I have wanted a backlit keyboard for a while now. Rather than a cheap backlit I got this entry level gaming board. No silly rainbows that blink and wave, red only dimmable in five increments. It does have two varying light level effects. Meh.The board has a solid feel with excellent action on the keys. Far better than the typical OEM board. The completely flat surface under the keys should making keeping this board clean a breeze.There are custom settings for many games I'll likely never use. One very useful feature is I was able to use is manually disabling the CAPS lock key. You are able disable any key based on your gaming needs.

This is a review of the Logitech G413 tkl se keyboard. (I Bought mine brand new from Best Buy as a stand-in while I got switches for my main keyboard.) What I was not expecting was:A. It does NOT have hot-swappable capabilities, so your stuck with ONLY ONE type of switch (brown tactile), and are VERY scratchy and are NOT lubricated at all.B. It sounds VERY hollow, even with a shallow frame and aluminum faceplate. Most of the construction is plastic. As well as terrible rattling coming from the stabilizers. C. (I Bought mine brand new from Best Buy as a stand-in while I got switches for my main keyboard.) What I was not expecting was:A. It does NOT have hot-swappable capabilities, so your stuck with ONLY ONE type of switch (brown tactile), and are VERY scratchy and are NOT lubricated at all.B. It sounds VERY hollow, even with a shallow frame and aluminum faceplate. Most of the construction is plastic. As well as terrible rattling coming from the stabilizers. C. The switch response time hovers in the 50ms range and is VERY NOTICABLE when playing any game that has short input windows (Rhythm games, etc.)D. (extension of B) The keycaps feel VERY cheap for "pbt" and remind my of my OEM Dell membrane keyboard from 2009 in quality.G. I paid $80 US for this. I feel utterly disappointed and feel as if 90% of the cost is just from it having the Logitech name. If you want something better for the same price, get a Corsair, Roccat, Steelseries, or even some Chinese ones.H. There are many more that I simply do not have the time to write down at the moment.Those were some of the CONS of the keyboard. Now for some PROS.1. It doesn't need ANY software to use. Which is nice from Logitech2. It's simplistic in design and can work with most aesthetics.3. The led although white only, are bright and haven't gone out yet.4. The lettering don't have any cutouts or odd design choices that would make you believe they were made poorly.5. It's a keyboard, It works.In my conclusion, I simply cannot recommend this keyboard as the flaws it has are too extensive. Though if you are in need for a keyboard and this is your only option, It will definitely last you a while.

Some coworkers are jealous, but no one has yet accused me of creating a distraction with my keyboard's ground-effect lighting + rear spoiler.Areas for Improvement-This board has USB "passthrough," meaning there are 2 USB-A plugs to connect to your system. One drives the lighting & data for the keyboard, and the other is basically a USB extension cable for the one (1) USB-A port on the rear edge. (I use it for a Logi Unifying receiver w/ my MX Anywhere 2S.) ....This board would be even better if it incorporated a bonafide Hub to provide ~3 more ports right at finger's reach.It also lacks dedicated shortcut keys.Who's it For-Us normies who still have to interface their brain with the digital world via touch-typing at 100+ wpm.Who it's Not For-Those who enjoy setting hex-color values for each individual key.

Not the end of the world, but I've been annoyed by it sometimes when I inadvertently unlocked the numeric pad and instead of typing numbers my cursor was just going all over the place on a form I was completing.- No information on what the Fn-F8 key combination did. I had to google about half an hour before finding out that its purpose is to disable the Windows key (between Ctrl and Alt on the left side) for gaming. Logitech decided that it's more important to have a led to indicate this than Num Lock.- Thick and hard to manage cable. DasKeyboard's is the same. I can't imagine why a keyboard needs such a thick cable. I guess designers believe that the target audience of mechanical keyboards feels warm and fuzzy when exposed cables look like a length of paracord able to hold 500 Lbs.
It looks pretty, and worked well at first, but too soon my son began having problems with keys not working. He'd push them and nothing happened. Tried to clean, tried to remove and fix - didn't fix. Not sure how long it lasted but felt it was awfully expensive to stop working so fast. Couldn't have had it much more than a year at best. My mechanical keyboard is 4+ years and works perfectly, in comparison. We both use them extensively, game a lot.

Gross.The problems started a little more than a year in with the ALT key randomly popping off. No problem, easy enough to put back on, but over the months its started happening to more and more keys. Primarily the Alt, Windows and CTRL keys. Upon inspection I noticed the tabs on the underside of the key caps have broken off in the corresponding hole in the switch. Each key cap has 4 thin plastic tabs that go in holes on the switches. They are NOT durable and apparently one or two will break off flush with the holes on the switch so they can't be removed. Even with tweezers. About this time last year I decided to give the keyboard a good cleaning, removed all key caps and washed them in soapy water. It was nice, keyboard felt like new. But when removing the key caps I noticed a majority of the caps have broken tabs on them. Most of the keys on this board feel loose now and can easily be removed. I have to fix the CTRL and ALT keys daily now because they are constantly falling off.Another complaint is that some of the larger keys like the space bar and back space are very clanky sounding. I think it has to do with how the stabilizers are designed. Its not defective, just not designed well.I wish they would have stuck to a more standard mechanical switch like Cherry MX. That way the stems come from the key caps would be thick and sturdy and easily replaced if broken.Its hard to see but in the photo circled in blue are the tabs that break and the hole in the switch the tab broke off in. Its like this on a large number of the keys.

Having owned keyboards for years that are primarly all-plastic construction, I was pleasantly surprised at this keyboard's heft. The aluminum alloy chassis and body cause this G413 to weigh almost 2.5 pounds. Of course, since the keyboard obviously sits on the top of my desk, the weight is not a negative feature, but rather tends to indicate to me the keyboard's solid construction.My specific model is the G413 Carbon which means that it's a very dark gray with red backlit keys - the silver-colored model has white backlit keys. While there are five (5) fixed brightness levels for the backlighting, the red color is itself fixed as well and that's the only color available. I would have preferred a RGB backlight keyboard, but the red color at a medium brightness level is just fine. At this price point, the backlighting should be RGB.The Logitech G413 does not have a palm rest. At this price point, the G413 keyboard should have a detachable palm rest.The connection cable is almost 6 feet long and has a nylon braided cover, making it feel very sturdy and durable. The end of the cable is split into a "Y," terminating into two (2) USB connectors. One connector is for the keyboard itself and the other USB connector is for the passthrough USB 2.0 connector located on the back edge of the keyboard. This keyboard requires two (2) available USB ports if the passthrough USB port is to be used. Yes, you can only plug in the one USB plug making the keyboard operational and not take advantage of the keyboard's USB port. However, at this price point, the passthrough USB connector on the keyboard should be at least USB 3.0 and it should really be USB 3.1.The mechanical keyboard is a dream to type on. You can easily feel the click of the individual keys and with Logitech's reputation for quality, it should last for many, many years. The sound of the click is neither too loud nor distracting. In fact, the sensation of typing on a mechanical keyboard is much different than a membrane keyboard and is vaguely reminiscient of the old IBM Model M keyboards from 30-35 years ago. Since I grew up typing on the Model M keyboards with its buckling spring key technology, this G413 mechanical keyboard is absolutely perfect.Overall, there are three (3) improvements for Logitech to consider on this G413 mechanical keyboard: the backlighting should be RGB, the keyboard's USB port should be 3.0 or 3.1, and the G413 should come with a detachable palm rest. For me, the USB pass-through is not that important, and neither are the programmable macros (I never even downloaded the software for it), but I could see where these features would be good for some. The red back-lighting has 4 levels of brightness, or, it can just be turned off if you desire. The cord is sturdy and secure, especially compared to other mechanical keyboards in this price range.I'm glad I bought it, because now I know that Logitech's home-grown Romer-G tactile switches just can't compete with Cherry's MX tactile switches if you are truly wanting a tactile mechanical keyboard. If Logitech would put out another version of this keyboard with either Cherry Blue or Green switches, I'd probably buy it without hesitation. If you aren't as hung up on the tactile aspect as I am, this might even qualify as a 4 or 5-star keyboard. But for me, the best it gets is 3 stars.
