Good quality. Lid fits tightly around pot. I like that there are legs so that charcoal briquettes can fit nicely underneath the Dutch oven. Handle strong and sturdy.

Absolutely LOVE this thing.

I really wish that I bought the next size up, simply because I wanted to play "Cowboy" and while camping have my cast iron dutch oven hanging from the tri-pod over my camp fire, slow cooking all day long. There are no words to describe other than... "the best beans I have ever had in my life"..... and I mean by leaps and bounds! (A couple of ham hocks in there also helped incredibly.) After re-seasoning this pot my wife could not believe how naturally "non-stick" the cast iron is. She wanted to know why we (society) would have ever moved away from cast iron.... (I guessed because we got conned into a "non-fat" obsession)... they do require some form of "fat" to perform so well. Lodge sets the standard for camp dutch ovens (in my opinion at least) and I have always found them most useful. Having said that they are cast iron and need to be cared for so be prepared to put in a little effort. If you do you will get a lifetime of great food! One of the hardest decisions when choosing an oven is what size to get. I am attaching a video that shows the various sizes and describes them to help in making the decision.

Exceeded expectations
16 April 2020

Have not cooked in it yet, but pleased with the order, and quality of the Dutch oven. Recipe book is very informative, and explains well how to use the oven. Wal-Mart exceeded my expectations. I ordered two different types of Dutch ovens and the one came early, and the other on time. This was especially surprising since the one came a week early during the shutdown. Very pleased.

This is a great item to get if you’re looking to kick your camp/car cooking up a notch. This particular unit is a “camping” oven. You can use it in the kitchen but the little legs do tend to get in the way.If you flip the lid the inside is curved and smooth, so you could theoretically use it as a griddle for bacon and eggs if you prop it up above the coals.I got this one because of its Family + size. You can use it in the kitchen but the little legs do tend to get in the way.If you flip the lid the inside is curved and smooth, so you could theoretically use it as a griddle for bacon and eggs if you prop it up above the coals.I got this one because of its Family + size. It cooks enough food to feed 4-7 people depending on dish and appetite. Lodge has two sizes in this diameter, the regular and deep. I found that the regular (shorter) is optimized for baking. Hence the lid is closer to the top of what you’re cooking to provide more heat from above. This makes it easier to brown. This over (the deep model) is better for soups, stews and other higher volume dishes. Not to say either wouldn’t work, for baking our soups. The regular doesn’t hold as much and this one requires more effort to brown the top of your baked goods.I was able to cook a nice 3lb corn beef with 4lbs of veggies all at once. Then use it to make a nice amount of cornbread so I can personally say it works great, if you know how to use it.Using camping Dutch ovens is tricky because there are so many variables to try and control for. Food, temperature, wind, coals, burn time etc. What I found works best is you just have to pay attention to what is happening to the food and the coals. Check it often, rotate the pot/lid often and make adjustments as needed. I use Kingsford Original Charcoal simply because it’s available everywhere and fairly consistent. I seem to get about 45 minutes of cooking time out of each set of coals. So for longer cook times it takes multiple sets.If you make a change in the heat it takes about 3 minutes before you’ll notice it. Be patient, go slow. You can always cook things faster but you can’t un-burn food. Allow extra time compared to what the recipe says because there is a “warm up” period where the pot is warming up to cooking temperature.Cleaning the pot is its own art. The lodge stuff comes “pre-seasoned” which means it is ok to use it out of the box (rinse first). But that “seasoning” is not the end all be all. With use and care you will make major improvements on it. For the first several times after you use it when you get back home spray it down with vegetable oil and bake it at 450 for an hour. That will help to build up the carbon layer that will give it the less sticky surface properties you desire. But make no mistake your going to do some scrubbing on this sucker over the years, its not going to just clean up with a paper towel.Lodge stuff is good, it’s more or less the gold standard by which other cast iron is judged. Pre-seasoning, good design and a ability to get replacement parts are the reasons I like their stuff. SOME of their stuff is made in USA as well, but not all of it.If you get this do some research on how to cook and care for cast iron. If you take care of it, it will outlive anyone you may come to know in your lifetime. I have two pieces of cast iron handed down through my family from the 1800’s that I cook with today. I don’t expect this Dutch Oven to be any different.

Great Product
2 February 2020

It has been a year since I purchased this so I thought I would write a review after a lot of use. We used it often at home and camping. It is very versatile and was used for making a variety of foods including pizza, biscuits, egg bakes, cinnamon rolls, stews and the list goes on. It cleans up well. Instead of just cooking over a burner or grill; this is a great option to had more variety to your camping experience. It is excellent quality and would recommend.

Nothing to dislike. This is a welcome addition to my outdoor campfire kitchen. I already bought the 12” Lodge Dutch oven (deep) on a visit to the Lodge factory. I added an 8” Dutch oven to cook bread, plus a standard 10” one. This 10” model (deep) is needed for cooking casseroles with coals. It’s a Lodge, made in South Pittsburgh, TN. USA all the way! These beauties really elevate the outdoor cooking experience. I also have the Lodge Dutch oven cook table. Very handy piece of kit.

Lodge Cast iron is the best !
20 April 2023

Recieved this camp dutch oven a few weeks ago. The box that it came was extremely stout. I was immediately impressed at first glance of this beautiful dutch oven. It is very well made & looks like it can hold up to the strongest of cooking tasks. I have not been able to use it yet due to the bad weather we are still having in Southern Idaho. I will be breaking it out once the weather gets better. You cant beat Lodge quality !

LOVE IT!E-Z Clean-up thanks to the preseasoning right out of the box.I use it in my Big Green Egg all the time. Keep the lid slightly cracked to let in some more of the smoky goodness. I've done short ribs, meat loaf, chicken, pork chops, pot roasts and more. Never needs to re-seasoned as long as you follow clean up directions. This is the best accessory any grillmaster can ever get.

Unlike baking or cooking in an oven, your food is surrounded by a heat sink and as long as you don't leave the lid off all the time you won't ruin your baked good by peeking in.I've baked bread, cornbread, cobblers and even cheesecake in my oven. Creating a ring for the lid handle, I use the lid upside down on my camp stove for pancakes and grilling and of course the bottom of the stove serves as a great pot for cooking almost anything else. In other words it can replace most of your cookware if you want it to. Certainly anything other than maybe boiling water. While heavy, it's worth the weight. There's nothing like hot from the oven goodness while camping and baked goods really make an evening special. These ovens are very well made and hold up very well. The inside is well seasoned but of course you're going to have to maintain it as you do with any cast iron. Should you scrape off the seasoning just reseason it... very simple and can be done around the campfire or at home later. If you spend your time poking at a campfire might as well have one of these- it's like poking at a campfire but with deliciousness as the result! Your friends will think you're a genius. And if you're not a great baker this will make you a lot better... it's far easier to get right than doing it at home in a real oven. No, really!
