We have always relied on John Lewis for our considered purchase and this one was no different. So we order the LG S80QR. It arrived promptly and we set it up. Setup was a doddle and with 650 watts is no shrinking violet. There are many settings but if you're not a technical wiz it will do it for you with amazing results. Everything is explained in simple to follow steps. I personally like the LG wow cast box which allows you to connect the two back speakers via their cables and connects over the Wi-Fi from the sound bar saving you having to run cables from front to back genius. The sub woofer is also wireless. The upward firing three front speaker's throw the Dolby Atmos into the air to truly immerse you. The back speakers are small but powerful. It has lots of Audio formats here are a few- Dolby Digital and Digital Plus, Dolby True HD, Dolby Atmos, Dolby Vision, Dolby Digital Surround, DTS-HD HRA, DTS-HD MA DTS X IMAX DTS IMAX PCM. As you can see truly amazing I definitely recommend this unit you can even use it as a sound system. You won't be disappointed trust me I'm not and the price was sensational.

A fairly substantial soundbar that is certainly powerful enough for a small room, and seems to be sound-filling enough even for my 22ā x 40ā living room. I donāt like a lot of bass, so the standard setting for the subwoofer is fine for me; though itās easy enough to adjust up or down using the included Bluetooth remote. The medium-size subwoofer sits on the floor, behind the television & my AV table; and, so far, it seems that this location is working out fine. During an in-store comparison of this 3.1.3 model to the higher-priced 5.1.2 model, I preferred this one due to its clear and slightly more mellow (to me) sound. And, it cost $400 less, anyway. I bought an LG TV with the LG soundbar as a bundle; so, I no longer have to use separate remotes to turn on everything. A welcome feature. However, unless this soundbar is going to be wall-mounted, its height (2-1/2ā thick) is just bulky enough to interfere with the infrared sensor located at the base of my LG OLED screen. When the soundbar is placed in front of the television, it blocks the sensor! I could put it on a lower shelf of the AV table, but the soundbar has upward-firing Atmos speakers; so, placing it on a covered shelf in a cabinet would interfere with its sound ā particularly, during Atmos-enabled movies. Although both the tv and sound bar remotes use Bluetooth āand donāt need line of sight ā the cable box remote I also use is, unfortunately, INFRARED. It will not simultaneously turn on the cable box and the tv (and, subsequently, the soundbar, too!) ā when Iām sitting on the couch ā unless I lift the remote over my head and click! I could probably solve the problem by placing a 1ā-2ā riser under the televisionās pedestal stand, to raise it up just enough to expose the infrared sensor and allow everything to work properly. (Or, perhaps LG could just include an adjustable-height pedestal with every television, so that their own brand of LG soundbars wouldnāt block the infrared sensors of LG TVs, anymore!) Fortunately, I can just use the LG television remote to (eventually) turn on all 3 devices. It takes 5 more seconds and a push of a second button on the LG remote to do it, though ā compared to ONE PUSH using cableās infrared remote control. If I could only aim ā ju-uuust right ā and hit the blocked sensor on the TV, I could save myself 5 seconds!

This LG S80QY soundbar bundle is simply amazing, it needs to be heard to truly experience the sound it can produce from such a small package. Upon receiving the delivery and then opening up the box to see the soundbar you immediately notice how well designed it is with its sophisticated finish and colors that would look good in any setting. The second feature you notice about it is the three upfiring speakers on the top of the soundbar that gives it the ability to produce sound for Dolby Atmos enabled movies. The powerful subwoofer produces a loud bass that would truly make the room vibrate during action scenes in a movie. The remote that comes with the soundbar is small and convenient to use. The included SPQ8-S wireless speakers with the bundle elevate the sound experience to a real cinema experience with true 5.1 surround sound. Setting up the wireless speakers is pretty easy with just connecting the speakers to the receiver and plugging in the receiver to an outlet, with the soundbar automatically detecting and connecting to the speakers. The soundbar comes with many other convenient features such as built in Google Chromecast and Apple Airplay for connecting which ever device you own. All in all this LG soundbar is in my experience one of the best top of the line soundbar that money can buy to achieve a great home theater experience and I would recommend it anyone.

I can only assume reviews about app problems have been addressed in an update, and complaints about aound quality are fake or from people who have set it up wrong or not followed instructions. One youtube reviewer said the audio was hot garbage - this reviewer MUST have done something horribly wrong during setup, as all I had to do was read the replies in the comments, to see almost everybody disagreeing with him. One more not on the reports of app issues: I would much prefer to see a company acknowledge feedback and fix it in updates as LG has, rayher than never knowing whether they would fix a problem because no problems have happened yet. One more not on the reports of app issues: I would much prefer to see a company acknowledge feedback and fix it in updates as LG has, rayher than never knowing whether they would fix a problem because no problems have happened yet. This way, we know that LG are listening. From the moment you unpack this thing, the value is clear. Wall mounts, cables etc all included. You won't see THAT with a certain brand that starts with S and rhymes with chronos. The included remote is a real remote - not a flimsy little credit card shaped remote like I've seen from other brands. This thing sounds incredible, app setup was flawless and fast. Setup takes almost 15 seconds, so make sure you hsve that much time available. I did need to reset it to get bluetooth audio working, but that was fine since it just added 21 seconds to the total setup time (6 seconds for reset, plus 15 seconds setup. The process truly is that fast). This has entirely changed our home theatre. Coming from an older high end Polk system, which had great sound but a near impossible to use app that never got fixed in 7 years, I know what the good and bad can be for a sound system - and this LG is very good. Movies and music have a whole new layer now. And the layers can be adjusted quickly to suit different films and soundtracks. The app loads up quickly, allowing instant adjustment of 7 channels (rears are coupled so you can't individually adjust left and right but I hope this feature is added soon), as well as a separate setting for bass and treble. I voice clarity is good, even with a lot happening on screen. Pros: - Speedy setup - Wireless features - Can be turned on by Blueooth - Great remote Cons: - Needed to reset once for bluetooth to work. This was likely something I did wrong in initial setup, anx it was resolved in just seconds. Because there is minimap steps to the app setup process, there was no time lost by resetting. - The bar is huge. Anybody with limited space should check dimensions. Size might not necessarily be a con anyway, since big audio needs big size. - The AI room calibration seems to calibrate the bar to itself based on echo in the room. This does not account for setups like mine where the viewer/listener sits off centre from the bar (facing directly forward, I sit in linwle woth the end of the bar). For this reason, I would really like LG to implement either phone microphone calibration, or offer a calibrating microphone in the box that can be placed where the viewer sits.
For clarity and fairness I'm writing this as someone coming from a full custom 5.1 setup so my view will be compared against this not simply TV speakers. The setup process is very straight forward with the only fiddly part deciding where to place the rear speaker box as it needs power. The included speaker cables for the rears are colour coded for positive and negative and feel high quality and as such as nice touch. The subwoofer is huge and heavy and inspires confidence in its ability to deliver deep low bass. The main soundbar is an excellent design that is aesthetically pleasing enough to have on display without being covered in speaker grills. The main soundbar is an excellent design that is aesthetically pleasing enough to have on display without being covered in speaker grills. The hidden display that only comes on when powered is a nice touch. The accompanying app allows the soundstage to be auto calibrated for your room setup and allows the soundbar to be easily connected to the wifi for music and alexa streaming. The soundstage when connected via arc to my 6800xt gpu with dolby atmos was impressive. The music scores in the Revenant film and the deep bass of arrow thump hit hard. The rear speakers despite a single driver and small size punched hard and provided excellent surround sound when required without feeling like they struggled. Vocals did appear to be a little low at first but a quick change to the center channel via the app to boost this balanced it nicely. Its an impressive sound for such a sleek package and I was more than happy enough to get rid of my bulky old 5.1 setup for this. The passthrough works perfectly with both PC and PS5 allows VRR but only up to 4k 60. Tested optical input and BT streaming and both worked as expected with no perceptible audio issues. As with everything nothing is perfect. The feet of the soundbar as simple rubber nubs and not adjustable so to clear the TV stand I had to use some isolation speaker mounts see picture. Adjustable feet would be a great addition. As previously mentioned 4k @60hz should ideally be 4k @120hz at this price range same as competitors but not a deal breaker for most users. Rear speaker wall mounts should also be included.
The sound output from this bar is fantastic. Atmos sounds great, as does surround on the PS5. Receiver handles pass through well, which I recommend over LGās buggy āsoundshareā when pairing with an LG OLED. The reason for the bad review: the system uses Bluetooth to wirelessly pump sound to the subwoofer and rear satellites. There is an obvious calibration error with the Bluetooth emitter: it sits on the same frequencies as 5 ghz wifi, killing your home internet. Massive packet loss and speeds slow to a crawl. There is fix you can enact at home: if you have a router that allows you to specify āchannelsā for Your wifi bands, select a 5ghz channel on the low end of the dedicated spectrum. I went with channel 36 and the interference stopped. This means, however, that you can no longer make use of your routerās auto connect features, as you have to stay away from high channels (140s-160s) to avoid massive interference from the soundbar (seriously, your internet will be unusable on those channels) Iāve contacted LG, which claims this is not a known issue. Amazon customer reviews beg to differ: the review section for LG soundbars is littered with complaints about wifi interference. Bluetooth should NOT be hogging dedicated wifi frequencies, so this is a clear design defect. I would go with the Sonos arc as a result. Great sound but you have to reconfigure your wireless network to placate a fussy LG soundbar.
This 5.1.3 surround sound soundbar system is well worth the value if you get it on sale and save $500. The system is relatively easy to unpack and set up. I did uncover a couple of crucial limitations that LG didn't outline in their user manual. If your TV supports 4k at 120hz and you connect your HDMI 2.1 video source to the soundbar, using 4k passthrough to the TV via ARC, you will be limited to 60hz. To resolve this issue, connect your video source directly to one of the 4k HDMI 2.1 ports on your TV and use the e-ARC port back to your soundbar. Incidentally, this will solve the other problem of SimpLink connectivity, and when you turn on your LT TV, it will power on the soundbar, which will default to ARC. This is what you want. Incidentally, this will solve the other problem of SimpLink connectivity, and when you turn on your LT TV, it will power on the soundbar, which will default to ARC. This is what you want. In the previous scenario with the video source connected via HDMI to the soundbar, when powering on the TV/Soundbar, the soundbar always defaults to ARC when you need it to be HDMI. Since you cannot control the video input for the soundbar via the LG "magic" remote, you need to have the soundbar remote sitting around to press that one input button to switch it to HDMI input every time you turn the system on. It's very annoying. Best to go from video source to TV and output audio to the soundbar via the e-ARC cable from your TV to the soundbar. There are two issues LG technical support couldn't help me with, and I figured them out independently. Otherwise, the immersive, high-resolution sound is excellent. The wireless rear receiver works great, sits on the floor behind our couch, is a good 14 feet from the soundbar, and has no issues. The feature set of this soundbar is quite good. It supports all pertinent high-quality audio formats and has many convenience options. An e-ARC cable is also supplied, which is good, although it's kind of short. If you have this soundbar centred under an 86-inch LG TV, you can just run the cable diagonally to connect it to the TV. Not great if you want to run some cable management to keep things super tidy. You will be able to connect it, though, which is the most important thing.
Going to give this 3 or 3.5 stars. I purchased this to replace a Sonos ARC 5.1 setup that I've since moved to another room in my house. I wanted Chromecast as I am an Android user and the Sonos lacks this important feature. This setup is connected to an LG C1 via e-ARC. Pros: Fairly straightforward setup. The app did fail a couple of times in initial connection but I'd read that this is a thing so I just repeated the process and eventually it worked. Since then the app has been simple and easy to use and I haven't had any connection issues with the wireless speakers/sub. The sound is 'big', easily filling the room it's in (a bedroom). Since then the app has been simple and easy to use and I haven't had any connection issues with the wireless speakers/sub. The sound is 'big', easily filling the room it's in (a bedroom). Music is actually pretty great but I find that it excels when playing music loudly. Kind of the same with movies... sounds great when loud. Other pros include that it does have various EQ settings and all the features I wanted (Chromecast!). Cons: Initial setup glitch as noted above. The sound, overall, is a big downgrade when compared to the Sonos. I mean a huge downgrade. At very loud volumes playing music they might be comparable, but while this is impressive when playing movies at high volumes in some scenes it seems to do a terrible job with dialogue (even with the EQ set to prioritize clear voice). At lower volumes this just doesn't impress, at least not compared to the Sonos. Dialogue for TV shows (which I rarely play loudly) is pretty mediocre and music just sounds okay when listening at a low or medium volume. The Sonos always sounded warm and downright magical at any volume and did an infinitely better job producing clear dialogue (never needed close captioning, even at low volumes, with just the 'clearvoice' setting turned on. There's another issue as well but I'm not sure if it's the TV or the soundbar's fault. Safe to blame LG, though, given that this is all LG hardware. For whatever reason the TV settings are reverting to TV speaker as the output at least 2-3x per week. I have to use the TV remote and manually reselect eARC otherwise I have no audio from the TV. Both devices have current firmware as of Dec 14 2022. Hard for me to recommend this. If I didn't have the Sonos in another room I'd probably have a higher opinion of this thing... but I do... so I don't. This would be an upgrade if you have older tech and are gaining Atmos or other features, maybe. If you don't need Chromecast you'd be better off with Sonos ($$) or the Samsung HW-Q990B.
Compared to last couple of generations of soundbars they've done, LG this year has decided to step their game up with their soundbars and actually deliver something totally worthwhile. I come from my last soundbar the Vizio M51ax-J6 and the moment I first played around with the LG S80QY, this soundbar destroys the Vizio in literally every way! The sound quality was just impressive overall and honestly only keeps getting better everytime I turned this bar on, the subwoofer puts out deep, rich bass, the soundstage is powerful, and the Atmos/DTS:X performance is surprisingly decent for what it is. Pairing the S80QY with the optional SPQ8-S speaker kit just elevates the overall experience to another level, delivering strong surround sound performance and pairs instantly with the bar, as of this writing, I havenāt experienced any cutouts whatsoever. Also, the LG S80QY pairs very well with my LG C1 TV too, they function together a lot better than the Vizio M51ax-J6 ever did, everything just works for the most part, such a great relief. Lastly, my experience with the S80QY had a rocky start, but since then itās all been very good. The first unit I had was kinda faulty as for some reason I was given a demo model and not the full product as the soundbar would keep going into demo mode no matter what, so the next day I went up there to Best Buy in person, exchanged for another unit, and since then no more problems, I got the fully operational unit now. In conclusion, the LG S80QY is surprisingly a great soundbar overall, better than the SP8YA from last year and the SN8YG from the year before last, itās safe to say LG has definitely improved themselves this year, I bet the higher models S90QY and S95QR are even better than this. S80QY comes highly recommended, I donāt regret my purchase one bit.
It's easy to be impressed with this sound bar initially, and yes, it sounds great with Film / TV (when eventually set up correctly - expect to be frustrated for a while - it's not exactly plug and play when sorting out the settings between the different external devices - and there's not a lot of help to be found with this anywhere either - so you need a bit of technical know-how - I'm sure LG could improve this experience!) and a lot better than the TV speakers. However, the longer you play with it you realise how limited it is...especially when considering how expensive it is. For starters, the stereo soundfield is terrible. EQ wise it's great, but It may as well be a wide mono coming from the front. There is no sense of a wider sound stage from the front AT ALL. ...Ā MoreIt's easy to be impressed with this sound bar initially, and yes, it sounds great with Film / TV (when eventually set up correctly - expect to be frustrated for a while - it's not exactly plug and play when sorting out the settings between the different external devices - and there's not a lot of help to be found with this anywhere either - so you need a bit of technical know-how - I'm sure LG could improve this experience!) and a lot better than the TV speakers. Yes, the centre channel is nice and bright and projects well for speech, but this comes at the expnse of true left / centre / right signals - ie. the centre infomation is biased to be slightly brighter meaning the left and right signals are dull, flat and lifeless. As far as I can tell, there is NO setting to change this! It's stuck in this mode. Now this works well for TV / film (mostly) but I tried a few 5.1 music mixes and demonstration disks and they just sound wrong when checking individual speakers - and explains why there's no decent stereo experience at all! The top end of the L / R channels seems to be put in the centre (and so I'm guessing this sound bar is squarely aimed at TV only!) No decent stereo image at all. Also, the app has stopped working after a week, which is frustrating, so I need to set it up again. No idea why? And note, there are NO user EQ settings, just all presets - some of which are utterly pointless and will never be used (and there's no preset or way to disable the centre channel brightness bias or EQ to attain true stereo / 5.1. The balance settings can be adjusted for all the speakers apart form the L / R channels too - so it's a real balancing act if you want to make your own adjustments?! Weird? Maybe this omission is something to do with the centre channel being extra bright? I don't know. Maybe I'm missing something, but I'm a little underwhlemed at the moment as there's not enough controls to tweak things to your own liking. However, I got this half price with the TV (and so it was a punt / added extra) and I'd say at half price it was good value and certainly improves the general TV / film experience (I have other better options for music) The rear channels work well too, and the subwoofer is great in a small / medium sized room, but there's no real sense of the immersive up-firing that is the supposed selling point, so at full RRP I wouldn't be so sure this would be the best choice. The lack of any sense of wide stereo is the biggest down side. Sorry LG, but just being honest - but it's just not an 'all rounder'. Maybe they can improve these things with a firmware update? I hope so!
