I wanted something that was most similar to grilling without a barbecue. I use this grill pan on my Dometic Origo 1500 marine alcohol stove, in my DIY Stepvan tiny home on wheels and it couldn't be simpler or more awesome. Healthy and delicious meat meals while traveling simply. We ordered it to a Walmart store along on our travel route, well enough in advance and since they hold the item for up to 7 days, it is easy enough to plan ahead.

This Lodge 10.5" Pre-Seasoned Cast Iron Grill Pan Is a Very Welcome addition to my other 11 pieces of Lodge Cookware (9 cast iron pieces and 2 glass lids) and Lodge Cast Iron Cookbook!! I considered the square cast iron grill pan but then realized that the lid from my 5 qt. Lodge Dutch Oven, the skillet style lid from my Lodge 3 qt. Combo Dutch Oven, and my Lodge tempered glass lid would all fit this round pan!! I daggone near broke my arm patting myself on my back for realizing how versatile and how many different ways I could use this pan besides just grilling a steak or veggies, or making a 'pannini' sandwich. I also like very much that this pan works on probably every cooktop including induction cooktops like the NuWave. Also have no fear using this on your gas, ... MoreThis Lodge 10.5" Pre-Seasoned Cast Iron Grill Pan Is a Very Welcome addition to my other 11 pieces of Lodge Cookware (9 cast iron pieces and 2 glass lids) and Lodge Cast Iron Cookbook!! This is a wonderful product. Food doesn't stick and it cooks up perfectly. Chicken and fish come out delicious and juicy. I'm somewhat new to using cast iron, so there is a bit of a learning curve. If you've never used cast iron before, do a bit of research about using it before you buy. Remember, oil the pan and heat it up until it is very hot! You can turn down the heat later, but the pan must be hot. Also, DO NOT PRESS DOWN on the food and DO NOT MOVE THE FOOD around, otherwise it will stick to the pan. You must let the food cook for a bit, a "crust" will be created and the food will release quickly and easily. After washing the pan, DRY IT IMMEDIATELY. This is a wonderful product and I recommend it.

Before I write my review, I just want to let everyone know, I did smooth my skillets out at home. Meaning it no longer has the factory cooking surface on it, Prior to doing this, I had it for a month and it worked great. I just could not get over the texture of the cooking surface. I then decided to smooth it out using an angle grinder and a flapper wheel. It works just as good with the added benefit of a smoother surface. It took on my seasoning well after I smoothed it and has worked brilliantly since I modified it. Just keep it oiled, keep it seasoned, modifications are optional, but all in all, this is a great product.
This grill pan was bought specifically to go from the stovetop to the oven, which it accomplishes perfectly. I like stripes in my grilled food, so this piece ticks all the boxes. My only complaint is that it is very heavy and I need two hands to pick it up. Otherwise it is perfect
I've grilled vegetables (eggplant, zucchini, bell peppers) and meat (burgers, chicken breast, and steak) on this pan, and everything has turned out amazingly well. The pan has a very even heat distribution (no hot spots), and it retains heat very well. It's also a plus that the pan is already seasoned (no need to pre-season it before using). It's important to follow the instructions for caring for the pan. It can never be soaked in water or put in the dishwasher. Once cleaned it must be dried straight away, and it's suggested not to use soap (I know that sounds crazy, but I use a metal grill brush to clean it and then rinse it under warm water. It gets nice and clean every time). I bought this cast iron grill skillet in August. My husband both 2 strip steaks which I was too lazy to grill. I dug out the skillet, & found a recipe on YOUTUBE from Lodge Skilllet Co. I heated the skillet on medium heat, sprinkled water in it. The water vanished. I put grapeseed oil on the skillet. Seared the steaks each side for 2 minutes. Then put the skillet in the oven at 350 degrees for 4-5 minutes. Took the skillet out of the oven & let the steaks rest for 5 minutes. Those were the best tasting, juiciest, tenderest steaks I have ever tasted. My husband absolutely raved about them To clean the skillet, I ran hot water in the skillet & let it soak while the skillet was hot. I then used a cast iron skillet brush to clean it. I purchased this grille for my husband on fathers day because we are always going to the barbecue area of the community we live in. A friend suggested it after she saw it advertised. So, I decided to give it a try. Last night was our first time using it and we grilled some porkchops. All I can say is this grill is incredible! The markings the grill left on the porkchops were better than the barbecue grill. The heat evenly distributed so it didn't overcook and the flavor was absolutely wonderful. The next night we used it again to cook ribeye steaks, they were the best steaks that we have ever had. I can't wait to use it again. I can already tell it's going to be my favorite cookware. My family is in love with this grille and I'm so glad that I decided to buy it. With a simple seasoning on the room temperature meat, on an oiled grill pan I brown the protein for about five to eight minutes on one side, then turn onto the other side, turn the stove off and pop the grill pan into a pre heated 350 degree oven for about 15 to 25 minutes depending on the volume of protein. Then I pull it out and let it rest for ten minutes on the grill pan on top of the stove. It comes out perfect every time. The pan also catches the drippings. The handles are easy to hold, the grill pan is the perfect weight and also super easy to clean and store. It was thoughtfully designed and almost instantly became one of my new favorites. The woman in the WS store in Oak Brook said she swore by hers. I swear at mine. Have tried steaks, chops and burgers in the thing. As a cooking device, it is completely useless. Everything sticks to it. You cannot truly clean it so it actually smells rank after few days. It overcooks food. If I could figure out how to clean it, I'd return it. Since I can't clean it, its going into the garbage. A complete rip off.
