Absolutely excellent, well worth the price. Cooking is my passion and this is the best skillet I have ever owned. I highly recommend the Lodge brand. It is thick and distributes the heat very evenly. Just make certain you do not wash with detergent or use to cook acidic foods such as tomato sauce or vinegar. With eggs, pancakes, steaks or vegetables, it gives a very nice texture and makes the best bacon cornbread, and eggplant, etc. It is non-stick without the dangerous chemicals other nonstick skillets employ. I give this skillet the highest recommendation.

I honestly don't remember why I even wound up buying this 12 inch Lodge cast iron skillet. It might have been for the first time I tried following a recipe to make Southern-style fried chicken at home. I ordered it from Amazon and I don't remember the exact price but I think it was in the $30 range. I had never used cast iron before and quickly learned that it wasn't automatically non-stick despite the fact that the company described it as "pre-seasoned". I've tried several different methods of seasoning it but to this day all of these years later I would never describe it as remotely close to "non-stick". I've tried all sorts of ways to clean it including just wiping it out with paper towels, hand-washing with some dish soap, and I believe I even ran it through the ... MoreI honestly don't remember why I even wound up buying this 12 inch Lodge cast iron skillet. Nothing has helped/hurt with the "seasoning" of the pan. There really doesn't seem to be anything that sticks for very long. (no pun intended) Unless I am cooking a well-marbled steak I *always* add oil to this pan before putting anything else into it. I didn't have much use for this Lodge 12 Inch Cast Iron Skillet when I lived at the house and had regular access to a gas grill in the backyard. These days I am in an apartment so I use this skillet for pan-searing burgers, chicken breasts, steaks, pork chops, etc. at high temperatures to get good color on them. I've done Southern-style corn bread in it along with a few other things. I like that this skillet is so durable. It will last forever and then some. The price is nice. I've just had to learn to accept that I will never get a good seasoning layer in it and cooking eggs in it will have to remain a fantasy. I'm still very happy to have it in my kitchen repertoire, though.

The Lodge 10.25" skillet has remained more or less the same over the past 100+ years with relatively minor changes made. This piece of cookware is not like all the other modern disposable pieces of cookware in that it does require a fair bit of tender love and care. In return, this skillet will likely outlast you and several generations of your progeny. Cast iron is brittle, so it should not be subject to large impact forces or thermal shock. However, it can actually stand up to a lot of abuse. You should not expose this pan to a lot of liquid whilst not in the process of cooking or it will rust. That means that it is not dishwasher safe. Cast iron is also a relatively poor conductor of heat, but the skillet is heavy so it has a lot of thermal mass, which means that ... MoreThe Lodge 10.25" skillet has remained more or less the same over the past 100+ years with relatively minor changes made. This is my second one. They are seasoned and yes, you must re-season after each cleaning. Once you have the steps down it's very easy. I was familiar with them and knew all the old school tricks. They are made of quality material and the workmanship is perfect. This Lodge Pan does everything my grandmas did and that's how I know it is the best quality. Nothing cooks a pork-chop or a flap-jack like a cast-iron skillet. Best of all YOU NEVER HAVE TO REPLACE THEM!

A proper cast iron skillet!
16 August 2023

I'm delighted to recommend this skillet from Lodge, the bottom is smooooth so no scratches on glass topped hobs, even heat so no centre of pan hot spots. It is recommended to rub a little oil all over the pan before first use and pop into a hot oven for an hour. After use clean and repeat process. I keep my cast iron pots 'n pans in the oven on the bottom shelf and leave them in there even when using the upper half of the oven it helps perfect the non-stick seasoned surface. Once the seasoned surface has built up it will only be necessary to bake it on every now and again, however a little oil still needs to be applied after washing.Buy the slip on silicone handle grip for ease of handling.

Great first skillet
18 June 2024

Bought this for my mum for Mother's Day as she's always wanted a cast iron skillet. Is a great skillet for those who haven't used one before. Is so convenient that it is pre-seasoned, although we did season it ourselves too before using.Super fast deliver too. I initially ordered the wrong size but the in-store team that helped swap it to the right size were really helpful.I was tossing up between this one or a Victoria skillet, but am glad I went with Lodge.

Lodge Offers Consistent Quality

I have other Lodge products. It is one of my trusted "for the money" brands. Walmart offers less expensive options, but this skillet is extremely well-made and will last forever. The pre-seasoned surface is even and thick. The pan is very heavy.I did a steak in this thing a couple of days ago. The sear looked like steak came off a hot charcoal grill. The trick is to preheat the pan on medium-high for five minutes and use a high smoke-point oil like avocado.I clean the pan with a combination of salt and baking soda. Never use steel wool.

I have never owned a cast iron skillet, but as a child I remember my dad using one all the time. Now that we have a cabin, I had to try one too. It's amazing! I was careful to read up on how to keep it seasoned it and keep it clean, but after just a short time, I was using it for everything and making amazing-tasting food. We enjoy bacon and eggs and hashbrowns, burgers, chicken breasts, pancakes....I have even baked cornbread in it. I use it on the campfire, on top of the woodstove, in the oven and on the stovetop....and it works on my INDUCTION stovetop too! Why did I ever think it was only for cabins/camping?! I am getting one for our house.....and other cast iron cookware too!
