I love Lifestraw, I love clean water and I love that every purchase helps a child get clean water. I read about this bottle prior to purchase and I followed recommendations in hope I wouldn't have any issues with the mouthpiece leaking. No luck so far😲. I am frustrated to say the least. It's not a leak like from the cap it's in the mouthpiece, it spews out! I was going to the hospital to visit a friend and this thing wouldn't stop, finally I put the top back on it, I was embarrassed and wet. So, I will try and work this out and I will give another review. I knew this might happen, that's why I took extra effort, to no avail, as of now.

I purchased this for a trip to India. It was so wonderful to be able to fill it up anywhere without a concern of getting sick, and to not contribute to disposable plastic water bottle waste. I do think there is room for improvement. I love that there is a handle top that screws onto the base top that holds the filter. The problem is two fold. 1. If you tighten the handle top you have to be careful to not also overly tighten the base top/mouth piece (as they screw in the same direction). There were MANY times that getting the mouth piece off to fill the bottle was a pretty significant struggle. 2. The handle lid attaches with a 1/2 turn. The reason I didn't like this is because it easily works itself loose. My intention was to attach the handle of the bottle through ... MoreI purchased this for a trip to India. (I didn't want to wear a backpack during my daily explorations in sweltering heat). It was a great idea, but because the handle top doesn't attach with a full (or more) rotation turn, it kept working it's way loose. For some, these many not be an issue. However, I do think these are easily improved upon. I hope to see a new iteration in the future.

I purchased two of these for an extended backpack trip in Europe. The thought was these water bottles would allow us to access safe drinkable water everywhere. We could fill them from sinks or other local sources of water. The bottles are durable, stylish and seem to function properly however they have one engineering flaw that impaired our use and prompted me to return them. When you fill the bottle with water after it warms to ambient temperature every time you open the lid water spills out making a mess. This happened consistently with both bottles regardless of how full we filled them. I’m not sure if the metal insulated version would have the same problem but for us, with the plastic ones it was enough of an inconvenience that we didn’t want to continue using ... MoreI purchased two of these for an extended backpack trip in Europe. The instructions mention to burp the bottle before flying as it may overflow in flight. However this became a everyday thing for me. Leaving the bottle in a hot car, or entering a AC building it would overflow. Even in you "burp" or blow back into the straw water can over flow when there is large pressure change. My car's bottle holders often had water in the bottom, then it dipped on my while driving. If the bottle was in my back pack and I did not "burp" it I would find a wet pack later in the day. I do need a filter for micro plastics which is the reason I chose this bottle. Sorry LifeStraw, I love your products but this bottle was just not functional for me.side note: I have worked with your team on a solution a few weeks ago. Impossible to get water through mouthpiece
12 February 2023

I bought 2 water bottles for an upcoming trip abroad, and 1 bottle works perfectly. Used the same cleaning/set-up method for both, and followed directions exactly. I have to work so hard to get water through the mouthpiece on 1 of the bottles it's ridiculous. I'm very disappointed as I have now seen other reviews with the same issue; therefore, this is not an isolated incident. I bought the bottles though Amazon because I had points to use so I don' want to return both bottles. I emailed Life Straw, but had a message that I may not get a response for 5-7 days. (ugh!) I will post this review on Amazon and other websites after I hear back from LifeStraw. I hope they don't just repeat all of the "tips" I already found (none worked). If they are a quality company - they will have a fix or will send me another mouthpiece or filter since they know what the problem is as it has happened to others in the past... Lets see.

Leaking issue makes it a no go
16 March 2024

Hi. I bought 3 of these and they all exhibit the same issue. Tech support tells me it's because of the design. When the temperature changes water comes out of the mouthpiece no matter how high the water is in the bottle. It's leaked on me, at my desk, in my car. The only fix is to loosen the cap to release pressure? Absurd response from tech support. I bought 3 and wish I had only bought one and not given them as gifts at Christmas. This will be my last LifeStraw purchase.

Lost our favorite bottle
7 April 2024

We bought the Life Straws for a trip where we were advised to drink only bottled water. At first, since they are expensive, we reconsidered our purchase wondering if we’d ever use those bottles again with our normal hiking, biking, skiing activities. It took a bit to get used to the draw needed to get water since we are so accustomed to using water bottles without straws. We soon learned the value of the LifeStraw bottles and the reassurance we had drinking water from the airports and hotels. And, we reduced our impact on the environment by using our own bottle instead of multiple plastic bottles daily. We now recommend the LifeStraw bottle to friends even though we accidentally left ours sitting on a hotel check-in counter in Thailand.

Similar to the draw of a milkshake
2 August 2024

Definitely not the quality I expected. A bit like sucking a milkshake through a thin straw. If you are hydrating while the bottle is still mostly full and you set it down, water will continue to pull through the straw and it’ll puddle under your bottle and around the mouthpiece. This is a solid no-go from me. On top of that, you can’t hold much water in this in the first place. So of you’re planning on using it for hiking, be prepared to find water often. I bought two of these and all they are going to do is collect dust.

Under Pressure
4 April 2024

The filter is a nice touch to ensure that you have clean(er) water wherever you go. It’s a bit weighty with or without water which may deter some buyers. My issue is when air pressure builds… whether in a plane or driving through the mountains… this bottle becomes a fountain. Twice on a plane and two other times in the Smoky Mountains, when I unscrewed the top water poured out everywhere and wouldn’t stop. I looked like I just p*ssed myself at 35,000 feet. Twice. The only thing I can think of is if you do actually p*ss yourself on a plane or in the mountains, just this water bottle and you’ll have an instant excuse! Silver linings.

Water Explodes Out of Bottle
5 November 2024

Quite disappointed with Life Straw. I had the older version, which the filters were discontinued, forcing customers to purchase this new bottle. This new bottle has a defect. It explodes water out of the bottle as soon as you open the top. Water shoots into the air and sprays everywhere. This happens when in the same room, if you cover it for an hour, and then open it, it comes shooting out. I wish I tried it as soon as I ordered it but I waited two months and now it's pas the return period. Please do not order this useless product.
