I'm pretty happy with this microwave. It does everything as advertised, it's cheap, it plays groovy little jingles instead of the usual beeps, and it's efficient, powerful and capable of various cooking styles. My only negative is that the menus and sub-menus on the screen are not named, they're only numbered. I don't know about anyone else, but I don't have the time or patience to remember which number corresponds to which meat/food type. This means I have to refer to the manual every single time, which is a little frustrating. For future units, I suggest they invest in named menus for the screen, it's worth an extra $50 at least!

There is not much excitement about getting a new microwave any more. It heats water molecules in food and cooks from the outside in. That's it. I use my convection oven much more to actually cook in. My microwave is mainly used for heating milk for my coffees, heat up a hot dog, the occasional omelet and steam vegetables. They really haven't changed that much in the last fifteen years. I bought this because it was a run-out model and considerably cheaper than it had been. The same size new LG model offers nothing more other than a higher price tag.The LG 42L has plenty of power and does what a microwave does. The all-black looks good. The annoying feature of this model is that if you want to cook say 15 minutes you have to hold your finger on the button until it makes it's way to fifteen minutes - like you are resetting a digital clock. At least it gets there quickly however I would have preferred to be able to just input the exact time I wanted because you always overshoot the setting you want and have to faff about pressing another button to reduce the wrong time you reached. Had I realised I would have to do that then that might have made me think twice about my purchase however as I generally reheat/cook for much shorter periods of time I just use the 30 second add-on button to reach the lesser time periods I want which is easier

Its a great size for family of 4 and heats up pretty quickly i.e. frozen or room temperature. While the functions are good and covering a wide range of foods, the menu buttons are not intuitive or very limited. Dont throw away the manual as plenty of the heating and cooking instructions are in there showing you how to operate, press twice or thrice etc as there is no LCD screen. Buy the next series if you can, worth the additional dollars.

Great microwave. Performing well but not perfect for all
4 April 2021

The evenness of its heating is great and it works well for the uses we have put it it to so far. However customers need to be warned about the amount of space required around it. Though the salesperson was friendly and informative on many things we were not clearly warned of the amount of space needed on all sides The failing may have been a lack of awareness for this specific model and for that the manufacturer and supplier need also to take some responsibility. As a result we have had to adjust our plans to suit it. The other thing of note is that its operation does interfere with the smart television. Notably ithe streaming service loses signal when the microwave is activated . It is not all services or settings that cause interference. It could be worse depending on use and the amount of time the microwave is operating for.

It is exactly as described on the box
20 December 2022

It meets all my expectations. Albeit 1 month old. Easy to use which is a key reason behind my choice. It is a nice looking unit without the complex look of too many buttons. It is robust unit and does not move when the door is opened or closed heavily. This is a unique differentiator to some other products I looked at.The only minor negative point is that the rotating plate seems to come off its tracks too easily. If one is not paying attention the food mays not not rotate properly.

Looks great until it doesn't work
5 July 2022

I have had this unit for roughly a year and had multiple issues which have required me to pull it out unplug it and hold power for 10 seconds. (Reccomended by LG live chat) Now this process would already have it as a 2 star product. But as of this week it has completely stopped working. LG want us to drive the unit to a service centre to get it fixed. This is time and money to get it fixed. We bought a high end model expecting higher quality on more reliability, this has not been the case.

Really Happy
9 November 2022

We've had this for about 1Y without issues. Initially I thought the lack of buttons strange, but realised that most of our usage is to defrost, heat & reheat, which are all set by the 30s increments (or hold the "button" down for too fast). So quick & easy to use. The door (no button) is a god-send, so easy to open. We have another with a vicious door button that wants to bite me & takes a determined effort to release the door. I'm thinking of getting another...

Was looking for a microwave to fit in my new apartment i have always loved LG microwaves and had one previously. This a beautiful looking unit, with a the power to cook for an army, the touch pad buttons are responsive and the clock is an easy set. I love that the microwave has a softer sounding chime and not that annoying traditional beeping and that the touch panel has been simplified to just 8 buttons because lets face it 99% of the time users will only use the start/30 sec button My only gripes with this model are they have removed the curved back and gone back to traditional square interiors, there may be a reason for it but it made cleaning easier (or so my housemaid says) and there is no eco mode where you can turn the clock off at the touch of a button, you ... MoreWas looking for a microwave to fit in my new apartment i have always loved LG microwaves and had one previously. Both features were on my last LG microwave which i do miss a little. However these are small issues I'm happy to live with, overall it is well worth putting on your shopping list.

Suddenly started sparking after 1 year use
5 June 2022

I bought it about a year ago. I selected it for even defrosting function ( as marketed). I was not happy with defrosting, as it's the same as any other cheap microwave on the market. Still didn't return (huge mistake). Now after 1 year, it suddenly started sparking (right side). Good guys didn't belive me. The salesman mentioned you shouldn't put metal in it. I had to tell him no one is as stupid as you think to keep metal in a microwave. I had to take video to prove the case. So two Sundays I had to go consecutively to proove my point. Under LG warranty only repairs are covered. So now 4 weeks without microwave. Why pay 200 plus dollars when cheaper microwaves last longer and defrosting functions are also identical? The microwave we needed.
6 April 2021

It was difficult to get one of these microwaves. We were replacing an old LG that had done very good service. All the ones in the shops had the door that goes all the way across the front. and covers the control panel. We have the microwave in the corner at the left end of the kitchen bench, and it cannot face the front, it sits side-on and faces along the bench. As they all have the control panel on the right, we needed to be able to see it without having to reach across a very long open door.. The door on the previous one stopped short of the control panel, and we wanted the same again. On-line at the Good Guys site we found this one, and it even has the control panel slightly angled to make it easy to use. Put in an order with the Good Guys and waited.
