Easy to use and good replacement for older laptop with DVD/CD-RW that is having a harder time reading discs whether it's new or few scratches, you can always hear it seeking data and takes a long time for it to finally work. Once i installed the new LG 8x External USB 2.0, Windows recognized it and I installed the DVD game disc and it installed flawlessly, no more constant seek time. Bought two more for my other older laptops I use for local gaming.

I bought this brand new in 2021 but for some reason didn't hook it up right away. Finally plugged into my 2019 iMac and nothing...doesn't even show up on the computer. Contacted LG but because it is out of warranty they will do nothing. Seems it is a piece of junk since I've read other review with folks having the same issues. Sad that LG won't do anything given I purchased a whole kitchen suite of LG appliances in the summer of 2021.

I have a new LG laptop, which is great, but no DVD player. Unthinkingly, I bought tax software on CD version and stupidly opened, then realized I had no player. Once opened, no returns. I ordered two plug and play brand players featured on Amazon, and neither worked. I then found the LG player at about the same price. My only complaint is that LG, like most companies nowadays, print instructions on tiny pieces of paper in a small font. For those of us with bad eyesight and who do not respond well to minimal graphics, this is not good. I had to call LG to find out how to open the drive door (you push on it) so I could insert the CD to load. The small paper with minimal instruction must be to cut cost, but that is so thoughtless.

I had an older Asus portable dvd player that still works well with computers but not with TVs. Also it requires 2 USB ports to function. Just purchased our first flat screen TVs and needed a dvd player that could be plugged in via the USB port. This LG player requires only 1 USB port to function and also works with all of our new TVs. Easy to switch it from computer to TV use and works well. Have not experienced any problems with playing audio CDs, dvds and data disks on a computer and dvds on the TV. Burning a disk is just as fast as the last internal drive I had. Have plugged it into 1 laptop and 2 desktop computers and it was recognized right away by each machine and burned data disks that work on other computers. Very light weight so easy to move around.
Bought it mainly to burn Audio files onto CD for my child's dance concerts. Absolutely useless piece of garbage. No matter what I do it will NOT burn any music past 48 seconds. Contacted LG live chat support and all they did was send me the instruction manual claiming it is a plug and play device so they can't help me. Appalling customer service from LG.
I purchased this a month or so ago and am very happy with it. My old laptop has Windows 7 on it, by choice, and it works fine. I did have to get the Geek Squad to check something before I could get it to work. I had an error message at first. We found one of the ports that did work well with it. It is plug and play and I'm glad for that. I've only used it for playing DVD's so far, but it has other capabilities. The price is great.

I bought this because my laptop doesn't have a disc drive and it worked perfectly with my Dell computer to play DVDs, CDs, and burn MP3s. I accidentally dropped it still plugged in which naturally bent the cable plug and it won't power on unless the cable is angled a certain way. Maybe it's just me, but I can't find a replacement cable anywhere. I don't want to buy a whole new DVD player. I would give it 5 stars if not for that.
