LG has earned a reputation as one of the best display providers for gaming. I would probably embarrass myself if I tried to do a technical review, so I will say that I am happy with the performance and LG’s reputation makes me look at their brand first when it is time to upgrade. I do want to list a few pros/cons I experienced with the 32GQ950-B. Pro: - Works great w/ the current gen consoles at 4K/120. No DV support so a few checkmarks are missing, but HDR10 looks almost as good. - Headphone jack is moved to a more accessible location. I generally connect to the console’s controller for audio, so I do not have speakers on my desk. Since there are no built-in speakers, this is a convenient way for me to get sound for other sources. - Rotating display. Although this is not a unique feature, it is the reason I like using a monitor vs a TV. I still play some classic games and some of those games look and play best in “tate” mode so I love the ability to quickly rotate the display to match. - Fast 1ms response time, excellent for fast-paced games. As far as I know the only thing that beats it is OLED. Con: - Hexagon Lighting is not as good as Sphere Lighting 2.0 from LG’s previous generation of monitors. Even as bias lighting, it just barely lights the wall near the edges of the monitor so I need a bit more ambient light in the room for eye comfort, especially if gaming w/ HDR enabled; you can’t even notice the Hexagon Lighting in the pics I took). There is also no way to control Hexagon Lighting! Sure, there are some basic options in the settings menu, but my previous LG monitor w/ Sphere Lighting had a dial to turn the light on/off and adjust the brightness. There was also an app which enabled features that match the color to the content on the screen or time the light to sound. Not perfect since it was limited to Windows and was not compatible w/ other RGB lighting, but it was quite a bit better than Hexagon Lighting. - The monitor defaults to DP v1.4 (DSC), the cable LG included in the box does not support DSC so my computer was stuck at 1080p/60Hz. Dropping it down a version enabled 4K/120. I also tried a DP cable from an older LG monitor, for some reason that one is full featured. The LG-provided DP cable also caused the screen to lose signal every few minutes (blank screen for a few seconds, then flash back to the computer image), so I am sticking with the older cable. Also not sure if it is the source, the cable, or the monitor, but DP v1.4(DSC) causes noticeable color banding. I only mention this because DSC is supposed to be "visually lossless" according to VESA. - It gets hotter than my previous LG monitor (38GN950-B). It doesn’t get as hot as modern consoles or my entry-level gaming PC, and I wish I had a FLIR camera to show the actual temp, but it is noticeable after playing at an arms length away (and the gaming devices as far away as possible). The cons take up more space, but I think they are minor detractors. Even though the OOBE wasn’t perfect and Hexagon Lighting is a downgrade from Sphere Lighting, am glad I upgraded to this versatile HDMI 2.1 monitor (9/10 or 4.5 stars if it were an option).

I bought this monitor when it is just released on LG's official website. Within 1 month of its release date, the product drop 300 USD. I contacted customer service on this, and they cannot offer any help to customers like me who bought their monitor on its released date. For product quality, the monitor sometimes has black screen issues just like other LG monitors, it is not very frequent at this moment. It's 32 edge-lit zones. It works with PS and Xbox. Overall, I think the product quality is OK. The main reason I vote one star is the bad customer experience I had. I get a sense that I was tricked into buying the monitor at its orginal price immediately when it was released. It is very unfair and unfortunate that LG does not offer any plan to their customers.

Please, please remake this with a heatsink or something to silence it. Fans do not belong in monitors, especially at this price, and just introduce a point of mechanical failure. Also use a less grainy coating. Other companies have done it.

Fantastic monitor held back by price
27 October 2022

The picture quality on this monitor is outstanding. Everything is sharp and colours look great. 4K content is superb. The polariser does a decent job of making those blacks look blacker. This would be an easy 5 star monitor with the exception of its price and the fact there is no auto-input switching. It can be quite annoying having to manually switch from HDMI to DisplayPort using the button under the monitor. The dimming zones are also quite noticeable in dark screens and quick transitions or light sources and in my experience I've found it's better to turn them off for a more uniform look. Still, it is an excellent monitor and an easy recommendation for those looking for a 32" 4K IPS monitor with high refresh rate and a flat screen.

I bought this monitor after reading and watching tons of reviews. I bought this monitor to use with my Xbox Series X and Playstation 5. The build quality is excellent, it doesn't feel cheaply built. It is smooth and very responsive so FPS games is where it shines. However a lot of the features are greyed out. I wish i could add more color especially when playing RPG style games but you cant it seems. No matter what setting you put the monitor in Gamer 1 & 2, FPS, RTS, or VIVID all the settings to tweak your picture are greyed out. Overall i like the monitor because of its smoothness and low input lag. My main takeaway from this monitor is that it is Awesome! Colors are vibrant and vivid, screen quality is crisp, functions are easy to use, and overall build quality is superb. If you are looking to game with a high resolution and as many frames as needed then this monitor delivers if you have the beefy GPU to handle it. The monitor always works great with PS5 at high frames. If entertainment is your main concern then this monitor handles that with ease. Watching 4K HDR content on this was surprisingly great as it was able produce colors and blacks well enough that it was not too far off from looking like the colors on my OLED TV, and it also gets pretty bright. Upon receiving the monitor, setting it up was pretty easy and straightforward by just connecting the stand to the monitor and then screwing in the bottom base of the stand. Overall this is a great monitor for gaming as well as entertainment or basically using it as a monitor and I would recommend it to everyone.

Great Gaming Monitor!

Finally! When I received my delivery for my monitor, that's what I shouted. I was anticipating this monitor for a while, not just because its a gaming monitor but the fact that its 4K (my first) and up to 165hz. Upon receiving the monitor I could already tell that this would be a sleek premium gaming monitor. After opening the box and taking out the contents I was surprised at how the big the monitor is at 32'' compared to my previous ultrawide monitor which was 34", but I guess that was obvious since this is bigger diagonally. Setting up the monitor was pretty simple by just attaching the back main arm and then attaching the bottom stand, then I connected to my PC with the provided Displayport Cable. Setting up the monitor was pretty simple by just attaching the back main arm and then attaching the bottom stand, then I connected to my PC with the provided Displayport Cable. The main thing I noticed about this monitor is that its really nice looking and sleek with its design all around. But the main feature that I and many others that buy this monitor are look forward to is the 4K display, and it does not disappoint at all. The colors of the display are gorgeous and vivid, and with a compatible GPU to power it, the screen is buttery smooth with 165 (or 165hz) Frames per second enabled. The monitor does not come with any speakers built in, but not many gaming monitors do in general. The button on the monitor to control the settings menu can be a little confusing to use if its your first time using it but can be learned fairly quickly, and it has about 7 picture profiles for different content. Watching or playing HDR content on this monitor is a joy because of how lifelike and vibrant the colors get. Since this is a gaming monitor first and foremost, that's the area where it shines the most. While playing games I was mostly getting 65 FPS or above with 4K with almost max game settings enabled and there was no screen judders or tearing, due to my high end GPU. Playing games on this monitor is a blast every time because of how immersive it is. Another cool feature of this monitor is the Hexagon Lighting on the back that displays RGB lighting while the monitor is on, its not very bright in a room with a lot of light mine, but with the lights off it shines a nice amount of light on the wall to help with eye strain from just looking at the monitor. I would have liked it if the Hexagon lighting was smart and actually matched whatever content was being displayed on the monitor but personally its not a deal breaker. Overall this monitor is awesome for gaming, and really great for productivity as well as watching content on it.

First off, out of the box, this monitor is very sleek. Very slim design for a gaming monitor and has a wonderful purple light on the backside when the monitor turns on. First thing I did, was power up the PS5 and go to town on some Call of Duty. The graphics were very smooth, the monitor had no problems keeping up and the HDR did very well, especially with the darks. Moving on to Rocket League, there are many boastful colors that this monitor was able to produce with such a clean look with ZERO distortion at all. To end the first night with the monitor, I had played the newly release Madden and the monitor kept everything very smooth and sharp. No Audio
19 October 2022

Bought this on release after watching favourable reviews. Picture quality is great, no complaints. However, the solitary audio option is terrible. To get any sound out of your new monitor you have to tether yourself to it with wired headphones. Thought I would get around this obvious design flaw by purchasing LG's GP9 gaming speaker, but LG's UltraGear Gaming Speaker isn't compatible with their UltraGear Gaming Monitor. That's not only bad, it's embarrassing. Now, after owning this monitor for less than 2 months the 4 pole audio out port has stopped working, leaving me with genuine buyers remorse.
