantastic on OLED. I will say this especially, going back and playing through old favorite games especially with OLED quality just has to be seen, I know it might seem like exaggerating the benefits of OLED, but I am really seeing details I never saw before on my older LCD panels, mostly because most of them were terrible anti glare matte displays where even at 4K resolution they didn't look all that great, this display is like looking into a window of the game world, it really makes you slow down and appreciate details, especially in a big open world video game. Thank you at LG for these quality OLED panels, I am looking forward to see great things with the new OLED tech you bring with the new panels.

Great Picture Quality but WebOS needs work
11 August 2022

I was excited to try the LG C2 55" as this is my first OLED panel TV. I was coming from a 55" 4k HDR LCD with excellent picture quality, so I was very interested to see how much of an improvement the LG C2 brought to the table, and I am impressed! First off the bat is the picture vibrancy and colour depth - colours are bold, clear and vibrant, but without the overly artificial feeling you see on many other panels. A great start! I am an avid gamer, and so this TV would be put through its paces for both input lag, VRR and it's 120hz performance. I was very pleased with the low latency when running on both 60hz and 120hz. I was also impressed with the HDR not having a significant impact on this also. I was also impressed with the HDR not having a significant impact on this also. The LG C2 Gaming mode settings pop-up overlay was also a nice touch, providing you with some useful key stats such as the FPS / hz mode you are running at as well as indicating whether or not VRR is active. Big win for gaming on this TV - perhaps the best performance I have seen for such a big panel and outside of high end PC monitors. For watching TV shows and film, this TV also shines in both picture quality and with its Dolby Atmos support. Being an OLED panel, with the right calibration, the blacks are deep without crushing the picture badly, so you can see all the details within the shadows even on the darkest scenes. Onto the negatives, and really, it's only one thing, but it is a big one - it's WebOS operating system. Though I found navigating menus and home screen fast and snappy, the lack of app support is disappointing. Something as basic as streaming media from your own home media server, for example, is a chore since there are no native apps on the TV for it. You will need to find and download a third party app for this, and you will need to install a media server for it to work. There are not many apps for this so this was a huge disappointment and loses this product a star, which is a shame. Also, way too many Adverts and irrelevant content on the Home screen! The unit is very light and thin. It looks premium with its thin bezels, the screen glare is combatted well with its bright panel and the Wii-remote like magic want interface using the remote is actually very effective. I will say that I am not a fan of the remote overall as it feels overly bulky and a little less premium though - but it works well. Overall, would recommend, especially for gamers out there. Would be 5 star if not for the lack of WebOS app support and media server.

OLED Experience (LG C2)
8 August 2022

After receiving my LG C2 I have promptly started to put the TV together. The process is quite simple yet it proved to me to be a little nerve racking at a point when the instructions tell you to slot the two parts of the stand together. What the instructions don't tell you is that during the slotting you need to push HARD to join them correctly, I was afraid to break it, but it finally went in. I'm not sure if it was just my particular TV stand or if they all are this way, but keep that in mind when you order yours. After that was done and dusted the TV was ready on the unit. The set up is easy as can be, pick your wifi, pick your apps, log in to said apps either by the onscreen keyboard typing or by scanning the code on your phone and boom you're ready to rock, ... MoreAfter receiving my LG C2 I have promptly started to put the TV together. The set up is easy as can be, pick your wifi, pick your apps, log in to said apps either by the onscreen keyboard typing or by scanning the code on your phone and boom you're ready to rock, When it comes to the build quality and overall look of the TV: It's beautiful, as funny as it may sound to say that about tech it is undeniable that it is a very carefully and seemingly lovingly crafter device. No bends, no creaks, solid. In terms of Operating System, it's fluid, easy to navigate and understand, both in apps and in Settings. Sound wise, best TV sound I had pleasure of listening to, fine mid range, good base, overall nice and punchy -- but as impressive as it is -- even a low tier soundbar or other such system will blow it out of the water. And that's what I did, I connected a low tier LG soundbar to it, which connects with TV without any issues, seamlessly, almost as if its one device. Once you set it up for the first time you can toss the soundbar remote out, TV remote will do everything you need due to "LG connect.". Picture: This one comes with a warning(but in a good way), but more on that further down. IN SHORT, picture? It's unbelievable -- beautiful saturated colours CHECK, inky blacks CHECK, smooth non jittery motion CHECK. You will not believe how good this new LG Oled panel is until you experience it for yourself. Now onto that warning I mentioned earlier: Short of going to High End IMAX, this TV will - and I promise you that - ruin cinema projectors from your towns cinema for you. It is genuinely better, you will lose the WOW feeling of going to the pictures real fast once you go there, sit down, start watching the movie and think to yourself "This would look better over in my living room on my TV.". And it definitely will, it really is that good. I recommend this TV to anyone who is looking for one, thank you for reading.

The best just got better

I’ve had a number of LG OLED’s over the years my first being the E7. What I can say without doubt is that each year they continually improve and add features. The C2 being the latest iteration. First impressions the box…not very exciting but it’s clear to see that LG are paying close attention to their green credentials. Previous models came in a heavily branded and glossy box this year its a more understated and plain brown box, much better for recycling I’m sure. Once inside I was happy to see the remote has been updated as it has remained the same for the past few years, still very good feel in the hand and the great gesture control I have gotten used to. The supplied stand is sturdy and was easy to put together the tv will eventually be going on the wall I just haven’t decided what wall bracket to go for yet. One area where I would like to see improvement for 2023 models is better cable management, the C2 does have some basic cable management but I wouldn’t consider it very robust. On powering up for the first time I was pleased to see LG have improved upon the initial setup, from previous experience this could be a little tedious but it’s clear to see this is something they have worked on and the tv is much better for it. I don’t use a TV Ariel and get everything via my sky box which is connected to 1 of the 4 high speed HDMI ports, it was detected first time and the input labelled correctly. 2 of the 3 remaining inputs are taken by a PS5 and an XBOX Series X. One of my main reasons for purchasing the TV was its gaming features and the fact that all 4 HDMI ports are full bandwidth, some competing TV’s only have 1 or 2 full bandwidth ports. My other big use case for the TV is the inbuilt apps of which there are plenty to choose from! I watch a lot of YouTube, Netflix and Amazon prime and all of the apps perform well and open quickly. The TV’s interface has changed to a full screen layout which I must admit I preferred the older style which only took up the bottom half of the screen, however the main thing is that it performs well and is quick to respond and intuitive to use and didn’t take long to get used to. The picture quality is great regardless using an external source or the inbuilt apps however this is something I have come to expect over the years from OLED displays. Overall I’m extremely happy with my purchase and wouldn’t hesitate to recommend this model to others seeking a premium full featured TV for either content consumption or gaming.
