A paste made of marble dust and 100% polymer emulsion with an extra high viscosity. It is used to build heavy textures on rigid supports and create three-dimensional forms. It dries to the hardness of stone and can be sanded or carved when thoroughly dry. It can be handled like clay if the top of the container is removed and some of the water is allowed to slowly evaporate until it reaches a clay-like consistency. Modeling Paste adheres to any non-oily, absorbent surfaces. If the paste dries too quickly it can cause "mud cracking" that is usually cosmetic, not structural. When it is mixed with acrylic colours it will act as a weak tinting white, while increasing thickness and rigidity. It is an excellent substrate for acrylic paint, oil paint, oil pastel, oil bars, watercolour, graphite or dry pastel.

I've been using Golden and Liquitex modeling paste (or molding paste, depending on mfr.) for 2 decades. Both products are about the same in terms of quality, at least for my uses. While Liquitex comes in basically one type, Golden has Hard, Medium and Soft. Golden's product dries with a slight sheen, whereas Liquitex is more of a matte finish, so this might make a difference for some artists. Both take acrylic and oils nicely. It's very useful to put a layer on canvas or board (thinner on canvas or you'll get shrinkage problems) in order to get an impasto look or various textures. It can be carved or sanded later as well with tools or a Dremel. I've mixed this product with paper maché for near-permanent sculptures and sand for rough textures on bas relief pieces. I've used it to fill holes in concrete works, to repair torn canvases, to fill cracks in woodwork and more. There is some shrinkage over time, so heavy use on canvases is not something I'd recommend but you can lay it on thick on any strong substrates like HDF, MDF, wood or PVC. It's pricey stuff for the average artist, so I often look for a sale when I buy it. 100s of uses!

Used this modeling paste for the first time with my raised stenciling artwork and I love that you can go over the stencil pattern for a thick impasto look. Other mediums I used would crack after drying but this product is made for sculpting. Always helps to have the correct product for the task, lol.

Liquitex is an excellent brand, so I was confident buying their modeling paste for a painting I was working on. It’s easy to work with and mixes well with acrylic paint colors. Happy with the results.

I use this for my watercolor painting. Best on a watercolor board or canvas, to avoid cracking. I apply with a pallet knife on a clean dry surface. When dry sand with fine sandpaper to reduce some height and ridges. I do not mix with the paint, but apply the wc paint over the dry paste. It gives a sense of height, texture and depth to my painting. I have not tried other brands.
Love this product! I use this on canvas with acrylic paint to add texture and dimension. It's easy to use, dries quickly and takes my paintings to a whole new level. The gallon size goes a long way and is a much better value than the smaller sizes. Once you use it, you'll get addicted to it.
I use this product to create a thick, layered paint look. I apply it with a palette knife before I begin my painting. The consistency is similar to cake frosting and it’s very easy to work. It dries quickly and take’s paint beautifully.
It is a good product. I bought this for making a textured canvas. Quantity wise it is too less as I expected. That was the first I bought this product. Next time I will buy a large quantity.
I had never used modeling paste before and this was super easy to use and worked great! I couldn't stop playing with it. #sweepstakes Now I need to get more! You can even sand it down a little after it fully dries. That gave me even more options to use it without need of stencils. I tinted mine with some glow in the dark paint and it worked wonderfully!
The product was really good. I bought in hope that it would work for a project that I was doing and it worked fantastic. I didn’t really have high expectations for it but it worked a lot better than I thought it would.
Took about a week and a half to arrive. When Product arrived, it was cracked and busted open inside the box. There was just a little bit of paper on the box for packing. So a good bit of the paste had dried over. Since it took so long to arrive I had to work with it because I had a project to finish. Of the Product I was able to use, it worked well and was easy to mold.
