Actually use this to flush my dogs ears out, per recommendation of his vet of course! the size is awesome! mine came with a cap over the tip! love that feature! keeps it clean and sanitized when not in use! the price, for the durability is right on point! was extremely happy when I found this, had been looking for months! definitely a money saver, now don't have to take him to the vet every month for ear cleaning!

This is a great used when your pet is sick. My dog got really sick and she wouldn't eat she we would use the Syringe to help her get some food into her body along with the water, but we get two separate ones so the food and water doesn't mix. I love these they helped out a lot.

A very good option for the sad task of cat force feeding, might have to squeeze the tip back into a circle now and then if your cat is a jaw clamper and squishes it into an oval over many feeds. Put in 55 force feedings with this thing, one full syringe 3 times a day, and brought our cat back from the brink of death due to hepatic lipidosis (fatty liver disease), yay! Hopefully I won't have to use it ever again ha.

I had a few of these for syringe feeding my now recovered kitty over 3 weeks 4-6x a day. Overall they are cheap and effective - helped save my kitties life during a battle with hepatic lipidosis. I had one syringe that was awful and got stuck constantly which made feedings even more stressful. I let Home Essentials Direct know and they immediately sent a replacement which was better. For easier use dab olive oil on the edges of the stopper prior to use and then use that to make the edges of the syringe slick prior to loading food. Will help avoid sticking. Load with a oatmeal or cream of wheat consistency food (add water and microwave a few sec). If you need to feed large amounts, I suggest getting a couple of these and loading 2 with half portions of food. If you need to feed large amounts, I suggest getting a couple of these and loading 2 with half portions of food. You will have better control with smaller amounts of food loaded and if one sticks you have another ready to go. As for longevity, I think they do pretty well with regular use (oil helps keep the stopper from drying out). But i went back to do a final clean a week after I had finished with them and the stopper of one got stuck in the syringe and broke off.

12 January 2020

I had to force-feed a sick pet rabbit, and he nipped the end of this syringe while I was feeding him. His nip caused a piece of plastic to dangle off of the syringe. I plucked off the dangling piece. Thankfully he didn't eat it, because he didn't bite through the piece all the way in one go. This means that the Lixit Feeding Syringe is made of sturdier plastic than some syringes I've used, where such a nip could easily sever plastic completely. But, I've used better feeding syringes in the past and will be looking for better than this one. Unfortunately, I don't know what the better brand I've used was, because it had been given to me by a prior vet. If I can't find a better feeding syringe on the market, though, then I'd use this Lixit one. I just prefer something more durable, where I can use it more than once for a sick pet without plastic bits falling off.

10 December 2018

I use this to force feed my rabbit when he has gut upset. Rabbits can die after 24hrs of not eating and pooping, so it is a good idea to invest in a syringe that is easy to get in their mouth and large enough to fit a feeding of critical care in. Before I tried using a large barrel syringe with a small opening and it was the worst thing I have ever done. Next I tried multiple small barrel syringes that weren't so frustrating, but took forever to fill. After those sessions, I bought this feeding syringe which was the BEST decision I have made for my rabbit.

This is a very long syringe for normal hands to use. If the syringe is filled all the way, it is almost impossible to hold the syringe and operate the plunger with the same hand. My hands are normal sized - I can play the piano easily, but I have difficulty with this syringe. Even after cutting off most of the tip, I have to brace the end against my chest to plunge it until it's about 1/4 empty and I can finally reach the top of the plunger. The lip at the top is too small to help get a good grip on. I use this for feeding small animals, so the tip must be in or near the animal's mouth and the plunger depressed gradually and with reasonable control. I'm very surprised others found it easy to use, though it's sturdy and otherwise good quality. I would much prefer a ... MoreThis is a very long syringe for normal hands to use. This syringe is keeping my aging cat alive. She was diagnosed with early stage 1 kidney disease, then several consecutive stress events plunged her into (probably) liver disease and days of anorexia and bulimia. This feeding syringe plus a mousse-type food thinned with water has helped her bounce back from the edge, and she's still with me 9 weeks later. Occasionally the syringe has gotten stuck while cleaning it and the rubber tip pulls off in the plastic tube, but I've been able to get it out and reattach it without issues. If you have to do regular feedings, you may develop some calluses too, since the edge of the plunger end is a little sharp. Cleaning the syringe is pretty easy. Just be careful after cleaning because the syringe gets more slippery - I've painted my ceiling with liquid catfood at least twice trying to tap down the food and press out air bubbles... No real complaints though. A $6-7 syringe is way better for my budget and my cat's stress levels than an $800 feeding tube surgery. Each sick cat needs something different, but this has worked for mine for now.

8 October 2013

This syringe was recommended to me by a Caturday group friend. I had been using the 4 paws 12cc syringe to feed Prescription a/d to my cat, Lucky, who is suffering from liver problems. That was the only size syringe I could find in my area. Unfortunately, to get enough food in him required multiple fillings of the syringe, which meant fill syringe, feed cat, refill syringe, retrieve cat from under waterbed, feed cat....etc. I can get enough for one feeding in this syringe easily. This syringe operates much more smoothly than the smaller 4 paws syringe. Made the feeding operation less stressful and messy for both of us. We'll see how durable it is. Lucky managed to chomp through the tip of the smaller syringe in seconds. That might also be because I didn't know what ... MoreThis syringe was recommended to me by a Caturday group friend. Added: I used the syringe twice a day for about 2 weeks with no issues, it held up well. Unfortunately, Lucky's condition continued to worsen and there was nothing else to do for him.
